a bunch of guys on the DOW modding forums making a mod and part of the backstory is DA's allying with the tau, so the Dark Angels can capture a member of the Fallen would this ever concievably happen or would the Dark Angels rather fight the force the fallen is behind and the Tau? (reference would be handy

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

The Dark Angels are completely devoted to the emperor ( not on the black templar level I dont think but still..) And while I know the Imperium and the Tau do work together ocasionally, its usually just imperial guard or the inquisition. I dont think any space marine chapter, much less the Dark angels would ally themselves with xenos (bar the ocasional random eldar), they would just kill both the fallen and the Tau.

I may look for a reference later but for now just think on this, the DA's consider themselves unforgiven already because of the fallen, why would they risk even more dishonor by allying with Xenos? It just doesnt sound like a DA thing to do.

I don't know. The DA primary mission is to hunt down the fallen. If they could use an Alien ally to help them, I almost could see them doing that. It would be done on a small level, like using Kroot to help them scout or coming to the aid of the Tau in a fight against the fallen, but I could see it.

More likely is the fallen would ally with the Tau to protect themselves from the DA.

I agree on both points. The Dark Angels do have a Xenos connection already though (the Watchers in the Dark), though this seems to have been downplayed in the 4th edition Codex.

I don't think that the Dark Angels would never ally with Tau, but I think that it would have to be a highly exceptional situation.

My vote is solidly in the "cleanse and purify" realm where the DA would go ape and kill everything. I mean, these guys do nothing except for hunting down the fallen, so when one or two are found the entire chapter suits up and goes to kick some fallen butt.

the spire of angels

as beef said-no, hell  no,  and absolutely not

the DAs will not even ally with imperial forces that have loyalist abberations like ratlings and ogryn, a pure xeno force is straight out.

One of my favorite pieces of 40k fiction was about a DA squad fighting across a battlefield to reinforce an IG platoon. When they got to the IG platoon, they found an IG Lt. that was in command of an Ogryn squad. The DA sgt simply said that they would not help mutants and left the position, allowing the IG Ogyrn to be overrun.

At the most, they'd use the xenos to complete the objective, then turn and crush the scum before leaving... or pull out suddenly, return to their fleet, and virus-bomb both the xenos and the forces that were protecting the Fallen.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

I think that the DA would never align themselves with the tau, or any other xenos in order to hunt the fallen. In that point they maybe even more fanatical then the templars.

I reject your reality, and substitute my own

My vote is solidly in the no column. I think they would destroy any xeno even attempting to contact them.

If it makes sense, then it's not RAW.

Well as 2 people have pointed out using fluff that it wouldn't happen....I'll reitereate. Dark Angels are xenophobes and will not work w/ Xenos. The "watchers" they had earlier was very special and only 1 Character had it. Very little was ever discussed w/ the watches and they have basically been removed from the new fluff

You flatter me. But really, I'm just an ordinary guy. I put my pants on the same way anybody else does: I put a gun to the head of my manservant and bark Russian military commands at him until the poor blighter either figures it out or watches his brains exit his forehead.

In my happy place, I'm in my happy place...

Much more likely and in character with both races would be the DA aren't currently concerned with the Tau but rather with the Fallen. The whole I won't shoot you if you don't get in my way aspect of things. The water caste Tau negotiators believe that they have made an agreement while the DA don't.

It would be more like the DA know that to capture the fallen they have to wait a bit for the tau to help level the playing field and take some tau casualties in turn and then take the fallen and leave the Tau to fend for themselves against an opponent they though they would have DA assistance with.
