So I clicked the link for the survey, because they said that my opinion was important. 1st question, Male 2nd question, Your age in whole numbers: 39 Next screen said Thank you for your participation. I guess this old-fart's opinion is not important, anyone else run into this?

39? I'm surprised you are able to use the internet, let alone see the monitor. Of course your opinion doesn't matter. 18-30 onry please kthnxbai. I haven't run into it, but I'm not surprised, though the point of the survey may to try and find out how many people will take an online survey or what the mean age of THQ/GW's fanbase is (that will do online surveys).

I'm 33 - it let me continue, until the screen after asking if anyone in my family is in advertising - i said yes, it shut me down next screen.
heh - that modifies your statistics a bit, to bottleneck them like that. What's that saying? There are three types of lies: Lies, D%#@ lies, and statistics

21. You guys got off easy. I originally assumed I was going to be entered into some sort of sweepstakes since survey crap is too much of a bother unless you get the potential promise of a prize. Anyway, I hopefully put in a few answers that throws off the curve. And seeing how they're not giving an incentive to even do the survey, my opinion counts. Whoo.

After the age discrimination I suffered I feel morally obligated to login to the survey as a 14 year old and mess with it, too.

Wow... My job is to create surveys... and discriminators like those are terrible. They want to exclude half the population from the survey? Nothing like ignoring a potential slice of consumers. I hope someone wasn't actually paid to generate this. Let's see... apparently 34 is the cutoff. Apparently they don't want to see how old people are who play their games, and thus cannot cater to them. Amazing.

Made some inquiries. This survey had next to nothing to do with GW, and was put together by THQ. I blame THQ for being agists

Well you could start by telling the truth! Everybody knows girls don't play these games. But seriously. They're probably assuming the majority of people checking "Female" are just trying to screw up their results. So basically the first question should be read as: "Are you just f**king with us?"

If they actually showed respect and catered towards the veteran gamers who introduce new players into the hobby and spend $10,000+ each, they might be doing a whole lot better.

I really think gamer girls are the ones getting totally screwed by stuff like this. While gaming in general is male dominated, I know a lot of women who are into gaming. The silly thing is that almost no one caters to them. I was discussing miniatures with one of them recently and she was going on a tirade about how difficult it was to find a fantasy themed miniature of a woman in armor (and by armor, she meant real armor rather than the chain mail / plate bikini). And she?s right. Next time you are in a place that sells miniatures, look for one. If you find one, look for another. After 2 (if you can find 2 in the first place) it starts to get really hard.
Ignoring the female opinion can cut you out of a lot of business. While listening to it and possibly incorporating a few ideas can net you a whole new audience. Look at ?The Sims?. That game has/had the biggest female following of any game I?ve ever seen. It also had quite a large male following (although I think most of the guys I knew that played it lost interest faster than the women, but still). I think one of the main reasons there are not more women who are into gaming is simply the lack of selection for things that appeal to them. Most women I know who are not ?gamers? but who occasionally play video games, have one or two games that they like and they stick to those. Why do they stick to those rather than seek out the wealth that the gaming industry has to offer? I?m willing to bet its simply that most of the games out there are just don?t appeal to them and they know that effort put into finding a new game is, more likely than not, just going to be a waste.
So while there is a lot of money to be made from making games that guys are going to like, I think that toning them to be a bit more palatable to women will pay big dividends in the end. If you want those dividends, then you are going to need to know what the women want.

And the new rule in 40k: the negotiate stat...
Seriously, The Sims was nice and all, but I wasn't a game goddammit! I had it "played through" in no time. Me, my father and my brother were Superheroes, Manager and Super chef, our wives were all superhot, we lived forever and had super successfull kids, my House was a Castle and I didn't know what to do anymore.
But I agree with the steel bikini issue. I mean, seriously, how cool was Alyx in Half Life 2. Just an "ordinary" gal without atomic boobs and deadly flip kicks to boot. Go natural!
