Thanks Ice. Not mine. Thing 1 built it for a friend... I've just got it until he gets back from vacation. Nice background for a photo though.

Got my first video edited... crudely. I can't make the video editor do much more than clip and add transitions between segments. And then the video disappeared while I was trying to export it. Well, back to the drawing board...

Gits,
I'm interested in you more than the specific models that you are painting. In a less weird (maybe) way to say it... I value the relationship that I have built with you over the last 400 pages of this blog (and the hundreds of other pages as well).
Keep doing with is interesting to you.

I may have missed it, and if so feel free to berate me so, but is your army official Bushido models? If so, I may have to give this game a second look. If not, I may have to find where you got those models for a DnD game I'm in

Either way, the boards, the armies, and the games look fun as hell.

Thank you Anpu, I value it as well. To be honest, this blog is about far more than the hobby... it's like getting together with friends. When I need to talk, I come here.

I'm glad you've found it useful mt. It's been a real pleasure sharing this new system with everyone.

Indeed Alf, they are. I'm nowhere near as comfortable with Bushido as 40k, so it's unlikely I'll be doing much in the way of conversions. Besides, with so few models on the table the need for doing conversions to keep things interesting is far less.

Archer wrote:I am happy to see anything you post. I love seeing other games systems as I am somewhat invested in GW and personally am not going to branch out myself like I get to see on other peoples blogs, so I really enjoy the variety.

Glad to hear that Archer as I am enjoying doing something new. I was where you are two months ago. A friend had been asking me to try Bushido but I'd been been balking at the idea because (I quote myself), "...the last thing I need is *another* war game... I can't paint all the figures I have already..." However I tried the game at Adepticon and fell in love with the aesthetic, the game play and the models. Keep in mind my fully painted faction (at least all the models I'm interested in getting) will come to a grand total of 14 models. I'll have far more buildings and terrain pieces than I will actual figures for the game!

Well, I haven't been posting... what have I been up to?

Trying to edit my very first YouTube video, that's what. As an old fart who's never taken (much less edited) a video before in his life... it's been a bit of a struggle. Took me a lot of trial and error to find the right video editing software and my understanding of it is still very rudimentary. That being said... the video is edited, rendered and as I type this being uploaded to my YouTube channel. It is hopelessly crude in comparison to the slick products were all used to seeing on popular battle report channels, but it honestly the best I could do. They will get better, I promise.

I learned a lot from the process and just about every aspect of the battle report needs changing. Camera angle, light, my voice modulation (I talk too loud and have a tendency to try to fill space with random noises). But, my goal is simple, to make each one a little better than the last. As the saying goes... "there's no where to go from here but up".

It's a Bushido report. Lasts about an hour from a static camera at the side of the board. You can't see a lot of the minis unfortunately, but this will change before the next run. I also want to do some shots in-between turns showing close-ups of the models among the terrain to emphasize the cinematic aspect of the game.

There will be 40k reports too, but this seemed a far simpler starting project. I'll drop a note when it's live.

Hmmm.... summary of projects.

40k:

A lot of the 40k projects will revolve around trying to finish up either half-painted figures or nailing down the final few elements of particular armies. On the short list are...

Mantis Warriors: Airbrushed Mk-1 land raider and predator need to be finished.
Halloween Army/Chaos: This army is in a shambles structurally given the new rule set, however I've got a partially painted Bloodthirster w/ great axe that needs to be finished. Also snagged a small unit of Brimstones I'd like to get painted up.
AdMech: I've got a unit of 10 priests w/ staves primed and ready to go. Two Kastellan robots and at least two of my 4 mini-knights are also high up on the list.
Orks: Meh, whenever I get to them. We'll see what the codex brings. HOWEVER... I do want to finish the purple evil minion killa kan.
Miscellanious: Have two wyrdvane psychers primed and ready to go (just for fun) and a cucumber-head assassin... which I actually plan on painting with a cucumber for a head.
Iyanden wraith army: Still in boxes... may stay that way forever.

30k:

If GW sticks to the 7th edition rule set, I probably won't play Heresy again.

Emperor's Children: I would love to keep these guys as a lot of thought and effort went into them. I'm hoping I can cross them over to 40k if a Slaanesh dex ever comes out. If not... they may be on the chopping block (not that I'd get much for them given that no one is playing 30k anymore). I any case I don't see the EC as being a priority for painting.

Mechanicum: In boxes... Might meet the same fate as the Iyanden above.

BMG:

I might force myself to paint the last few ships I've got just so that I can say I'm done... even though I doubt I'll play the game again. Gives me something interesting to do when I hit the 40k doldrums anyway.

Bushido:

So yes... this is the "new hotness" in my gaming life. It's also going to be a very short-lived hotness as I figure in about 3 or 4 weeks at most I'll have all the figures and terrain that I both need and want finished. Now, I'll continue gaming and other things (see below)... but as far as taking up a lot of painting time... this one is fairly limited.

No question I'm trying to take a leadership role locally. Our local Bushido rep and I are teaming up to try and increase the visibility and participation in the game in here abouts. I'm good at whipping up the crowds... he's good at... well pretty much everything else! As a team we should be very effective and with my friend Tyler's help I'm hoping we can actually form a viable local community.

Social Media:

Well, you guys know about my struggling efforts at making a war games related YouTube channel. I think I'd enjoy that if I can get the technology to work. I've gotten to know a couple of the big guys reasonably well and know that once you start getting popular... maintaining the YouTube channel becomes your hobby... war gaming is just the thing you do to provide content. I don't think I want to go that route... even on the slim chance that my efforts are popular enough to get me there. Also it becomes a money grab... because you need the money to hire other people to do the things you can't do anymore because you're spending all of your time on your YouTube content. *shrug*

My current plans for the channel are pretty simple... 40k and Bushido battle reports and probably walk-arounds from major events... well... the ONE major event I attend... Adepticon. I've read over and over that contributions on YouTube need to be very consistent... even if they aren't too frequent. In that way it's just like DakkaDakka. There's a reason this blog has what... 1.4 million views? It's darn sure not the quality of my painting. So I'm shooting for one post/battle report per week. That should maintain the channel and not completely take away all of my hobbying time. I will be trying to carve out a niche with the Bushido reports as there's no one out there doing them with any regularity. Ash from GMG did a series that were fantastic... but he's moved on to other things so there's a gap that perhaps I can fill. What you won't see... tactical videos, codex reviews, my face (not very often anyway).

I've also been asked to at least occasionally take part in a local Bushido pod-cast (once it's back up and running). Might be a grand total of six people who'll listen to it... but anything that helps to pull the group together and give us a cohesive identity I'm all in favor of.

Obviously my posts in DakkaDakka should continue unabated. Have been trying to provide good content on a more regular basis.

Terrain:

Don't get me started. It's too depressing and I own sharp knives...

I guess that's it Brian. You now know what I know...

Second battle report is up on YouTube. This is very different from the last. Just turn summaries, some close-up pics, background music, voice overs, etc.. Lots of playing and experimenting. I think the final version will lie somewhere in-between. This is only 5 minutes so if you have any inclination you can pop over and check it out. Thanks!

PS: I've gotta find some kind of video ap that has video stabilization. I swore my old S7 had it but I can't find it on my S8.

Thanks graven. This is a good example of why I won't be filming many battle reports at my local FLGS. It's always filled with foul-mouthed children or very immature "adults" playing MTG. Makes the background noise very vulgar and not child-friendly... which I'd like to keep my videos if at all possible (next generation and all that).

I did figure out the stabilization thing. Had another camera setting wrong that blocked it out.

I can confidently say that there is zero chance of that happening.

Supply Drop!

Probably the last big one for a while. I have in my mind doing a water table focused around a large building like an inn and a bunch of docks & small fishing boats. However I haven't found the right boats yet and don't want to start getting things for it (save the few docks you see here) until all the rest of my terrain is built *and* painted. I've really been looking forward to that temple bell as it will complete my temple table in grand style!

There will be a mini batrep coming soon and another YouTube video from that same game. This third attempt should be better than either of the first two.

Lovely looking supply drop.

Really enjoyed the second video This coming from a non-gamer, so while interesting to see some of the game mechanics, the first one really doesn't have me as an audience in mind.

I think the key to this sort of thing is finding your style of video, and I feel the second plays more into your sense of the gaming experience - the look and feel of the board, the way the game flows etc. As you said, somewhere between the two would be a good mix of showcasing the gameplay itself along with the 'experience' of the game.

You know mt, in the end I may up specifically doing different types of videos to appeal to different types of people. I can see doing the "game play" videos to appeal to the more tactical minded or people who are just getting interested in the game & need to see how it's played. I can also see the "narrative" style being enjoyed by more casual viewers or those familiar with the game but who don't have an hour or more to watch a full, game play video.

In either case... everything is in flux at this point so we'll see where it all goes. For the nonce... the videos will more closely resemble the second version. I need to improve my filming set up if I'm going to do more of the full, game play videos.

Got the footage for another video last night. This one was pretty funny. My opponent had some great, biting comments about my army and my status as a human appendage...

Ouch. My thing 1 was supposed to come home after graduating college, got an apartment instead. I had no idea that would wrack me in the nards like it has and I'm only just now realizing that. I'll have the rest of my existential midlife crisis on my own, but thanks for being the catalyst of realization (albeit unintentional).

Bushido- it's wicked cool. I've not played it but I'm enjoying your experience. The models are interesting and I always enjoy whatever you are doing.

Speaking as a fellow modeler that does what he wants and has low thread traffic, my official opinion on it is "feh". The people that dig what you are doing will comment and come back. The people that do not dig what you are doing won't. You're an excellent artist and update your legendary thread frequently. It's a lull right now but you know it'll explode again when you pick up something with more mass appeal.

I guess right now is when you find out who your Dakka buds are.

Loving the new board set up , is there a scenario that fits it? It seams like it really limits movement, but that could all be a clever Tengu plan .
