Shuriken catapults keep their name.

Shuriken rifles seem to be a new type of weapon for the Corsairs, probably replacing their old lasblasters.

Wraithcannon and shuriken cannon are also listed, they also get few basic dark eldar gadgets, overall, I must express that I expect a greater novelty from them.

Can't believe people are still discussing reaper's heads.

Reaper heads look like jack o lanterns to me, but I think can be rescued with some putty and shading.

Avatar’s beam attack seems like it could and should be devastating in the right situation.

Banshees… mine got crushed in shipping about ten years ago. Lost quite a few to busted ankles. Looking forward to painting some noobs.

Because it looks cool. In 40k, that trumps realistic combat moves.

I personally don’t really care either way-they look fine, but not super inspired. But don’t come to 40k for realism-you won’t get it.

Well, that's the thing. For a lot of people, it doesn't look cool, it looks very stupid.

Yeah, it's to taste-but saying "It's not realistic" doesn't mean a damn thing, given 40k as a whole.

Not only that but soldiers shaving their heads is like an extremely modern concept.

For most of history there was no regulation about hair in most armies, or warrior cultures trought the ages. And the truth is, in the middle of a fight, if you are trying to grab an enemy by the small portion of hair that shows under the helmet or chainmail you are gonna get your hand chopped off. And having it not impede your vision is just extremely easy.
Helmets with all kind of decorative plumes and sizes and pelts have been in use for all of human story even well into blackpowder and modern era until basically 120 years ago so is quite pedantic to call unrealistic for warhammer units, basically fantasy in space, to have helmets inspired by napoleonic era or medieval or ancient era.

You tell me whats the practical reason for all those tall hats with dangling bits and plumes, for example, and this is just one random example of literally thousands:

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Could throw us another curve ball.

We all expected Shining Spears last week and then boom, Dark Reapers. Now we're expecting the the Avatar, so this week could be Maugan Ra (following up on last week) or the new Warlock.

I really hope the new Avatar model is smaller than the FW one. It certainly needs to be bigger than the current model, but the FW model was always too big IMO.

And with those stats, I could easily see it being Primarch sized. Bigger than G-man for sure, but no where near as big as Magnus or Morty.

I want it to be Bloodthirster sized, but I'm expecting it to be Be'lakor sized (for a Mega-Gargant price tag!).

Are you new to 40k? Every version of the avatar had a topknot. Abaddon has one, as do Ragnar, Commander Shadowson, Lelith and many others. There are even some Ork topknots.
Most of the topknotted characters were originally designed by Jes Goodwin so if you want to blame someone, blame him.

Imagine suspending disbelief for the dying shard of an ancient war god with a magic sword and summoned by ritual sacrifice, only to have it ruined by his haircut.

Since most of those sculpts are rather old I am going to assume that topknot hair was simply easier to sculpt back in those time and they sticked with the design.

I've made my thoughts on topknots in 40k very clear, but opposing them because they're "unrealistic" is just silly.

We're dealing with a setting in which at least three separate cultures have decided it's a good idea for their stealth troops to wear stop sign-red armor while fighting, and have suffered no major consequences for this decision. The existential danger of someone pulling a soldier's hair mid-combat like they're back in elementary school (instead of, you know, shooting them) is close to a moot point.
