I'm cool with people liking them, I just don't want to be handicapped by not taking them. Part of this hobby is building/painting models I like. And if I can get away fielding van saar they way they have been, plus the new tech champs i'll be just fine. I always saw VS as being the most serious minded and militarized of the 6 house gangs. And these seem a bit cartoonish and at odds with that.

Wouldn't be surprised if Cawdor and Delaque ended up with the best of the new kits though. It's not like the bar has been set very high. Cawdor will be interesting cause they could go redemptionist, or do the sisters of battle inspired branch of the faction. Since the current gangers seem to take influence from the custodes.

BS2+ on leaders and champions is still one of the strongest gang features in Necromunda (it's only really outdone by genesmithing abuse and Corpse Grinders when they fight on an amenable board). I'm sure Van Saar will be fine.

Guessing (somewhat wildly) based on the models, I don't think the hoverboarders look like a strong choice. They seem like a melee unit, with the pistol/shield combo. The hoverboards probably give a ramming bonus on charging or something like that. Unless they have interesting weapon choices not represented on the sprue, I doubt they'll be particularly effective. Movement is only good when you have something that can kill when it arrives at its destination, and WS4+ younglings with defensive weapons and mid-tier sidearms aren't really that. They might be a decent tarpit unit if they're fast and get an improved save between the shield/hoverboard.

Of course my predictions could be totally wrong, and maybe the hoverboards do strength 5 AP -1 large template blasts when they ram somebody.

I liked it better when the idea of one gang having better tech was that their flak armor was new instead of a 5th generation hand-me-down.

It's hard to imagine what the superior tech of a spyrer rig is supposed to be like these days. They'll probably need to be walking around in Terminator armor with an Assault cannon, Cylone launcher, and powerfist with auxiliary grenade launcher just to get a second glance. Maybe throw in a displacer field, combat drugs, a vortex grenade, and cameleoline just to be sure.

Spyrer gear already had some of that including force fields, cameoline and combat drugs. Plus the suits grew more effective as part of the reward for successful kills.

Good thing those rich kids weren’t flying around big empty domes of the underhive...

But ya, Van Saar seems to be leaning heavily into the Spyrer shtick.

There are also Sump Seas and similar to surf across in the Hive - there is alot of varied terrain. It might have been a thing in the upper Hive for a bit and now the rich have lost interest - lots of possibilities.

For the little my 2 cents are worth, you can pencil me down for the side that is underwhelmed with the new Van Saar (and Escher) plastic kits. Those are my two gangs, so I had been looking forward to them.

To be fair, I do like the look and stance of the Escher Wyld Runners, but not sure bows are what I want to see Necromunda. I also like those Neotek juves, just not the hoverboards.

It's the Archeoteks (waaayy too static of a pose), the Death Maidens and the Phelynx that look blah. I thought Goliath's and Orlock's new kits looked much better.

I think for Escher bows fit the themes very well. They are a chemical force with a lot of basic weapons in dominance in their forces. So many of them are underhivers who won't have reliable access to other kinds of weapon.

They also offer a silent stealth weapon for forces that might not have access to more reliable and heavy duty silencing technology for more advanced weapons; esp for the juves who are not at the top of their game in an Escher force.

They're going to have to make up for it with a well written book otherwise I might have to switch gangs. That's how bad this is looking for me.

There are no well written books in Necromunda

The Cawdor and Delaque clans get the “House of…” treatment and we’ll be seeing some of the Necromunda characters that already have awesome artwork make their debuts as models. So we might be seeing this Master Nautican in the underhive before long – that will be especially helpful for anyone who wants to get a nice cool glass of water in the underhive.*

Indeed it is! It's also the female Orlock Gangers and something we'd seen shown off for Cawdor awhile back too.

Likelihood is that they're FW pieces but also potentially plastics.

Not happy that I have to wait until Q3 for the book for the one gang that I play. Guess it is what it is.

So if Van Saar aren't the Q1 slot... that means a pre christmas release window?

Do their quarters run Jan to Dec, or is it more like seasons?
I can’t remember how the releases fell this year?
When was the Goliath book?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Though having said that. Weren’t Van Saar always Q4 in the 2020 roadmap, so it would have seemed likely anyway?

I always thought it was December anyway, but not sure..

This year is all messed up due to their three or so month shut down (I think it was three months?).

House of Artifice has always been billed as “Q4 2020”.

Sure, Escher and Orlock in particular feel like they were released in quick succession, but we might be seeing things returning to normal, and Van Saar releasing as originally planned?

In the ‘new roadmap’ after the shutdown, Orlocks were billed as Q4, and Van Saar just said ‘Coming Soon’.

Those Van Sarrs... just... wow.

Not much of a selection at all. The most underwhelming gang yet.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

And then once Delaque's done they will, presumably, go back to the start and give us Goliaths V5.0, right?

They might. I mean, I’m genuinely not ruling it out.

But I reckon we might see new gangs and/or environments explored.

GW has been teasing the guilders for ages now, ever since they started. I'd figure once the books are out for the core gangs as we have now, we will start to see the guilds. Especially as they are mentioned a lot in the books. I'd expect that content to be promoted before adding yet more houses since right now multiple houses have guild alliances that they can't use.

Heck they still have models outstanding like the huge beasty for Escher

They've had models outstanding almost since the game's first release. Didn't stop them from redoing all the gangs. Twice. Three times in some cases.

True, but that's a bit like AoS. Necromunda started as 1 concept; changed and then changed again. Partly, from what I can tell, in response to really high sales volume. Basically GW went from "specialist side game" to "main game" attitude quite quickly; but it has resulted in a bit of a mess.

I think they are on a home run now though with a more long term plan setup for it simply because of the nature of the releases we are now getting. I'd at least expect to no see another "army book" for any faction until a new edition of the core rules. Though of course GW might well throw a lot of expansion rule packs in

Gang extra is a cool idea but they manage to make it as uninteresting as possible with limited weapon choice and meh bits.

With new gangs they have to put a bit more effort into it and make new sculpts.

Do you ever stop making excuses for them? And I'm not just talking about this thread either.

Necromunda is a mess, and has performed like a game stuck in Early Access on Steam since it first came out. Lurching from one new patch to another, with them treading the same ground over and over again without ever moving forward that much (we got Corpse Grinders and Ogryn Slave gangs, and everything else 3-4 times over). We're still missing a bucketload of miniatures for the special characters, and we've yet to hear a whiff of info on anything beyond the 6 core gangs.

If this because, as you say, a change of ideas due to large sales, then they still haven't managed to get it together.

Personally the parts I enjoyed most about the old Necromunda were the Outcast gangs, the Ratskins, Redemptionists, Muties, and Spyrers. Can't help feeling that GW is missing a trick not bringing these back, they would sell far better than these gang updates for another whole year.

Yeah I loved the Spyrers and the Redemptionists. They'd absolutely sell like hotcakes, bit of a headscratcher that they're retreading retreading the same gangs multiple times over, I don't find any of the supposition as to why convincing, whether it be from the apologists or the conspiracy theorists. Maybe some sort of bottleneck at the physical design phase? That's all I can think of really.

Redemptionists would also arguably have the most 40k compatibilty value as Ecclesiarchy/Chaos cult units.

Reds and Ratskins are the too most likely things to never see the light of day again, unfortunately.

I so desperately want to be wrong about this, but after GW decided to change the Cawdor Executioner guy, I just cannot see the Reds coming back.

And Ratskins? Yeah. Good luck there.

So Q4, new box with a new "edition" in ash wastes, with nomads vs scavvy or redemptionists.

My bet
