Earth sky NMM is very tricky, but there are some good examples in the gallery (see below). I'd try toning down the earth tones though, seem a bit harsh atm.

perhaps more grey than brown? i did some research from this site http://www.elfwood.com/farp/theart/williamreflection/Reflective1.htm

But perhaps i should tone it down some. Ill use the other leg to make some more tests

Those Drop Pod doors look fantastic! How were they done, exactly?

Thanks popsicle! They were airbrushed using a zenithel lighting technique and masking.

WM, Another comment about Sky-Earth NMM, it really depends on what the chrome is reflecting, the left leg on the marine i painted would show a reflection of dirt/mountain range. Where as the image you displayed would reflect a more of a pavement/industrial world. I will try both though to see which i like better. Greys are easier to work with than browns anyway

True point, but I think the more subtle SENMM works a bit better. The bolder colors seem to take me out of it a bit more.

There's a really good example on GWs site today as well.

Just a thought on the chrome side, if you had a terminator squad with some chrome armour plates would some of the terminators reflect on each others armour.

Sounds good but would be a nightmare from a painting perspective I expect.

Haha that is a cool idea, but very improbable, especially since they wont stay in the same formation throughout the battle, also i will only be painting their left arm this way, not their whole suit of armor.

I'm just worried it doesnt fit the scheme, too shiny for the 41st millennium, where as a grungy silver like my iron warriors seems better suited. I'm on the fence on how i want these guys done up

OK, attempt number two, sorry for the poor photography. It looks better in person. I think i almost nailed it this time around, i think i gotta smooth out where the grey meets the white and take some more time with the blending. A lot of the blending of colors got washed out in the photo unfortunately so it will be tough to judge. I believe i will end up painting the whole model chrome SENMM to get a better handle on it and also it will be easier to see how it looks altogether. Let me know what you think though. C&C encouraged!

I think its really getting there as you say a bit more work on the blending and it will be looking really nice, I think one other thing comparing it to the jugger on the GW site is the gloss adds an extra touch to the paint job giving it a bit more of a shine.

Yeah i was looking at that as my reference while i was working, didnt think about a gloss varnish. Good call. I will have to pick some up

So another small WIP update on my chrome marine. Really enjoying the experience, and happy with how it's coming out. Finished another malifaux mini and continuing on others. Will try to get some pics up of that. Hopefully i will be investing on a better camera and try to also build myself a lightbox. Need to up my photo skills.

I like that one much more. Needs a bit more white in the sky.

looks like a huge step forward in terms of the chrome effect compared to the first attempt.

I'm pretty sure as time goes on and you continue to paint that effect the overall look will be superb!

Thanks for the lovin'

Got some WIP shots of the Malifaux crew. Coming along nicely. Im gonna throw some more paint on the kid. The dog is pretty much done, just gotta get his base painted. I also have a very blurry and very early WIP shot of a deathwatch terminator. Still alot of work to do with the GS.

Also below you will find some better pics of my SW greyhunter. Now that I'm not going to adepticon not sure what im gonna do with the battleforce I have. Thinking of finishing painting/modeling it and maybe selling it?

Chrono,
Just in case you wanted some more reference for the reflective NMM:
http://www.chestofcolors.com/cofc-postnuke/index.php?full=1&set_albumName=40k&id=wolfpriest&name=gallery&include=view_photo.php

There's a heap of awesome mini's in Chestofcolors's Gallery, but I thought this guy is a good example of what you're attempting.

Update on the shields. apparently my silicone is no good, and made a gooey mess. I'm going to use some instant mold tonight and make some greenstuff copies.

Really digging a lot of your stuff. I think you could have spent a little more time on the land raiders freehand but it was for sale so I understand how that goes. The drop pod is looking amazing I'll be waiting to see it complete. Keep it up.

Good to hear WM (not that your silicone bombed, but that there's progress )

Thanks for the tip Moltar, i'll try to implement that. Its a good reference.

@ littleboyblues: Thanks! I do agree, compared to the freehand on the drop pod and the Zeus on the cloak, the land raider freehands on the sides are not my best work. But the client was more than pleasedm so it works out. My deathwatch army, if i decide to run land raiders, will have some sweet freehands. I'm really excited about that project

Chrono, your work is excellent, i'm loving looking through your thread, my fave's are the drop pod doors and nix the bull terrier, but i'm damn impressed by your progress with the chrome marine, that's a brave man who tackles that technique and you're doing a fine job! keep pushing the boundaries!

Thanks a lot nerdfest. I'm in the process of repainting the drop pod, It's gonna be an ultramarine chapter deathwatch drop pod for the ven dread i will have in the army. The chrome marine is a fun little project, but i'm gonna have to shelf him for a bit. Idk if i will be using that technique on my deathwatch, too shiny. I want them to be gritty and tough looking.

Just a small update. I'm pushing myself with GS. No chance of getting better without trying. I have a lot of respect for people that are excellent with GS. I'm struggling with keeping it smooth. Up close there's little bumps and creases, but almost unnoticeable from tabletop view, so I am ok with the turnout. Still a WIP. The top view shot of the termie is a bit blurry, but I'm working on sculpting the inquisitor logo on him. C&C welcomed here.

Also the finished shot of the bulldog. Enjoy!

GAHHH my airbrush is on the fritz. I'm probably gonna need to replace it. It's stopped pulling paint through. Nothings clogged. I don't get it. It is older than I am though, so it had a good life. Anyone know anything about the Badger 150? Thats the one i'm thinking of getting. I really want the dual action, plus Michaels carries them and i have a 40% coupon.

@nerdfest09 - Thanks dood. It's a good philosophy to live by. And your words are encouraging. Glad i can inspire you!

With working the green stuff I had similar frustrations, I found two things out that really help;

1st get your self some "colour shapers" they are like paint brushes but with rubber/silicone heads on them and they come in various stiffnesses, I got the white heads and they work well with green stuff. I got a pack of 5 or 6 with various different shaped tips on them they are great and really help with working the green stuff.

2nd let the green stuff cure for a bit like half an hour and then use plenty of water (lots of people use spit/saliva also) and keep working the green stuff loads until you get a really clean smooth finish to it.

Another thing to try is mixing it in different proportions I can't remember which way round it is but less of one and more of the other will effect how hard it sets.

The loin cloth looks great by the way!
