Tau still are quite powerful with the right list and deployment. The cost of their transports and the lack of anti-tank weapons for their troop choices does somewhat hold them back in 5th ed.

I picked Empire because of its good model support, but also because of a random explosion of inspiration.

I started back when you got Marines and Dark Eldar in the starter pack. Dark Eldar were awesome, truly evil compared to the grey-area most everyone else inhabited.

Started out with the Tyranids, as i've been a fan of the Alien movies, ever since i watched the first movie (was around 6 or 7 years old ), and they came the closest.

- Recently, i've developed a taste for the Eldars aswell. I just like their arrogant, yet refined and elegant appearences and characteristics.
- Oh, and the pointy ears just makes me, well... I like Eldars!

I chose BA after about 2 years of garbage playing DA. I figured out 2 things during that time: 1) Too many kids read the fluff and decide to play smurfs due to being 'The Greatest Chapter' and 2) Shooting armies get little done and Assault armies generally lead to more fun games and are more dynamic. I was still in love with marines, and chose BA as my current army.

Because orkz is da biggest and da meanest you stoopid humie git!

Also because they became by favourite opponents in DoW and my view of warhammer became ork-centered because of that. Fighting orks all the time turned into not being too interested unless orks were present.

I just like the way my army works on the table. I play Orks but I play a really odd list, but it fits my play style down to the ground and I love playing it, and it is also pretty effective on the table, but mainly the love of using it thing.

Imperial guard, love the background and general theme, the idea of storming the enemy under the cover of artillery/heavy armour. The use of military colour schemes and the look of the vehicles are strong reasons too for me.

My main army would definitely be my 1st Legion right now. I went with them for equal parts love of their lore, and ease of painting. In 20+ years in the hobby, this is actually the first army that I've ever painted, so I wanted to start somewhere simpler.

Space marines have always felt kind of "Mary Sue" to me, genetic super soldiers are boring. So I jumped at the idea of the guard, average men and women fighting impossible odds, there's not super human strength or reflexes, just pure grit. Imperial Guard have more character to them, Space Marines don't have much in the way of personality. I like to customize my squads, give them personal touches and so on.

I feel that my macabre taste drew me into playing Necrons. In fantasy, I usually run undead/vampire type teams/armies. So, in 40k, Necrons fit the bill nicely.
