I've finally had some time to finish the Thunder Wolf.


The sound of hoofs thundering into the ground, stirred his blood to boiling, he had never been existed by the sound of the screech and grid of the Chapter’s Armoured vehicles or the roar of the Landspeeper or Thunderhawk, not the growl the their bikes. Silent but for the fall of hoofs on the ground and the roar of the wind was his way, riding a top a beast made for war a Thunder wolf.

He’d first been bonded to his beast soon after becoming a full member of the Lycan, and over the years of war had never been parted from his loyal companion, but time and battle were taken their toll, his friend was getting slower, his strength was still there but speed for his type of war was all important.
His pack had fallen one by one over time, until only a few remained, turning to his master for guidance, seeking a way to save what remained, he was at first horrified by Buliwyl’s plan . Buliwyf Asgradsson recognising their fearsome abilities of the Thuderwolves commissioned the Iron Priest to use all their skills to cyberise those mighty beasts, but to maintain their base nature.

How the Tech Priest had worked wonders, no longer was his companion, slowed by age nor was he as susceptible to the rigors of war, now flesh and steel combined, steel and blood, blood and rage. Truly a mount for a Space Marine, now his companion had the same armour a he wore.
Now he rode into battle a top a hound of death. The only sound, the hissing piston driving his beast legs , purr of the engine at it’s heart, but still the sounding of hoofs crashing into the ground, soon the screams of his enemies.

Absolutely gorgeous, I admit I had a few niggling doubts when I first saw it but the final touches and the paint job, really bring it to life.

There's still a little weathering to do, the skull on the shoulder pads just too white.

Not only does he look better than I thought, but he's a monster on the gaming board.

I've promoted him from Thunder Wolf Marine to Lord, he's killed every thing in front of him so far, and shaken off all incoming fire in return including everything from 2 baneblades, he even killed one of those and survived the Apocalyptic explosion that followed. COOL

Yes Thunderwolves are nuts arent they, try a unit of them lol. They fairly tear across the battlefield. Lord option is good because the belt of Russ atleat gives you an invulnerable save, as they can sometimes become bullet mabnets

The Hammer and Storm Shields work fine so far, that leaves the Belt for another character, not got my book to hand but I think they're the same point wise.

I have only used mine twice, first was against Deathwing and they got mauled before they could assault (no stupid cover).

The second time they rampaged across the table, admittedly it was cover heavy, but they rocked.

I do not usually go for that combo, but if i get any more i might give it a go, i usually go for pistol and weapon for some shootiness and still keep the +1 attack. I am no use against armour though.

So will we be seiing more of these behemoths being built?

I've found using Vehicles to block line of sight make great mobile cover and /or other friendly troop to supply 4+ cover save work just as well. Hugging a flank can help.
Once in close combat the trick is to move from one to the other ASAP.

I like the idea of a TW unit, but the length of time it took to build that one, I may just wait until GW release their version.

The lycan are taking a short break again, though this time just so I can paint some figures for family and friends (model Swop etc) and for fun.

Current projects include
1. Model swop Grey Hunter.
2. Danta conversion using Sanguinary Guard as a base
3. Chaplin conversion Sanguinary Guard Jet pack, and the skull torso off Sevrin Loth Honour Gaurd
4. Painting Sevrin Loth him self.
5. GK Terminators.

Now do I post the results here or start another?

Where did you get the wolf priests cloak, It is awesome with the wolfhead hanging down, I have yet to see one on any of my sprue's.

It s from the old SW sprue, which has a melta gun and other bits on it, GW still sell the sprue as a conversion pack, or atleast they did until recently, I havent checked in a while

Painted this Wolf Priest (Chaplin), Just For Fun using some of the bits lying around.
But after yesterdays battle he made quite an impact, turning a losing situation right on its head

Looks to me - Red Scorpion command squad bits.

I say this as a local GW staffer friend is currently doing an all FW pretty Red Scorpions army...and has a very similar chestpiece on one of his sergeants.

That wolf priest/chaplain is really awesome. I like the pose and you've done a great job kit bashing him together. He looks quite menacing. I also like the blue toned highlights on his black armor, opposed to the standard codex grey.

It's only a few pence more expensive than the Finecast Calgar and buddies too. That's what's hilarious.

You get beautiful honour guard in it and a Librarian.

And the Scorpion iconography's not hard to scrape off.

And its certainly one of the nicest looking Librarians I have seen too, as the part is pretty unlikely to show up on any of the sites I use for part supply I might just have to buy the whole set and incorporate into my army (assuming I ever actually get started)

I seem to be collecting a batch full at pressent.
I am currently turning the Legion of the Damned Sergent into one.

I like the Chaplin idea/models its just a pity GW reduced their effectiveness. I suppose you can't have it all.

Now that sounds like a plan!!!!!!!!!

Well my plan has always been to create a marine chapter with a grim reaper look to it, thats why I keep buying chaplains. Its just a matter of motivating myself to do something about it, I have a black-belt in procrastination.

I cannot remember who/where Chaplin are trained, is it like Teck Marine, where they go off to somewhere to learn, if so it possible that this location could come under attack.
