@ Kid - Thanks! Still loads to do on it...a little nervous as it’s my first time tiling a tub surround...

@ Theo - yeah, it was tha material I had on hand...what do you use these days for covering and texturing organic bits of terrain? Mostly stick to carved foam and/or built up cork? I’m definitely open to advice and suggestions!

Quick update here...a bit late, as I actually did this work on Sunday...got some painting progress done on some of my Age of Sigmar objectives and endless spells.

Plaster is the go to for larger areas still, but lately I’ve been using the Vallejo texture desert sand

For my alien planet. Easy to work with and hardens up nice.

Post apocalyptic park with gazebo that reminds me of the Music Man . Excellent layout . Vallejo makes a few textures like that one. Others are more like rock and lava, but all the jars are huge compared to GW pots for not too much more than 2-3 texture pots from GW you get 7-8 times as much.

Great work on the freehand too.

@Sgt. Oddball - Last Days is super fun. It can be terrain intensive, as most skirmish games tend to be, but you only need a handful of figures per side.

@Theo - Thanks!

Major milestone here...I finished painting all of the figures for Stuffed Fables! My FIRST completed miniatures project! Here's a shot of the last few that I finished painting today...I'll make a separate post with the whole set and link it to my first post under completed projects. Super stoked.

Ok, I played a few more games of Last Days since I last updated here...and I ended up recruiting two more survivors, a Firefighter - Ash Burnside, and a soldier - John McClane (I was considering using Snake Plissken, but decided on the former in the end). Figures shown below...my next goal is to get these guys painted up.

Next up are some cars I picked up at Target for $6 each that look just right with my Last Days figures and terrain...

Finally a few shots from my last game...

@Red
@Sgt Oddball
@Syro

Thanks, guys! It does feel good to knock something out...I need more wins to keep up the momentum!

I'm really enjoying Last Days, but am disappointed with how the integrated bases look on my survivor models (from Zombicide). So I've decided to do some custom bases on them...mostly street and sidewalk themed.

I've mixed up some Apoxie Sculpt and applied it to the tops of about a dozen GW 25mm bases. To flatten out the putty to a relatively even smooth finish, I've taken a stainless steel spatula, got it wet, and pressed the putty covered base top to it.

Then I waited for them to cure a little and carefully went around the edges with an Xacto knife. I'll clean them up a bit more with the knife and some sandpaper when they are fully cured...after that, I can start etching in the concrete seams and cracks.

Fango, the crater is looking great. You really put a lot of work into using the same materials and techniques that I used for my trench system. It should match up really nicely

The sidewalk bases are looking good too. I can't remember if I said this already, but I like that you are still going the extra mile to convert and improve your models even though you are working to get through your backlog. I hope you don't mind that I'm going to give a shout out to your blog, in reference to trying to get more of my collection finished and painted the way you are doing.

Hey all, it's been a while, I know... I haven't stopped hobby-ing, just haven't made the time to update about it here.

First up, Last Days:

I made some progress on my CH53 'escape vehicle'...

and made some tokens...(token design by Greg Cherry, I just printed, cut, and stuck them to the clear acrylic bottlecap stickers.)

Next, I got some more of the Blacksite MDF kits built for my Last Days table...

And some scatter, objectives, and barriers from various sources...

Next up, I started working on my Dracula's America posse...

Skinwalker tribe from Dead Man’s Hand and with bear and wolves from Otherworld Miniatures...

And here's Greg Cherry's Dark Confederacy posse...

And a few shots from a couple of games....

Ok... yeah, it's been a while. Things have been real busy IRL! I haven't had much time to hobby lately...kids' extracurriculars like sports, dance, etc, have been taking up lots of time, along with my two jobs...plus, I've been doing some more graphic design work for Maelstrom's Edge, and managed to meet up with the team at Salute this year. The team is currently in the middle of MEdge V2 design and playtesting, as well as ramping up for all of the development that goes into releasing a new version of the game! I've got a few hobby projects lined up for that game which I'll be showcasing here soon, after I deliver a few more retail box designs.

In the near term, I felt like I needed to get my hands dirty with some terrain building...and committed to a couple of deadlines to light a fire under my rear-end to get a fantasy themed terrain project done. So, I've signed up to co-run Relicblade at our local games convention (at the end of June), and joined the current Dakka LoER terrain competition (which ends in July). The terrain project is based around a round ruined tower in a swamp inspired by this drawing from Sean Sutter's new Volgelands expansion book that is currently being delivered to KS backers:

To meet the 'food' theme of the LoER terrain competition, my tower base will resemble an 8" round layer cake...just imagine all the mud is chocolate ganache. I also want this terrain build to be modular, so I can configure the parts of the tower in different ways and use them at table edges and corners depending on my current whims and fancy. In order to do this with a round tower logically, I divided it into 4 equal 'pie' slices and then make sure the edges of the rest of the terrain match up regardless of configuration...challenging! Here are my concept sketches on how this will work.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

Spoiler:

I also wanted to have the muddy soil and sand slope right into the table, so I decided to use styrene plasticard for the bases, and got some 1' thick rigid insulation foam from Home Depot for the tower. Initial progress photos below...

Thanks Sarge! Sorry this response is so late, I appreciate your feedback! I'm so sporadic on my hobby activity, I don't always take the time to slow down and read everyone's comments and respond. I still need to apply your feedback to my MEdge container Hab build and get an updated set of instructions back out to you!

Thanks Syro! Last Days IS a blast to play on a table full of great terrain and scatter. Ash Barker will be publishing an expansion to the game introducing seasons, more refuge types, more survivor types, more salvaged equipment/weapons, and rules for new zombie types..So I expect to jump back in to Last Days head first when that drops.

...and yes, Blacksite makes some great MDF kits! I'm working a little behind the scenes with them, testing a few new prototypes and even doing some test conversions of some of their kits to 15mm. Nothing I can talk about specifically, but lots of great things coming from Blacksite Studio soon, as they just purchased and installed two brand new industrial laser cutting machines, effectively doubling their potential output.

As far as Titanicus is concerned, I haven't touched it much since I made that update...as I got pulled back to IRL drama again...and to be honest, there are no other people locally that bought into the game and want to play it regularly, so my motivation to work on that project has flagged while I prioritize stuff for games people here ARE playing. Still, it looks like a great game and I do hope to get it to the table eventually.

Thanks again for your comments and feedback!

Thanks ZoBo, yeah, variety is the spice of life! With my hobby ADD, Id burn out pretty fast if I was stuck with just one or two projects. And yes, at the same time, the backlog is daunting and demoralizing at times. I plan to keep chipping away at it though!

Thanks for the comments and feedback!

Ok, so 6 months have passed since my last PLOG update...and my Shelf of Opportunity (from the Paint All the Minis posdacst...I'm trying to put a positive spin on the 'Vault of Shame' moniker) has only grown...with very little progress made on completing existing projects...but I haven't been idle.

Since June, I've added Star Wars: Legion (Empire and Seperatists) Warcry (Starter and Corvus Cabal), Necromunda: Dark Uprising, and Marvel: Crisis Protocol.

The biggest news is I've joined the 3D Printing revolution and in the past few months have procured an Anycubic Photon MSLA resin printer, and an Ender 3 FDM printer.

With the Photon, I've mostly been printing assets for Fallout:: Wasteland Warfare...and the Ender 3 has been pumping out Star Wars terrain and a few Fantasy buildings I plan to use for Rangers of Shadow Deep and any other generic fantasy game they might look good in.

All that being said, the pile of projects is a little overwhelming...So I've made a pledge to stop buying new minis and games in 2020...this includes Kickstarters (the exception being Sean Sutter's annual Relicblade KS).

I will be focusing on projects and minis I currently own in an effort to chisel away at my backlog...with a goal of 350 minis painted in 2020! I'll attempt to log my progress here, on Instagram and various FB groups I follow..but ultimately everything will show up in here at some point.

Since the New Year, I've already slapped paint on the heroes and villains in the Marvel: Crisis Protocol starter set and have Hulk and MODOK assembled and ready for paint...so I think I'm off to a decent start. I'll post some photos of my 3D prints and my recently painted minis in future posts as they are on my phone.

Happy New Year everyone, and happy painting!

Ok, so I've decided to come up with some sort of priority plan to knock some of these projects out...I've picked 3 games that I am currently enjoying and have related unfinished projects.

Game 1 - Marvel: Crisis Protocol
Game 2 - Star Wars: Legion
Game 3 - Warcry

I'm going to try to focus on these projects to completion before getting distracted by others...I picked three because I know myself and my attention span tends to wander (which must be painfully obvious to anyone reading this plog, lol)...I'm just narrowing the field in which that happens (or attempting to anyhow).

So this past weekend I did some more prep and priming on my Imperial army for Legion, and even got the movement widgets painted up...I'm thinking about painting the little dots red or green...what do you think?

Man, focus is overrated .

I guess if you get a chance to play that helps to focus attention. With no games being played by me I just paint what is demanding attention the most.

Your Crisis Protocol figures are looking great, but that range ruler you made is awesome sauce.

Thanks Cam, both are really fun skirmish games. The creator of Relicblade is pretty much a one man show...Sean Sutter has a background in comics and illustration and just decided one day to mix his two passions (art and wargaming). He concepted and designed everything himself, game rules, background fluff, miniature design, illustrations, inking and coloring, book layout, web design, and digital sculpting. The only thing he outsources is the metal casting, and the actual printing of the books and cards. Its a fun little fantasy skirmish game with lots of heart. Fast-paced, and super fun.

Thanks Theo, now to do the other ones....and get paint on Hulk and M.O.D.O.K.

I have not had much time to hobby this week, but I still have a ton to share from the last few months or so...so here's a collection of photos I took from my adventures into 3D printing...

First up, my MSLA resin printer, the Anycubic Photon...I went hog-wild when I first got this, printing STLs mostly Fallout related from Thingiverse...(There's also a little Star Wars, Hellboy, Necromunda, and Epic 40K)

A couple of Protectrons and various gubbins...

Spoiler:

Adding supports in the slicer software...

Printed...

Supports trimmed and cleaned...

Another full buildplate's-worth of Fallout bits and bobs, including a Fusion Generator, Protectron pod, a jukebox, part of a Pulowski Preservation Chamber, and an Imperial Security Droid (for Star Wars Legion)...

Spoiler:

Slicer, pre-print...

Printed and UV curing...

Poor K2-SO...alas, his STL was a hollow mesh, and not designed to be printed at 32mm scale...ah well, FFG has announced an official one recently, so no huge loss.

Supports removed and cleaned up...posed with the Protectron lid on the pod, and the robots from the previous print...

Even more Fallout stuff...

Spoiler:

A Mr. Handy fuel canister and a bed...#11 x-acto for scale!...

A motorcycle...may have scaled this a little small...

Nuka Cola bottles and caps, a set of bobbleheads, and a wall intercom, again, knife for scale...

A couple of completed Pulowski Preservation Chambers...one with a working door!...

Some of the scatter spray-painted gray, there's some lockers in there, a turret, a cash register, a cinderblock, a couple of RobCo computer terminals, and a power armor casualty objective marker...

Here's a Chryslus station wagon...

Spoiler:

And the official Modiphius Chryslus Coupe STL from DriveThru RPG...

Spoiler:

Fresh off the printer with supports...

Group shot after primer with official Modiphius resin Corvega, and FDM printed (and heavily post-processed) Pick-R-Up...(there's a Zone Mortalis pillar in there too for some reason)

Speaking of Zone Mortalis...here's the pillar before support removal.

Here's a Visitor bust for the Fallout Boardgame...STL from Thingiverse.

Some Epic 40K stuff...

Thunderhawk...

6mm Storm Troopers...

Some Land Speeders and attack bikes...

And...some more Star Wars droids...

That catches me up to present on resin prints...next post will showcase some of my FDM prints from my Ender 3.
