Rubicon are fun kits, my only point of annoyance as a non-rivet counter is that the insides of the tracks are blank, devoid of all detail, which is annoying, as those parts are quite visible with some kits.
That's my only criticism of the Rubicon Panther, otherwise it seems superior to the Bolt Action model. The way they achieve the interleaved wheels of the Panther is very effective and looks much better than the Bolt Action solid casting which lacks depth. But the tracks on the Rubicon kit are very crude and really seem a shame given the standard of rest of the model. I assume it's a result of some concessions given in Whats possible with the casting.
I agree, The models are terrific, with the exception of the front of the tracks, which look very toy-like. Could this be considered as a separate part on future kits?

This is due to the limitations with plastic injection moulds where we cannot imprint any details on the sides. Our design concept is to create highly detailed and accurate plastic models and yet easy-to-build and paint for gamers and modelers. We understand most people will put dirt on the tracks, so we opted to create one piece tracks for easy build and model integrity than having separate wheel and track pieces. As we are gaining more manufacturing experience, we are now looking into alternative ways to put some extra details onto the front tracks... probably starting from Q1/16 new projects!

Heh, for the *inside* of the tracks? That would be one hell of a complex slide core tool!

I'm not overly bothered by the lack of detail on the the inside of the time tracks for most of the models as most of the interior track will find itself obscured by wheels and running gear. What I do find a bit disappointing is the noticeable lack of detail on the outside of the tracks, especially on the tiger, as this requires either conversion or mud to rectify. At the end of the day though it's a minor thing to be concerned about I think, especially as the company's processes mature I hope to see it becoming less and less of an issue.

I did want to ask rubicon if we'll be seeming any Sherman upgrade kits in the near future with things like some crew members, stowage, and the M2HB .50's travel lock/stowage bracket on the back of the tank's turret*?

*Although maybe that last one would prove too small and too frail for a wargaming kit...

Collinsas, as we gained more experience with regards to mould making, we are now exploring various moulding techniques which gave reasonably good results. Our latest release in early September - the M3 half truck and the Opel Blitz - both uses a one piece cab body. We are now looking into other techniques to create track details for tanks... at least at places where it is most visible! Probably will see some results in 2016!

As for Sherman upgrade kits... we are working on it! The M10/M36 kit will come with a M36 turret that will fit onto existing M4A3 chassis, thus turning your tank into a M36B1 tank destroyer!

We are only an ONE year old setup, and we are still learning! Buy more to give us support!

1/56 (28mm) Digital Test Sculpt

After summarizing comments and feedback from our fans, here is the 2nd version of our Digital Test Sculpt.
The size and proportion is an "in-between" Perry's and the generic wargaming figures.
We would like to create something that is (close to) anatomically correct, yet easy to paint and being able to be tough enough to handle on the gaming table.

Here is a familiar face... we certainly hope so
Our 3rd digital test sculpt with a more dynamic pose, incorporating more feedback from our fans on social media!

How about an American GI for a change?

This is still a WIP project. We will not go into production until we get our scaling and proportion up to our standard.
C&C much appreciated!

Enjoy!

Would it be possible to get a size comparison of a Panzer 3 next to a 1/48, 1/35 and a Games Workshop Leman Russ tank?

I'd like to know if I can use these models are counts as for my IG.
I hate GWs poopy tank track design and have been looking for replacements. 1/35 is too big, ordered some 1/48 to see size.
Didn't know about your company until I saw this thread. 28mm is 1/56 but GW is heroic so "biggerish".

So... much sexy in this thread!

Just a quick question on these three

Why is the muffler/exhaust pipe rusted? It's on all 3 but nothing else on the tank is, so I'm wondering if there's an engineering reason.

I think because the exhaust often ran so hot on German engines (many tanks had shields because they would glow at night) which would bake off the protective paint, exposing the bare metal to oxidation.

Wow these new plastic kits are looking excellent. If I ever get back into 28mm WWII I think I may be using you guys for vehicles, the quality seems top notch compared to the Warlord kits, especially with the Hanomag. The difference between the two is night and day.

It's common to most exhaust systems. It becomes prohibitively expensive to make something that WON'T rust under typical use conditions. So in the interest of economics, it's made to be disposable.

That's why muffler shops are so common in America.

Some really great looking models here, and I really like the change to add crew to them as well. It'd be great to see them added to the 250 and 251s

This is our painted samples using our SU-SPG TS1 plastic sprues. The kit comes with a common chassis and two front hulls options enabling you to build either a SU-85 tank destroyer or a SU-122 assault gun.
Other options include open hatches, elevated guns, and fuel cans. No figures are included.

Much, much smaller than 40k tanks. Based on real dimensions of real vehicles.

Most will be longer and shorter than your typical IG tanks.

About the only tanks that would match a leman Russ's profile would be an American Sherman or Lee, and I doubt they'd match up well either, although the chassis could work as a base for a conversion, itj would take a good deal of work to look good.

A 1:48 Sherman matches up fairly well in height and length to a Russ, but is about an inch too narrow. So 1:56 would be far too small.

just remembered, you'd also have to account for how small real world weapons would look in 40k.

The gun on a King Tiger for example would be about the same bore size as an autocannon, which kind of goes to show just how insanely large the calibres of 40k weapons are. You'd need a Sturmtiger cannon to make a decent demolisher proxy for example, which is one of the largest diameter weapons ever employed on an armored vehicle.

40k vehicles are more like 1/48, 40k weapons are 1/35 or larger while models are 1/56 to 1/48.

So if a historical vehicle can be used in 40k depends on the actual real size.
A 1/48 M20 scout car fits well next to a chimera and a 1/48 KV-2 works good as LR-Ragnarok. While smaller tanks need to be 1/35 and larger ones 1/56. (a 1/56 Tiger 2 fits better for 40k than a 1/48 one, a 1/35 IS-3 can be used as BaneBlade)
