Thanks a lot guys!

Wasn't gonna post these until they were done (just bases left to do), but screw it. My first painted unit for my DIsciples of Tzeentch, a crazy bunch of Horrors:

Those Pink Horrors have come up really nicely. Lurid and freaky. I really like the glowing eyes.

Thanks a lot guys! The process to paint them is probably way too long and could comfortably be shortened with the same results. I thought the airbrush would basically suffice but in the end they needed two highlights on top to look good. Would probably skip the fluo entirely next time. It's

Airbrush screamer pink (oh how I wish this had an airbrush version)
Zenithal airbrush Fulgrim Pink
Wash Carroborough
Zenithal airbrush white (as undercoat for the fluo which is transparent basically)
Zenithal airbrush Vallejo fluo pink
Highlight Emperors Children
Highlight Fulgrim Pink

Then the eyes are just white with lamenters yellow glaze. Teeth and claws are rakarth flesh > agrax wash > white highlight. Purple is progressive coats of three purple GW colors.

Those Horrors are looking particularly awesome. Really vibrant.

Thanks for sharing the method too, really useful.

Thanks edc!

Actually managed to polish off a couple of the Silver Tower familiars as well (again sans basing), so much fun to paint these little guys.

Fantastic - love the colour and blending on the fish, and the script on the book!

Thanks az! W&N series 7 are just brilliant, would you believe that tiny script was painted with a size 1? The fish has my favourite trick - highlighting blue by mixing with beige instead of white (Baharroth Blue + Screaming Skull in his case). Makes such a lovely light sea green.

Alright guys, need your advice. The only thing that's finished on this Gaunt Summoner is the pink cloak. Now I'm unsure which colors to use. Here are my current plans:

Armour: Teal, like it already is.
Armour trim: Gold? Silver? silver would fit with the silver staff head but gold would pop more...
Feathers: yellow? Might get to gaudy. I want them to pop and I want to do color transitions on them so I need several colors...
Face: ???

Yep, I would indeed! My main brushes are W&N S7. I use a few others as "workhorse" brushes but the fine stuff goes to my W&N Brushes - that's where my own model tattoos and script come from. I'm also on board with using non-standard colours for highlighting and shading - bone to highlight blue (and brown to shade it) are two of my standbys.

OK, a fair bit of time has passed, but....

Trim: Gold. Definitely gold.
Feathers: Depending on how colourful you want to get, you could go green-yellow-red with the feathers, though keeping it slightly more subtle you could go red-yellow-blue, with blue at the bottom contrasting with the pink robe and then the red up top contrasting with the teal armour.
Face: Potentially take it pale - like a bluish-grey-to-white with deep blue in the shadows with perhaps a subtle touch of purple mixed into the shading.

Thanks for your opinion on the Gaunt Summoner Az, although sadly I have already painted most of him before your post (only the staff left really). I think you will be pleasantly surprised by my choice of colours

Thanks! I've been doing a lot of other stuff on the army (mostly airbrushing) so I haven't finished the summoner, but I can't keep myself from posting a GW-style teaser of the finished face:

Well... he's done. He's definitely my best model yet. I'm happy with him, really pushed myself and feel like I leveled up my skills. Quite exhausted now.

Outstanding work! So many colour transitions, and all done so very well. The "shine" highlight on the hard parts of his carapace/armour is a nice, subtle touch and the choice of colours for the feathers make them pop without being gaudy at all. Every element of the model looks great. You should be deservedly proud of the finished product here!

Oh, and nice choice of colours got his face as well.

Wow, thanks a lot Az! As you know I'm a big fan of your plog, so it means a lot coming from you. It was pretty funny how I had already picked basically the colours you recommended

On another note, I'm positively dreading painting the Lord of Change now. Can't imagine doing all the detail work I did on the Summoner on a figure ten times as big... but I don't really have different painting standards, I just paint everything the same way. Oh well, I guess I better carve out a huge chunk of the year and dedicate it to the big chicken

Wow, he looks fantastic Mymearan! I especially like the spot highlights on the armour plates across his back. The colour of the robes is also fantastic. I need to try the red with blue shadows approach on a model in the future.

Thanks a lot Bottle! I learnt a lot about colours, shading etc from the Figopedia book I got for Christmas. That's where I got the tip to shade with different colours, not just brown/black/darker version of the base colour. Fantastic book! The robe is Vallejo Fluo Pink on the brightest part, going via GW Screamer Pink to GW Sotek Green in the shadows, with a lot of blending that took a whole evening. I really have to practice wet blending so I can do it more consistently...
