Thanks Ynneadwraith, glad you like it
That's the plan, have it look all resplendent, like the Adeptus Custodes. All Gold and Red. However, I like the idea that the Ecclesiarchy know how to honour the emperor, but they don't know much about the machine spirit! All the gunmetal colours parts will be all grimy and rusty.
My hope is it will serve as an allegory of the Imperium — a mask of gold, but underneath it's a shambling mess

Amazing green stuff skills on this blog. This is way beyond the "kit bashing" of the title! Great stuff with loads of unique character.

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone
Sorry for the lack of updates recently I've been distracted by more D&D/Dungeon World recently. Hopefully I'll get the Ogryn and the Walker finished this coming week though.
The Riddle of Steel ha ha, good point. Maybe the title is too misleading. Think this is an improvement?

For sure. Your mix of kit bashing and scratch building is impressive, with some very original results.

I'm back on the 40k painting again. The Walker is maybe over halfway done. I have base colours and washes down and i'm starting on the highlights (just gold at the moment).
The Ogryn is still a WIP too. I'm not great at painting skin-tones, especially when there is so much of it! I keep adding highlights, freaking out because he looks to pale and then adding more wash. I think I'm slowly getting there. I'm doing the same thing with the cardinal except much paler base colour and a purple wash instead.

Thanks everyone, appreciate it!
I was looking at my old minis in that comparison photos and the bases are no longer up to scratch. I've scrapped off that neon green static flock and put down a layer of Devlan mud. When that's dry I'll give it the same treatment I gave the Ogryn base. I've also since mixed my neon green static grass with some winter grass to give a more natural and varied tone. Also while I'm working on them I'm going to touch up some areas, particularly leather work which has improved a lot since I picked up some more shades of brown and the Army Painter tone wash.
Finally, you can see the war pulpit is very almost done! I still need to do a fair amount of the boltgun metal areas, I'm under no illusion that this will be a quick job though!

I've been a bit distratced recently, I've come across a large number of old D&D minis from the 80s (more details here). The war pulpit is still on my work table though

Oh hello, it's been a while!
Sorry for the extended radio silence, I've been dabbling in more Role Play Games and also buying a house! So that's taking up a lot of my attention
That being said I've managed to work on a few projects, so I'll post retroactive updates over the next few days (Including a jet bike construction kit Kickstarter).
On top of that, last night I had a friend over to watch Escape from LA + Stargate (Kurt Russel-a-thon) and paint minis. As it's been a while I decided to warm up by painting the Chaos Sorcerer from the Hero Quest set. I kept it simple, just red and blue with highlights dialed to 11. What do you think?

Nice painting! I love the subtle-yet-cartoonishly-vivid tones.
And (I'm late to the game on this one) that War Pulpit and Cardinal is inspired!

Thanks tinfoil! Yeah those old sculpts have tons of character
Here are the jet bikes I got from the Kickstarter. I'm not really sure what to use them for as jet bikes aren't exactly common in the imperium. I like the variation of light and heavy bikes though!
Still lots of painting to do on them but I'm happy with the colour schemes. I could use them for Star Wars Edge of the Empire or something.

Recently I've been making slow progress on my generic humans and I've been adding washes to old minis I painted ages ago before I had washes. I've also been removing old static grass that I applied in blogs and I'm replacing it with the tufts which look way better.
I'll be using a lot of the generic humans for a RPG campaign I'll be GMing soon. We'll be using The Sprawl ruleset but setting the game in the 40K universe.

I have an old Jes Goodwin Eldar mini, I must have painted it in the 90s. I've paint stripped it and now I'm going to paint it back up in a similar colour scheme. I've just started the initial layers but it's a joy to paint!

Thanks everyone! ^___^
I'm making slow progress, but progress none the less
I might have to start checking eBay for more of those good good 90s sculpts, they have tons of character!
I've also finally started painting that Battle Servitor I made a year ago!
Any pro tips for painting bruised flesh? At the moment I'm highlighting to off-white from pink, then I'll apply a wash of purple and highlight back up to off-white.
