My basing is pretty much the same across the majority of my armies. Black base with some tundra grass, black grit and maybe some small rocks.

Tactical squad finished for now. I need to get new transfers and find a good tutorial on how to make them lay flat on a curved surface. Will post up some pics of the rest of my 30k army this weekend. My thoughts are to do a support squad armed with heavy bolters next or a primos medicae.

OK, I'll play "bad cop"... I mean Tom...
I think the figures would be much more dynamic if there was more contrast in your red. Darks much darker, and a brighter up-shade. Don't get me wrong, they look nice now... but the armor is pretty flat-looking. Would be a lot more exciting with darker darks and lighter lights.

Hi Yorkright!
So much win here- and lots for me to attempt to emulate. I very much like your use of color- especially with the Eldar (I've recently started picking up Eldar units with an eye towards building a 1250 point force- I've never played them before). I'm like you in that I play the game to have the opportunity to kitbash, convert and paint. I'm having a ball trying out new techniques on vehicles at the moment, but your use of shading and highlight have me itching to try to improve my skills on figures. Terrific work all around, with excellent attention to detail.

@EDC thank you, looks like Blood Angels are going to be good in 8th edition may have to run the apothecary as a Sanguinary Priest too.
@Meercat thanks for stopping by, I have been playing Eldar for decades and they were my first army you will enjoy them as most of their units are good. Stopped over on your blog and must say you are quite the converter really good stuff there.
@Moltar thank you, might be trying out the Devastators tonight in a 30k game along with the Apothecary.

Have not had time for any updates lately. Life gets busy sometimes. There is a tournament coming up soon, 2000 pts 8th edition rules. Digging out my deathcompany and some that I bought from one of our local gamers. My old beakies need some chainswords added, plus I have to re base the new models. Here is a WIP pic of them, once I decide on my full list will toss out a picture of the army.

DC looks cool, which are yours? I am guessing the stoney bases and the greens are from your friend.
The red marines are looking great, that Apothacary is looking sweet, could do with some pics...hint hint.
Totally personal thing here, but I don't mind the slightly flatter red you have going, it is a bit different to all the deep reds that are about, and adds a nice muted tone more in keeping with military styles than bright eye popping colours that yell, "here I am!" But if you want to follow the crowd, then Gits is spot on, some deeper shadows and a few crisp highlights. It is all looking great, you have a great style of painting, really good work.

Hey guys,
@WarbossDakka , Yeah they should be alot of fun to play, who doesnt like half crazed steroid fueled madmen with chainaxes!
@Cam Thank you I like the flat red too, did bring up the reds and darkened up the shadows, I shall try and get some photos of him up soon. Been busy with the DC so the Apothecary and Heavy Bolters are on the back burner.
@Solar Lion I have been using the online rules, the FLGS owner and I are good friends so he has let me know how the Blood Angels work. The stormraven is a beast so if you have 2 of those they do alot of work.

Pictures of my 8th edition tournament army plus a few for Cam of my apothecary.
Army consists of 2 Vangaurd Detachments and one Assassin detachment.
Dante, Sanguinor, Mephiston and Sanguinary Priest as HQs
5 man unit of jump pack d/c with 1 thunderhammer, 1 with power sword and 1 with plasma pistol.
5 man unit of jump pack d/c with 1 power sword and 1 plasma pistol.
5 man unit of jump pack d/c with 1 power sword.
5 man unit of d/c with one power axe.
5 man unit of d/c with 1 power fist.
4 man unit of sanguinary guard, one with plasma pistol and one with power fist.
1 Storm Raven with assault cannons, multi meltas and hurricane bolters.
2 Rhino Transports with extra stormbolters.
1 Eversor Assassin.
Not sure how it will perform, but should be fun to play. Mephiston is in so I can try out some psychic abilities plus he is a beast in CC. Hoping to give it a try on this Wednesday night as our local FLGS has a copy of the rules.
