Works for me...I like it because I like to use my giants in certain games. The massive 12-14-16" tall monstrosities are neat but rarely table-worthy in most games.

PS: Received my first two "small" Bones Black miniatures today - will report my thoughts on them when I paint them up. I've disliked immensely the Bones smaller figures I've had, so I'm curious if these'll be better. They're a soft grey and not Black at all, but it says so on the package

Maybe more giant than you think - those are vultures, not crows....

The Auld Grump - about four or five inches, toe to top of the head.

Looks like there will be an underwater expansion pack in the Kickstarter -

Underwater expansion will be tempting - should go well for DeepWars?

Well I got around to starting on a human-sized Bones Black miniature. As expected it's slightly better than normal Bones, and still terrible compared to metal. It's also grey and not black. However, looking forward to it crisping up some of the larger monsters a bit. Normal 28mm sized figures will probably still be a no-go for me in Bones Black.

That would actually be a really cool model.

Just opened my Bones 4 pledge. It turns out that Bones Black is only actually "Dark Grey" in a very dimly lit room. At night. With sunglasses.

But more importantly, are there a bunch of special snowflake rules to painting them and not having the paint flake off or become a tacky mess? Can we prime or seal them with sprays lke other models? Or do we still have to start with a layer of shellac/thinned liquid greenstuff/brown liner/magic dust and then seal them only with paint-on Reaper(tm) brand sealer?

Because I've got a giant fething treeman here I want to start on, and spray cans would seem the most sensible way to do all of those things, rather than using two full bottles of ReaperHD brown as the base coat...

I normally didn't have problems with Bones - until recently. I primed a Bones Giant and did have it turn all tacky and awful. I powered through it, but it was alarming.

Some spray can primers don't play nice with bones. Airbrushing or brushing on vallejo's primers works great though. Apparently a misting with testor's dullcoat also works well.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Yeah, the questions are about the new Bones Black - I'm well aware and versed in how gakky regular bones is to work with.

Basically, is there any difference wih Black/does it work with sprays/is it easier to work with using regular paints/does it still become tacky?

I don't have a "larger" Bones Black figure yet to really say. My first small one took primer fine, but it took primer that works on other Bones stuff, so I'm not counting that.

Nod. I've gotten around the stickiness on the original formula (most of the time, anyway) but it's a real pain. If the new stuff is less horrible to work with, I'd prefer to use normal mini-painting methods over special snowflake ones.

I totally agree. I've largely switched to airbrushing primer so I just did the bones black miniatures I got the same way. You definitely don't need special sealer or paint though. Normal works there. I used P3, Vallejo, Army Painter and Citadel on them. For sealer I have some I brushed on vallejo, others I airbrushed on some artist matte varnish, and another I sprayed with krylon matte.

The only mystery appears to be spray priming.

Bones doesn't need primer.

I tried craft paint as my first coat on the white Bones 3 Stoneskull plants, and it worked fine. Used A's color scheme, in fact. Much appreciated!

"looks like any matte rattle primer is safe for bones black."

It makes sense if they are more like board game plastic and less soft and bendy that rattle cans would work.

Thanks! I was trying to find something on the Reaper forums, but my google-fu was weak today.

I'd play with some of the srue first just to be sure I know the grey CAV bones didn't take the stuff I use well.

Was there a list somewhere of what in Bones 4 was supposed to be the new, amazing Bones Black and what was regular old crappy bones (now in light grey!)
I'm still in the process of going through my pledge, and the quality seems to be ...worse and more toy-like than before overall - oversized, soft details galore on the larger models, which was where previous Bones campaigns have had their best models. With WizKids on the block now doing relatively inexpensive but high quality PVC, Bones looks like gak by comparison.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet......

Bones 5 will start on October 2, not September as originally announced. They figured that with ReaperCon, Pathfinder paints, and Bones 5 all starting at relatively the same time, it wasn't a good idea.

The latest Reaper Live mentions this - there is also a count down timer behind them that shows "53 days.....etc)

The expansions are all bones black I believe, the core set is normal bones.

Regardless of the quality, bones is more interesting sculpts. I'm quite happy with Dreadmere, which was pretty much all I got from the last one.

Dreadmere was great. And Reaper had extra sets for retail, doubled the price -- and still ran out!

Dreadmere's still in the paint queue, but have a pic of some with the Galladoria Games City Dock Kit:

*sigh* I have a $40 Reaper order I'd love to make, but it requires three of the Bones ogres to be in stock all at the same time. This has not occurred in over six months.

Are they already in your cart? Dunno if that would help tell Reaper these models are in demand.

Also, contact Reaper support and/or post on the Reaper General forum (or whatever forum) about this issue.

fwiw, I wait until October and December to place orders for their special promotions. They also have a Black Friday special (not a sale) of one or two big random items.

Good luck!
