Speaking of that, I am disappointed to see a lack of a large single frame plastic wave like was rumored some time ago to be released near 6e.

That might be down to the news that was out 3(ish?) weeks ago that GW see’s the single-frame plastic characters as a ‘stop gap’, and that they wouldn’t be doing any more. Instead they’d be turning from the first real bit of modelling evolution they’ve made in the past half-decade and focusing their attention on more Finecost.

As someone who loves those single-frame plastic characters and who bought a number despite not actually playing Warhammer, this saddens me.

People have been spoiled in this modern age. Remember the 2nd edition box? Dear god I hated that even at the time.

2nd edition is before my time. I think when I first got into 40k it was just after the release of Chapter Approved... Then I got out of it until about 3 years ago when I got back in.

Heh, the first though in my mind was "Which Chapter Approved?" Technically, the first Chapter Approved/Book of the Astronomicon was released in Rogue Trader.

O.o not that one... The one with Sisters of Battle and Chaos cultists.

So for those out of the loop, or too young. What were choas cultists (and Sob) like back in the day?

Would be good to contrast how GW has changed over the many years it has been growing into the omnipresent super power of today.

The Sistas and Chaos Cultist is the Chapter Approved book of 2002, for the 3rd Edition.

THe models for the Sistas looks exactly the same now then then, the only addition that was made are the newest Exorcists and Immolator tanks, Saint Celestin, the Crazy leather girls(forgot their name) and the Penitence Engines.

The cultists where just cheap models with IG stats with S3 AP6/AP- weapons and heavybolter/stubber guns, you could put a few meltas/plasma/flamers for 1 per 5 or 6 models, and you could take to 30 models per squad.
They where lead by a Cult Agitator, who could get to 40pts of Wargear and Gifts from the Gods from CSM codex.

In the same Chapter Approved, Termies got their invulnerable save!, because yes, before that, Termies din't have any invul save at all.

It was also the birth of the Cultists Termies!

S5 for Termies of khorne( in 3rd Ed the MoK give you +1 Strength, not Attack), Rubric Termies who had the "All is Dust" rule,;they could only be wounded by weapons of S5 or higher, anything else was NO.
T5 and Plague Swords Nurgle Termies and Init5 and Sonic armament for Slaaneshi Termies.

There was also the additional Wargear for Deamon Princes; Deamon Weapon, Chaos Armour(3+), Chaos Rune( EW) and a few powers/special rule from each God.
Funny thing though, a DP of Khorne could mount a Juggernaut..., gaining +1S,T,W and +2A..., with an axe of Khorne(make new attacks for each 6 to hit) and Khorne's Fury( +1D3A in charge)...

Ah miss the old days...

I can agree with him, the single frame plastics are great! Although Finecast has improved in my experience, even with a perfect cast it still feels too bendy and delicate to me, I prefer plastic even if it is a choice between 2 perfect examples of the 2... well, as long as there are long thin fiddly bits anyways.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Starting to get a sinking feeling now, just called back to get my tracking number again, and now they tell me they're not dispatching starting from midnight last night afterall, they're starting "at some point today", and they "usually" get the tracking number one working day after that. So that means UPS will collect the parcel today, and leave it sitting in the local depot down there all weekend, it'll go to the main depot on monday, my local depot on tuesday, and if I'm lucky it'll arrive next wednesday.

What's the point of preordering direct from GW and paying for express shipping if I don't get the bloody thing until five days, three working, after the release date? Hell, I can preorder a PC game from Amazon and pay no shipping at all, and they still get it to me on the day of release.

Bah.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

I have also ordered one on express, and if it doesn't arrive till next Monday or Tues, I'll be ringing GW for a refund, and I'd advise you to do the same. I had the 6th edition book without express and that arrived on the Monday after it launched on the Saturday, if express arrives on the same day as someone not paying extra postage they shouldn't be offering it as an option.

I'm buying mine in store, but personally I'd not be too bothered if they'd run out before I get there (even though I pre-ordered). It's not like I'm short on models to assemble and paint as it is. Is it so bad to wait an extra day or two? I'd bet most of us already have something of a backlog to keep us busy until arrival.

Unless you want the models for a tournament or upcoming game or something, I'd understand that.

Oh the wait isn't an issue at all, but paying a extra £10 and receiving it the same day as some one who paid zero is a issue.

UPS deliver on a Saturday so my assumption is the £10 extra would get it to us for release day. If this isn't the case, I believe I'll be well in my rights to ask for a refund and they really need to remove it as an option.

I'd also need to check, but I believe there is a legal issue of charging for a service you are offering others for free.

There really is no point anymore, honestly. All it really does is guarantee that you'll get one at some point...but even then that's not entirely true, as was shown with the clusterfeth surrounding the release of 6th edition.

Are we talking about the same GW that made Space Hulk limited when it could have sold threetimes as much boxes and even more miniatures?

I don't think ups or fed ex work on weekends do they? Even if you get express shipping that's only listed as busniess days. So it kinda throughs a wrench in it since releases always are on Saturdays.

The work on the weekends, but they don't deliver packages on the weekends, which is the important part to people waiting on said packages.

Some areas may, but not here.

Write to a consumer watchdog (such as Watchdog). GW sent you a shipping confirmation which listed the date your product had been shipped as 2 days ago (if it's the same date as mine was apparently "shipped"). If they still haven't shipped the product then they should not have sent you a shipping confirmation as that is misleading the customer.

What good would that do. So if you do a search you find out GW lies regarding when it ships product. Technically though they don't. The fine print basically gives them an extra two weeks on any of the shipping information they release. So if you are not willing to wait for up to two weeks from release date your out of luck.

On the shipping. Man UK parcel delivery must really really suck.

That being said if GW UK is in bed with a particular means of delivery (eBay in the US has contracts with the USPS for example) then it could be that part of finished invoice per a particular customer includes an automated sending of a tracking number whether or not the package has already been shipped. I know it's that way for some places here in the US. But when you tracked the package at the delivery service did it say it has been picked up from GW ? What state of ship was it in and did it suddenly get rolled back a day or two later. Scan progress at the delivery service's website doesn't have anything to do with GW.

THE FUN HAS BEEN DOUBLED!!!
