Thanks guys, as usual you're right in encouraging me to not settle for quick & dirty.

Where does that leave us? Well... back to building.

I finished off the second set of 3 Raiders.

As I was contemplating the fact that I was most certainly going to have to buy 2 more boxes to fill out these squads, I found two sets on eBay, already assembled for $15 less than the boxes sell for new. Sold. I'm sure they'll need work, but it has to be easier than building them from scratch.

The last items to build were 10 skitarii vanguard to fill out my two 5-man squads. Took a bit longer than I'd hoped... but I'm happy with the results and was able to build a couple of special models as well (one with a data tether and a proper alpha). With that done, I'm finished building for Nerdy... just have to wait for those 6 hounds to show up and I can send things off. I'm guessing this will be the last major installment of AdMech that I send to Nerdy as I don't foresee buying any of the transports or flyers. I guess you never know what they might come up with in the future though. So here's everything. Unless I run into something else that demands Nerdy's special touch with a brush.

Now I can get back to doing a little painting. I already have my army built for the next campaign game with Tyler (1250 points). I've added some new things and scrambled the rest. I am staying away from named characters and the robots ATM in order to keep thing competitive and interesting for us both. For now, I'm going to paint up two characters... both of which will eventually play significant roles in the campaign. The Red Gobbo and X-101 (servitor). I think I'll jump on the red gobbo first.

Then I think it'll back to building. I have 10 Pteraxii Sterylizors (which is one of the absolute DUMBEST GW fake Latin names I've ever heard) that need buildin' to help deal with Tylers own personal "million-man-march" of guardsmen. The sterylizors won't really come into their own until I get the hounds back... but they should be fun to fiddle with.

Grot tanks after that... but that's pretty far in the future. We'll see how I feel then.

Finally got around to getting a rough battle report written up for the 3rd installment of my campaign with Tyler's Cadians. I apologize for the rubbish pics. Once I get my studio cleaned up enough that we can play up there... the lighting and photography should improve drastically. That being said, these pics are actually no where as blurry as they appear on the blog when I look at it. Open one up in the gallery (double click) and most of them are pretty sharp. No idea what's going on there.

The battle for New Caledonia: Chapter 3 - An unexpected encounter. 1000 points... can't remember the mission.

Now that Waaaagh Gitsplitta has cleared off. The deserters start to emerge and organize. Big Mek Gotgubbins (actually a very clever grot controlling a tin boy) and a mek mate of his are gathering up the gretchin and beginning to build an army of their own. Their first target.. a deserted and bombed out mek base, just perfect to serve as their new base of operations. What they don't know is that a Cadian patrol is heading for the same area...

Oily smoke a flames billows out from the ruined buildings scattered around the abandoned ork encampment. Many of these buildings were familiar to Big Mek Gotgubbins and his grots, as they worked them before the weirdbeaky assault on the planet. Now it was time to reclaim them and start transforming them into a new base of operations. Waaagh Gitsplitta? BAH! There were fortunes to be made and kingdom's to build right here on New Caledonia! The grots had been busy and under the direction of Gotgubbins had built many machines of waaagh. Plenty to sweep and clear an abandoned facility of any stragglers.

Cadians deploy in their quarter, already on one objective and ready to strike out for two others.

Deployment from the Cadian perspective. They're pushed as far forward as they can go, with the exception of two squads to hold the objectives on the short edge quarters to the left.

Two trusty squads of Cadians ready to hold critical objectives in the rear.

Grot Tanks and a big mek prepare to hold the Gretchin right flank.

Two groups of two lobbas take up position in the ork rear to rain death apon the humies.

Four Kans and the Gretchin boss (Big Mek Gotgubbins in mega armor) are as close to center table as the terrain allows. They need to plug a gap and slow the Cadians down.

A Cadian chimera filled with guardsmen lead another squad forward on the Cadian left (these will eventually com into conflict with the grot tanks).

A squad of grots duck behind a burning truck while scoring an objective.

The enemies have each other in site!

The Gretchin make the first move. Thanks to their kustom job, the kans move much faster than normal and are able to engage the Cadians in combat immediately. A kan is lost to overwatch, but the casualties inflicted on the Cadians are significant.

The chimera is destroyed and more Cadians die, but none flee! Brave servants of the Emperor these men are.

End of Gretchin T1. Grots are high-tailing it to the far left objective, the kans and boss have mucked up the Cadian right while the grot tanks have expended their ammo on the approaching chimera and trailing infantry.

The Grot right flank. Nothing too exciting going on here yet.

The Cadians disembark their troops and let the grots have it!

Wounds are dealt... but so far the Grot spearhead is holding.

On the Grot right the Cadians do the same.

The fight on the Grot left intensifies. More models lost on both sides, but a unit of Cadians tries to sneak through the Grot line.

Feeling the Kan has the taurox under control, Gotgubbins leaves the front in order to help the grots with the sneaky guardsmen. This turned out to be unnecessary as Da Red Gobbo used a skill (giving the grot unit stickbombs) and a strategy (letting every grot in the unit throw their grenades at the same time) to wipe out said guardsmen.

On the grot right the number of tanks is slowly dwindling. They are doing some damage to the Cadians, but not enough. The chimera is becoming a problem.

Not looking good for the grot tanks...

The last grot tank holds up the chimera while two squads of grots fire into the large Cadian squad menacing their objective. The Cadian squad is severely depleted as a result. This was during my "perfect turn 3" where nearly everything I did worked. Grot shooting was awesome this turn.

The taurox that will not die faces the Big Mek alone. Eventually... it will take him out!

Cadians chill on an objective...

Greenskins pile on a commissar.

The commissar is fast, but the Red Gobbo is faster! He raises his sword in celebration after felling the humie.

The Cadians move into Gretchin territory unopposed.

Da Red Gobbo meets his maker!

End of T5 and the end of the game. The Cadians are still pushing forward, but the grots have two untouched artillery units, a full squad of grots and the big mek with KFF. Which army shall take the day?

Imperial Guard units wait nervously...

It's.... a 55 to 55 tie! "Bugger!" says the Cadian warlord. The remnants of both sides pull back, unwilling to risk total annihilation by overextending themselves. This resolution of this conflict will have to wait for another day.

Thanks for reading!

Surprise project! My disciplined plan for what was getting finished next went right down the tubes when I found this! This... is an original Epicast (licensed by GW) ork gobsmasha tank. It's basically a direct scale up of GW's "Epic" (8mm?) game back before GW made full sized vehicles. Resin of course. They're just so awesome. Date on the back of the model is 1992...

At the same time I'm working on it's brother... an old ork battle wagon that is now just about perfect as a trukk.

Lastly I have a painted Bowelburna. I did a little converting on it. I'm going to un-convert it and return it to it's original form, then touch up the painting. I don't think I still have the heavy bolters that came with it, but I do have some really old metal ork heavy bolters. I think they'll suffice.

Even if I can't use them, they'll be great set-pieces for the grot battles, or perhaps special objectives. The old battlewagons work really well as trukks though. At least they'll see some use.

Thanks Yorkright. You and I are both of an age where we remember simpler times...

Here's something you might like then... Gobsmasha finished. I decided not to weather it as it's waited 28 years for paint... it's earned at least some time with a "factory new" look.

It's been a long time since I've felt good enough about a figure to post more than one photo of it.

Been trying a new set of sable brushes that I picked up from a company named Quidisi. Have been frustrated with the quality of the W&N brushes I've been getting over the past couple of years so I thought I'd try these out (7 brushes for ~ $40). I'm very impressed. They've got sharp points as opposed to the round points I'd usually get from W&N, but they've got a great handle design and the brush tips work beautifully so far. All the hand-work on the tank was outlined with a 2/0, then filled in. Lots of very long, precise, delicate lines.

Beautiful paint job Gitz, plasma effect looks good against the bronze and the bad moonz squiggles are well done. Don’t know if has good rules or not but I hope you get to use it in a battle report soon.

Ahhh the old Gobsmasha, I really wanted one of those, despite not playing orks. Fantastic find and an excellent paint job as always... but weathering it in the future will make it more orks

thanks for the tip on Quidisi brushes too, I'll have a look at those next time I need some

Thanks gents!

@Yorkright: No rules for decades unfortunately. I've got a few ork vehicles that don't fit anything anymore... they'll make good terrain or objectives though. This just needed to be done.

@Veterbi: Glad you liked it! Yeah... it was brutal. Just as we like it! Have round 4 this evening. Back to IG vs AdMech. Were up to 1250 points and Tyler's got 60 infantry, 2 transports, 2 tanks and 2 heavy weapon squads. Not sure I can deal with that, but we'll give it a go.

Here's the second old vehicle, ready for detailing. This one at least will have rules as it makes a great trukk. I'm trying to do as little modification of the model as possible so I can keep it in it's original form while still making it look appropriate. As you can see I've found a perfect little grot driver for it. Need to figure out how to add a wrecking ball and a heavy gun of some sort without significantly altering the model. I think this one will get the full weathering treatment as it's kind of plain otherwise.

Yeah, I think I have a couple of spots picked out for that. Kinda boring as-is. Doesn't have the innate character of the gobsmasha.

To add the wrecking ball and gun without chaging the original form why not make them seperate pieces and add them to within the compartment then you can remove them when you wish.

Yeah, it looks pretty awesome! I think I'm out of the new-model market for a while. Need to catch up on getting things painted (and I've spent a stupid amount of money getting my AdMech up-to-date). Have a bunch of Bushido models to paint and repair too. Once that's all done I'll take a look at what's new.

Don't worry... that all falls under "detailing".

Finally had a chance to make a little progress on the trukk. Man those little checkerboards really do brighten things up. Long way to go I'm afraid. I need to do something about those interior walls but there's no way I'm putting the black flame pattern across the whole thing. Aside from being tedious work I think it would lose it's impact if I use that much of it.

I really like how the truck is turning out. Perhaps you could do the interior walls like you did the floor or some orkish graffiti would look good too.

Do you need to do the interior? Surely it will be holding a few of the Boyz to remind you who is aboard at the time and therefore they will conceal the inner walls a lot of the time?

Your painting is well above mine, but if it was my truck I would be calling the interior finished about now.
