Honestly, it's kinda refreshing to see an Ork vehicle that doesn't look like a rainbow threw up on it. Maybe you could keep the silver as the primary color on this one, and use the other colors as accent instead?

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

Indeed it is. Am looking forward to getting to work on it! It's been sitting in a box for a very long time.

Yorkright wrote: Looking good Gitz! Maybe next time we get together I can have a go at the boyz.

I think you'd enjoy that. The boyz are still very interesting and fun, in spite of not having a new codex yet. I have lots of build options and at least one reasonably competitive one... so it's all good.

You sir, just made my sig!
It's a great suggestion too. I was planning on using the metal as a base for most of the panels (though there will *have* to be some yellow), and just treating them differently with washes, highlights and weathering powders to give it a proper scrappy look without overloading it in a riot of color.

Thank you one and all!

I'm doing a side project for a buddy of mine (which I'll show when I'm done). In the meantime here are a few pics for my battle with a friend's Cadians the other evening. Fun game. After a while we forgot about keeping track of victory points but I can say he was leading early, but the tide of the game was swinging in my direction near the end. Could not believe how super-aggressive he was with IG facing orks, but it really worked as it kept me from getting beyond mid-table for 3 turns.

Here is the table after deployment. This is an Imperial industrial facility that was taken over by orks, but before it could be looted the Imperium came back. Neither side wants to destroy it though, so if you are within 3" of any pipes or tanks, you were -1 to hit due to everyone trying not to destroy the "liquid gold" in the pipes. This meant that for all practical purposes, nearly the entire table was -1. Thus the Cadians were hitting on 5s and the Bad Moons 6s. The Cadians still had a fair amount of shooting success, the orks not so much... aside from the 3 grot bomms which made up probably 95% of my successful shooting.

The grot bomm launchas and the big trakk debut on the table.

Bullgryns and supporting armor are ready for battle! The bullgryns scare the crap out of me as they're nearly impossible to kill with a combination of 2+ saves & 3+ invuls to choose from. The guardsmen... not so much, however I must admit the most annoying units of the day were regular infantry and chimeras, which completely bogged me down.

My left flank, the small red tank is a bubble chucka today.

My right flank, looking mighty!

The bullgryns come pouring through the gap in the barricade!

The guided grot bomms come raining down. I mortally wounded two tanks and blew the manticore off the board. However the two wounded tanks both eventually got healed up to their top bracket because I couldn't get to them to assault, nor could I hit them with shooting!

The bullgryns win the fight with my trukk over the objective (to my left), however they fall just short of killing it, allowing the boyz to jump out safely the next turn.

Hyper-aggressive Cadians charge mid-field and block my advance (granted, my trukk has already blocked that same path).

Rabid guardsmen attack a trukk full of boyz! Lucky for me there was a squiggoth full of burnas near-by. These guys are nearly in MY deployment zone!

My warboss (on bike) and the boyz pile into the bullgryns. The warboss is a crazy beat-stik but just manages to kill off the two 3+ invul guys, leaving the rest of the squad to slowly be beaten to death by the boyz. Though, the bullgryns did plenty of beating back too. Frankly I think they all had a lot of fun in the process.

This is T2/3. You can see how well Tyler's Cadians have held me up mid-board. I'm not being cautious... I just can't go anywhere.

Surviving boys from the blue trukk (I call the blue guys my "blue moons") finally get to chew on some 'oomie flesh before being blown away by another squad.

The bubble chucka and a launcher charge into assault with a chimera to try and stop it from shooting up one of my boyz squads. Unfortunately neither unit really has a chance of hurting it (the bubble chucka is S2! LOL!)

The other two launchas are duking it out with a small squad of scions that dropped onto an objective on my side of the table. I knew these would be good for something!

Some tactical thoughts on the units for those interested.

- The Grot Bomm Launchas are excellent, perhaps too good as written. They're basically single-shot supa kannons but because of the grot guidance they hit on 2s. You combine that with a well chosen strat and you're taking out a major vehicle in one shot pretty reliably for 50 points. I think I'm going to play them as BS3 rather than BS2 UNLESS I'm playing against an army with an updated dex. In that case I'll need all the help I can get. They are "Legends" however so you need your opponent's OK to use them. I do like the fact that the launchas persist after shooting and can still run around to grab objectives, hold table quarters, perform actions & pick off small units.

- The Big Trakk didn't do much, but it looked very cool so who cares?

- I took a Bubble Chucka for laughs. It was so bad you couldn't even laugh at it. I don't think it caused a single wound. No more of that crap. Rather than costing you 40 points, you should get a 40 point bonus if you take one.

- The Mega Dread didn't do a lot this game because of the choked table and 6's needed to hit in shooting... however it looks great and generally is pretty formidable. It's secondary weapons nearly cleared out an entire guard squad on their own... however I'm thinking it might be more functional as a meka dread. Basically the same load-out but a BS of 4 and the ability to repair other vehicles (no secondary guns, 1 less attack & 2 less wounds though). This is one of the few FW models that I think hits it's point cost/value balance reasonably well.

- With the right combination of traits, the warboss on bike is simply abusive. That being said... this battle all he did was kill the two 3+ invul bullgryns and later a psycher... but those two bullgryns were pivotal to maintaining control of my left flank.

- The squiggoth is very good, also very expensive but again... one of those models that consistently hits it's point cost/value balance. I think the ideal load-out (as far as a transport) is 8 burnas, a spanner with the "klever spanner" upgrade (1 CP) and a big mek w/ KFF. Run it in close support to a couple of trukks full of boyz and I think you'll be pleased with the result. The flamers really saved my butt this game.

Yeah, 9th edition is *ALL* about controlling the mid-field. You have to be aggressive, no matter what army you run.

Glad y'all had a good time, thanks for the pictures!

Couple of recent projects.

A buddy of mine got this pro-painted Slaan Lord a while ago. I gave it a bit of a repaint/heavy touch-up, then did the base for him. He'd seen someone else do the chains hanging off of the model and thought it looked cool, so I did my best to recreate it for him. I may add a smidge of rust powder to the chains to make them look a bit more aged. I have some mounrfang cavalry of his that I'll be doing next (along with my 40k projects).

Secondly a little experimental casting project. I have a really cool looking ork nob that was supposed to be riding on top of the Kill Tank, but as such he has no feet. I didn't want to use him on the tank, so I need to make feet for him. Here is the first successful GS foot using thermoplastic (like blue stuff), green stuff and an AoBR nob's foot for a model. There are 3 failures in the bin and I still need one more foot! Ah well, it's all good experience I guess.

Battle report looks like great fun, thank you for sharing.

The Slann looks great, could the Ogres be Mournfang Cavalry?

New feet for the Nob looks good, keep trying and you will get the second one in know time. Then for extra teef you can start selling shoes to all the Orks.

Yes, that sounds right.

I can always use new teef. Actually I'm waiting for proper casting supplies to arrive, but this is just to get me used to the process with what I have at hand.

Little bit of a surprise for you guys today. A Mantis Warrior!

Fifty was kind enough to build and paint this noble marine for me as a gift (thanks man). I love banner bearers in an army but I hate painting banners, so I don't have any of my own. Now I have a beautiful one who will go proudly into my display cabinet until the next time he's called to action. That's pretty awesome in my book.

Thanks Syro_, glad you liked it. There will be more!

Fun news...
Thing 1 is home for the summer... that means I get to have my butt kicked by Necrons for a change!

I finally received the shipment of OOP Armorcast refinery towers and such from my ebay purchase. Laid everything out and I must say I'm pretty excited about it. Have started gluing everything together and begun priming. It's rare enough to find a single set of these refinery towers, let alone 5 sets... though the can topper things on the right are still around.

Along with them came a bunch of plaster cast, high-tech lab benches and control consoles. These are really cool and very well made. Not sure where they came from but now I'm torn as to whether to re-paint and keep them or re-paint and sell them as I think with a consistent look they'd be very attractive. Unfortunately I don't really have any "indoor" gaming layouts, so I'm not sure how much use I'd find for them if I kept them. They look about the right size for a normal sized human in 40k through.

Also got the spray-can work done on some sector mechanicus terrain. Nothing exciting, but good enough to use until I can get back to them and finish detailing. This is where all my industrial pieces start. Black primer, bolt-gunish metal spray, then a very light spray of reddish/medium brown to give it that neglected look. All spray-cans. Lastly I'll come in with some copper, bright silver (for non-corroding alloys) and rust/soot in powder form. It all goes together pretty quickly and is a good way to get things in playable form with a reasonable amount of work.

That's all for now!

If the pipelines got knocked over it would have been a true CAT-astrophy. I'll see myself out. Those pipes were always a lovely set, just always had something else to buy when I had a chance to get those. Surely they must be available to print, I'll have to look into that when I get home tonight.

I kit-bashed my own skitarii Marshal. The white primer is a bit spotty but it won't be visible after painting. The pose of the left arm is off a bit, but I didn't have anything closer. That is actually the same pistol, mine is just an earlier version of it. Sorry the images are so huge. I'll try him out once I get the new dex and if I like him I'll build another. I should have the parts for one more.

For comparison, here's the real thing.

Thank you gentlemen.

@Yorkright: Not sure. I won't get my codex until later this week. A lot of people are beating their chests over it but at least with what I've seen so far, I don't get it (both in watching codex reviews and battle reports). I think a pretty major nerfing was carried out. The army is far more complex to play now and bonuses that used to be army-wide are now single unit and tied to an HQ being near... meaning you have to spend a good deal more points on support HQs. A lot of rules got re-arranged... but in essence they didn't change much. In some cases in order to get a bonus, you have to also get a significant negative.... WTF?! What other of the new codexes does that?! Supposedly Mars Skitarii is a winner in the new dex... that suits me as that's primarily what I play anyway... but I'm very skeptical.

@graven: Thanks mate. I tried my best to copy the original with what I had on hand. I am pleased with the final result.

@Guardling: Thanks, me too! Probably start on that today.
