1:72 is often the "closest" to 25mm scale, although it will be small when compared to the burgeoning GW "heroic 28mm."

1:72 is far to small for 40K.

The closest 'real' scale IIRC is around 1:56 or 1:60... but with the exagerated proportions of 40K minis, 1:48 generally looks best.

I have a 1:48 Sherman Tank kit waiting to be assembled that is almost exactly the same size as a Leman Russ.

This is interesting, as I've grown sick and tired of the Space Marine fluff being way off the actual miniatures.....so I've started building "true" scale Grey Knights....the biggest problem, aside from the sculpting is the vehicles are now all too small.....with the new Space Marines it seems 1/35 would be more an appropriate scale ( at least for nicking bits!! )

Sorry if this is slightly off topic, do you guys think playing "True" scale Marines would be frowned upon at a local GW?

No they would not be frowned apon as I have a true scale SW army and everybody was fine with it. Hell I even won best army at a tournie with it.

Anyway I agree 1/48 is about right and 1/32 is just a bit to big.
