Subject: Re:The Infinity News and Rumors Thread - The 2017 Edition
One of our local Warcors got an advance copy of the collectors edition and posted some pretty good comparison shots. He's mostly into it for the models, so i'll quote his comments about them here:
gavin bateman wrote:Scale is infinity scale so can be used in infinity. The plastics are actually not bad. Clearly they aren't metal and some of the details are softer but a good painter could probably paint it so you'd barely notice. Issues on plastics soft face details and other fine areas and bends in weapons, which are an easy fix. Overall I actually think the quality of the plastics is really good.
gavin bateman wrote:Very few mould lines. I'm anal so would go over them, but really quite good. Let's put it this way: I was a vocal critic of the plastics. I was wrong. Not metal. But these are better than board game quality.
As for me, I'm down for a collectors edition - I want to use the metal versions of the four ladies in my long term Bakunin project and ideally I can sell off the four gents to someone else.

So many games, so little time.
So many models, even less time.
Screw it, Netflix and chill.

New Muyibs look pretty good. I already have all the Muyibs I need, but it is nice to see these. Here's to seeing the Asawira early next year. (one can hope) and the Hospitallers-- a January release?
We were supposed to see a Masai repack,no?
Next month the Druze Oh, and some other stuff
December Releases:
-Szalamandra Squadron
-Nexus Operatives
-Kanren Counter-insurgency group
-Druze Shock Teams (box)
-Neema Saatar, spitfire (the token Tohaa release for the year, apart from the half gorgos under the Avatar's foot/hoof/??? )
-repack of Hassassin Lasiq
-repack of Kazak Spetsnaz
Have we seen the Neema render?

The game looks really nice. I got to be part of the playtest and it was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to picking it up.
So, a review of the game, please?
Just quick thoughts:
It's very easy to learn and fast to play. After a few games we were playing full matches in about a half hour. I can't speak for the materials or the models since we were using a playtest kit, but the rules were solid and fun. Mixing and matching fighters and developing combos and tactics is a lot of fun and makes the game very replayable. I do hope that in addition to new characters they release more cards for existing characters. the existing characters each have cards associated with them, but having a few more options for each would be nice and would add some more variety to play. Overall its a lot of fun.

We were meant to get a Moran repack yes... maybe they’ve changed their mind and are actually gonna resculpt the damn things.
As for Neema, yeah:

I'm really excited for Neema. I haven't played Tohaa since N2, but I might start again. Also really excited for new Druze, Nexus Operative and Kanren even though I'm not currently playing any of these armies either.

So are you guys going plastic or metal for the Aristeia Release? Havent made my mind up yet, leaning towards deluxe edition but then money saved going plastics = more money to spend on other minis...

Go with just the plastics. These are game pieces for a board game. The few that can be used in Infinity-- Musashi and Major Lunah-- already have metal minis. Unless you really want the metal.
Thanks for the render ImAGeek. Hard to tell what I'm seeing on it. It looks like this version won't have the huge head problem of the current Neema. I reckon CB never provided the Hi res images?

For Aristia I'll get the general release. I actually don't really care for any of the models. The art for the game is old old school Infinity anime style, which I love and miss, but the models are the current 3D sculpted style. I like that too, but I don't think its a good match for this game. In particular, the faces for several of the characters look like old women and the poses are for the most part not as dynamic as I would have hoped (although I'm sure their role as game pieces limited more dynamic or interesting poses). They're all okay, but nothing I feel like I need in metal.

I'm getting the collectors release just so I have metals I can use as counts-as/proxy in infinity games, some of those sculpts are great~
And then I'll sell the spares, I guess.

The Aristeia! Official Webpage have been updated with lots of good information, the next 4 characters and organized play https://www.aristeiathegame.com/
The three booklets from the game is also downloadable from the site also.
Since it was a 'product diversity' attempt from a miniatures game company, I had some dumpster fire levels of low expectations for Aristeia.
But I watched a game of it on Youtube, and color me shocked and impressed.
It really looks like they did everything right in making the game:
Elevator pitch is super easy: "It is like X-Wing and Overwatch/League of Legends had a baby that was a board game".
ZERO miniature assembly, yet still look very good.
Mechanics were simple and followed board game conventions.
Rules and game structure was super simple to follow, and I was closely following and predicting plays before the end of the game after starting watching the game with zero knowledge, yet feeling like there is a ocean of depth to explore.
It was also interesting to watch, which many games are not always that way.
The deck building possibilities, especially where a given characters cards don't always apply just to that character, seem very interesting without being so heavy as to be a turnoff to someone not into that aspect.
I felt like the name wasn't a great call, but now knowing what it means, it is actually pretty reasonable (like once you know what hubris means, it goes from "weird" to "oh, that was a very cool and useful word that I just didn't know the meaning of").

I think rapidly getting expansions out - at least the first couple - is going to be key. I can see the game getting a little stale after a few weeks of just picking between the core 8 characters, especially if you're just working on the contents of one box and with always the same opponent.
Wonder what the rules are about duplicate players? Surely everyone is unique, but then what happens if you're picking a team in isolation?

I have to point out that despite what various videos say, the tactics deck does not get reshuffled.
Variation and synergy is key and the first few expansions are critical, there is enouph variety on the core box because each character has 4 cards they can add to the deck but add only two so there are quite a few combinations, but this game will be solidified with the first two expansions doubling the characters to 16.
So far rules allow duplicates on opposing teams, not within the same team and drafting as an optional way to select teams.

Holy cow, I just looked it up and I'm sort of flabbergasted that a company looking to expand into new a new market would use such a course and politically incorrect term in their game.
FYI: the definition is an insult referring to homosexual men. The english equivalent is likely auto-censored and even if it wasn't it'd get me a warning or banned.

Not surprising sadly. When they first showcased the Tech-Bees, they were called "Coolies".

If they used it in English there would have been a shitstorm.
But they haven't. And remember that regional context is a thing. I'm not Spanish, so I will wait for a Spaniard to chime, but there's a good chance that in spain the directly translated word doesn't carry the same weight or connotations as it does in English. Let's just wait to hear from a native speaker before knickers get twisted.
