The contrast between the snowy bases and the models themselves works very well.

Thanks Ezki, the snow just seemed right for them, adding to their coldness but still contrasting.
Not Online!!! wrote:The lords look awesome. The bases look great aswell, what did you use for the snow?

Thanks Not Online, the snow was just a few dollops of Valhallan Blizzard from GW. There’s apparently much cheaper ways to make it, but I went with the easy way!
BalerionTheBlackDread wrote:That looks very cool I love the simple colour scheme nothing too over zealous proves that less is most definately more.

Thanks Balerion, and welcome to my plog. I’m quite a fan of Simple colour schemes, they let the model do the work and unlike my 90s childhood creations they’re not offensive to the eye!

Well, I’m nearly at the end of the Necron showcase, and tonight Matthew I’m going to be a Skorpekh Lord (sorry for the obscure 90s UK TV reference). These guys are pretty cool, but i wish I’d have thrown something a bit more interesting that a lightning claw on the big guys base.

I think took a few individual snaps too. I like this one, he looks mean!

And one with their dad

The Lord really is a big mini! His base has a good weight to it with the Marine and built up dirt too. My next post will likely be the last of my Necrons for a while. I do have 3 tomb blades that I forgot to paint with this bunch and I quite fancy a few more at some point.

Thanks for looking, and I promise once I’ve gotten through these pics I’ll spend some time catching up on everyone else’s Plogs

Thanks youwashock, they’re a mean looking bunch I think.

Finally the time has come to show the last of the finished Necrons, and it’s a tasty croissant shaped snack; the Doom Scythe. It’s easily the biggest miniature I’ve painted (the BSF dice tower is probably bigger but that’s terrain not a mini) and it’s so big it’s hard to photograph and get everything in focus. So as a result I’ve taken quite a few pics:

I like this next one as it shows off the glowing circles on the rim of the craft

And the view from below (i turned up the brightness on the image and the stand partially disappeared!)

Here’s the base

And I quite like this one of the pilot, though I think the reflections mean he’s a bit out of focus

And with that the Necron project is over for now. The Tomb Blades will follow, but I want to finish the High Elf army first. I’ve done a wee bit more on the Assault Marines but haven’t got a snap of them, their metal work is done and I’ve started to block out the purple areas. Probably won’t get much done for a week or more as we have house guests this weekend. I’d like to get them done over the next couple of weeks though, so we’ll see how that goes.

Thanks for looking

They do indeed, swinging low to reap some panthers!

So unfortunately my arm isn’t getting any better, probably doesn’t help that I’ve not kept on with the physio… maybe I’ll be a good boy for the next few weeks? As a result my motivation to paint has been very low. I have however done some building and casting. The casting has seen me get some of the next batch of shoulder pad icons cast for some more Panthers. I think I still have about a dozen pads to do but it’s coming along. I don’t think I’ve done any pads for my terminators. So will have to make some new moulds for them. The building has seen me progress some of the Annual and White Dwarf Blackstone Fortress minis (plus a Nork Deddog I built using a spare Bullgryn). I now have all of the minis I need, and am keen to prime them ready for painting.

Despite the arm I have made a little progress with the Assault Marines for my Void Panthers. They now have their locus purple done and their genestealer purple highlights in place

It’s gonna be a slow plod from here I think!

Thanks for looking

He does indeed, though they’re more brothers

My arm is still giving me problems so progress is slower than my usual glacial pace on these. Still I managed to get all of the purple highlight done on their jump packs, then picked out all of the final edge highlights in Dawnstone on the blacks and purples.

That step is usually when I feel like I’m on the home stretch, just tidying up messy highlights, parchment and green accents left on the Marines themselves, then the bases are usually pretty quick too.

Thanks for looking!

With F1 back it was another Sunday evening watching a bit of the race whilst throwing some paint about. First was a bit of tidying of highlights, particularly the black. Next was the green, with some Emerald Green and washed Orc Flesh Wash on the cables, purity seals and lenses. I then finished up with Zandri Dust and Seraphim Sepia on the parchment of the purity seals

the keen of eye amongst you may have spotted that the Sgt is now sporting his loin cloth. Whilst painting his purity seal I realised he was missing it so grabbed one for him, sadly I was out of the tassel version so he gets the cloth version

Thanks JamesY, I can’t take full credit though as I based them on one of John Prins’ Christmas Armies but I went different direction with a few things including the complimentary bases. I had meant to do an army shot but didn’t get around to it, thanks for the reminder:

Keeping up the photo dump I finished the Assault Marines on Thursday night too, bumping me up to 46 minis complete for the year, not bad for the first quarter. They’ve turned out pretty well, not my best work but some of that is because the minis were second hand and I didn’t strip or spend too long prepping them… that’s my excuse anyway!

I quite like how they look from above, kinda reminds me of the BatRep maps of old.

Rather than starting on a new project I started sorting out of the to do list; some more Panthers of the Command squad, Character and Devastator squad variety. I need to do a few more shoulder pad icons before they can be primed.

When I did the Necrons I forgot the tomb blades, so they got a couple of dry brushes

I’ve also built all of the extra minis for my Blackstone Fortress collection

Some of the kits gave me a few extras; a flash Gitz kaptain and Nork Deddog, I have 3 other Gitz to put together too

Next up though will be the final piece for my High Elves, the Tiranoc Chariot

The chariot and horses need a re-prime but the charioteer will just get a bit of a touch up.

Phew! That was a long one, hope you like the mountain of pics. Thanks for looking

Thanks man, everyone loves a good Army shot

Tonight I touched up the Tiranoc Charioteer, nothing complicated, just more in keeping with the rest of my High Elves by getting rid of the golds and greens… not sure what teenage gobert was thinking… it certainly wasn’t about thinning his paints! The closeup really shows the roughness of the old casts and the lumpiness of the paint layers I applied

Absolutely awesome job on the Panthers.

I dunno, you managed to save that Charioteer just fine. Also some of those old metalpiles have a charme of their own. Oldschool kommandos f.e. keep up well with the new kommandos.

Thanks Not Online, I’m pleased to report, there’ll be plenty more Void Panthers to come! It feels like it’s been a while since I painted metal minis, so it’s good to be back with the heavy stuff.

I did a little more with the charioteer, tweaking his knifes scabbard to be silver and red. His shoulder pads and wrist guards got some red trim and his helmet plumage got a darkening wash of red. All of the red was using the Blood Red Speed Paint, it’s a really nice colour, and i managed to be neat enough to avoid any reactivation (the old citadel blue wash suffers pretty bad from this too though!).

I also did a bit of work on the chariot itself, it’s looking much better than its previous riot of colour. The horsies are much closer to the silver helms’ mounts. It’s also very refreshing working on effectively 1 model!

Nice lookin models gobert. The Coldcron scheme is really unique, the Void Panthers are suitably regal - I like the heat effect in the jump pack thrusters, the blue glow effect is too overdone these days.

What a sculpt on the charioteer, the giant dual crests are ridiculous and perfect. A lot of character in the old models, must be a joy to paint.

Coldcron, I love it, though it’s not unique as I borrowed large swathes of the scheme from an old John Prins recipe here on dakka. His bases were warm tones though, so perhaps his were more minty than Colcron! Glad you liked the glow on the jump pack, iirc they had a rocket like effect in the Space Marine video game so went with heat over the cool blue. Yeah, the Chariot is actually quite fun, I vaguely remember not enjoying painting it back in the day so have been pleasantly surprised this time around. And yep, his horses must’ve super strong to overcome the drag caused by his headdress!

Got some decent progress on the Chariot and horses tonight, intact I think the former is pretty much done. The horses got another highlight plus their saddle and bridle painted Celestra grey with an Ulthuan grey highlight.

I should be able to get the set finished at my next painting session, just the scabbards and metalwork on the bridles and it’ll be done. If I get five minutes during the day tomorrow I might also try to get the base started

Hey mate,

So good to see this blog still going! You've been super busy. The snowcrons look amazing - the subtle OSL is really lovely and looks great on the base of the Void Panther sergeant's base too. Crazy to see how far your painting has come since you started the blog - they look good even in super close up which is a rare feat. Love the oldhammer vibes too, that big hatted elf is like a double shot of nostalgia to the chest.

Thanks mate, good to see you back creating! Glad you like the snowcrons, their bases were heavily plagiarised from your cold bases. Thanks I was looking back at some of my old panthers, and also noticed an improvement in the finished product, thanks for bringing it up!

thanks Olthannon, I’m really enjoying the hobbying at the moment, probably helped with now having 3 large (by my standard) forces at or near completion. I can also report that the Elves are done!
BarryScott wrote:Void panthers on point, Crons looking pretty spicy as well. great stuff!

Thanks Barry, welcome to my plog! More Panthers and Necrons to come!

Last night I finished up the Tiranoc Chariot. I’d managed to sneak in a few short painting sessions to get the final details done and prep the base for painting. The base was the simple dry brushed glowing coals I started with my Chaos force and did on my Silver Helms. Started with a covering of Yriel Yellow, Fired Dragon Bright, Oxide Rust, Wild Rider Red, Evil Sunz Red, Khorne Red, Khorne Red/Black mix, and final heavy dry brush of Black. Getting all of the horses and the Chariot glued together and on contact with the base at the same time AND not leaning over too much proves quite a challenge.

For what was a quick paint job I’m pleased how the Chariot turned out. There’s a few spots I could and should tune up, but I’m really proud to have finally finished an Army for the first time! So proud I stayed up even later to take Army shots for the good people of dakka!

Plus a few moody shots

And that’s my 4th Edition High Elf Army complete, I have no more High Elves left to paint . Fear not though, as I now realise that the banners don’t really match the scheme too well and the Silver Helms don’t have any, so there will be more pics at some point. Come to think of it Eltharion is a bit too colourful, as are some aspects of the Silver Helms, so maybe this is a bit of a Forth Rail Bridge (Golden Gate for my friends across the pond) type scenario

Having taken the pics I decided to stay up even later and make some progress on my Void Panthers board too

The white debris is the new addition. I used my normal mix of adding some mixed consistency sand (from our old patio ) and tester paints… the only thing is that this one is a silk emulsion. Hopefully the acrylic paints stick to it well enough. I might throw some primer on to be sure and get consistent colours

Thanks for looking
