Hey everyone,

Thought I'd throw this up there, its an interesting battle, I'd love to get some discussion going about the new codex and some commentary on the battle.  Here's a short list of my observations after one battle.

1.  Lash is definitely dangerous beyond just about anything I've ever seen.  I feel like I didn't use it all that well and it still wreaked havoc on his army.

2.  Obliterators are still worthwhile in my opinion, the Plasma Cannon option is really deadly and makes up for the loss of the Heavy Bolter.  Still, they are much more fragile.  I would have deep struck them, but this was an Alpha mission.

3.  The Daemon summoning/icon rules are a real improvement over the old set.  In the "No Stompa" thread they say that the Codex Daemonica will be able to be allied with the CSM codex.  If that is the case, I must say that they did a good job of adjusting the rules so that Daemons are still viable.  I was able to drop the daemons in and get them into combat on the turn they arrived, but it wasn't a game breaking no brainer like it was in the old codex.  Still they should have just included the rules in the friggin codex.

4.  Bikes suck.

5.  Terminators are now much more viable. I look forward to using them more as they really are nice models and the new ruleset makes them much more flexible.  I feel like this particular game didn't really do them justice

Anyhow follow the link for the battle report.

What did you think of your normal CSMs? They seemed pretty damn underwhelming to me, just as everyone predicted.

Those Termies really made a mess just with their shooting, despite what you said about not doing them justice.

It looks like your lack of a second lash made itself felt.

I think that the normal CSM's weren't that bad.  One squad totally got hit by a concentrated fire prism blast and got unlucky on the morale check (rolled an 11 and a 12).  The second squad put a ton of rapid fire hurt on the guardians and the jetbikes.  There was a key moment when they could have totally used the bolt pistols, then charged into hand to hand with the bikes if it wasn't for the RAW.  Then they would have been in a better position to deal with the Avatar.  Old school CSM's were basically Las/Plas squads or upgraded with fancy skills, but in the new codex they are more like standard troops with a lot of different roles.   I gave this squad two plasma guns and a plasma pistol to use jumping out of their Rhino, but I feel like they are good troops for holding ground.  I assume at some point they will fix the RAW bolt pistol thing, and then they will be more worth the cost.

A second lash would have totally made a joke of the game.  If I had another sorcerer hiding in the building, he could have shoved the Avatar backwards like a schoolyard bully and tossed the jetbikes out of the way.  His Farseer was doing a good job of dooming units, so it wasn't an easy fight.  Still, when I play Eldar I'm going to keep my mind war/jetbike Farseer handy to deal with Lash sorcerers

Some pretty good observations, and about what we saw. We played our first game this weekend with the new dex.

I played a moderate Eldar list, vs a bud that has a nice EC army. He fielded 6 man units of EC tricked with all the noisy goodness, a greater daemon and 2 units of lesser (some other assorted things.)

he was rather disapointed with the greater daemon, in comparison to the lesser. They can get stuck in the turn they come in, while the greater is a little more vulnerable. The Eldar ended up winning the game, but it was a rather close match until the last turn. I think the lessers are going to turn out to be much more used than people have stated. They took out a dire avenger squad and a banshee squad in a rather nasty CC.

It was really a fun game. He didn't field lash, which could have made the game nastier, but it felt like a pretty even game.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

I know I b!tched heavily about losing my demonettes in the new book, but looking at it 'lesser demons' aren't such a bad trade off for the girls. No rending sucks hard, but I rarely rolled more than 1-2 rends with an 18 attak charge. No warp scream actually sucks harder, I used to use that to combo-charge so my lord / marines could get some action in before the enemy, but the army's guns are nastier now so I guess that's a trade. But otherwise, my 'girls' now have T4 but still have 2 attaks at S4, which is what I ended up using all the time when my rends failed. T4 means they'll stick around longer, and no instability means they won't pop in one turn (generally). And 2 points cheaper!

So I'm not dumping my ladies on eBay anytime soon, though I think I might run them in a 12-strong ball at first to push my assault range when summoned

I may be mistaken but I think you got cheated. If I remember right.... the avatar makes eldar units in close combat fearless.... not "always fearless".... so your shooting should have caused a panic check

Angron- crushing the theme and fluff of armies one horde at a time.
