Wonderful work on those characters mate. I don't think we'd see any imperfections in the models over your outstanding paint job.

Ah ha, finally something to nitpick on! Shouldn't there be upside down writing visible on the forward facing parchment for the Master of Marches? Looks like the cherub has got it by the middle. Usually I just go "damn, perfect again" but not this time! mwuahahahaha

Yeah thanks! Actually I think the heads on all four came out ok - they look a bit wonky perhaps with the double service studs?

LOL you know I went back to look at the model again and you're absolutely right! There should be writing on the back since it's one half of the huge wall of text the captain is reading. Hmmm my laziness is going to win out this time and I'll leave it as is and hope no one else notices

A quick update with a squad of the "newer" box of plastic vanguard veterans. I've magnetized all the arms for these guys so they'll be swappable but I doubt I'll want to go back to paint up the lightning claw arms for now so I'll call them done!

Great looking smashie boys! TH/SS is much better than LC anyways because of that survivability. Gorgeous exhausts on the jump packs and power weapon effects!

Big update this time around as I've got quite a bit painted since my last post. First up the the updated FW land speeder proteus:

I think this land speeder proteus is my very first heresy model which then led to the following:

And then:

The tracks on both tanks were the biggest pain in the butt to put together as it seems it didn't' really want to line up. In the end I ended up chopping a few track sections and milliputting the segments together.

And finally I decided to open one of my limited edition captains I've had sitting around untouched forever:

Being finecast, I expected the worst but thankfully the cast wasn't too bad and didn't require too much cleanup/prep work:

And the finished model:

Painted with reference to the 2nd ed boxcover:

Thanks Tom! Great to see you still kicking around here

I'm actually planning on an army photo shoot sometime soon as it's been almost 4 years since my last one and I've almost doubled my model point count (now just over 30k points).

Funny you should ask what's next...I was always planning on doing the Primaris stuff soon but with the recent completion of the Land Speeder Proteus and the retro BA Gamesday Captain, I've been on a nostalgia kick. Recently went on a massive hunt for older pewter models from eBay and got quite a few pounds of metal models now added to the backlog (and a few more in the mail coming next week). Will look to do some of those models as they're less detailed and quicker to paint before shifting gears back to the more "recent" first born plastics. No plans on stopping anytime soon and the army will only get bigger and better

Well it's been 5-ish years since the last time (https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/1620/313003.page#9050595) I got everything out and took a full army shot and that's exactly what I did today. Having taken the week off work and not being able to travel anywhere, I figured this would be the best time for such a thing.

Whole process was a bit of a pain given the size of the army now and from setup to teardown I think it must have taken me over 6 hours! I did try and shoot a short video and might post that at a later date once I get a chance to review/edit.

Stats of the collection as of this photo shoot:
Total Points (Battlescribe): 30,991
Total Models: 401

Last time I took an army shot, I used the Realm of Battle board which has since been sold - I've actually sold most of my terrain after my last move to downsize my hobby "stuff". Currently using the badlands FAT mat which works much better.

First off...here are the big overall army photos (open the images in a new window to see the full sized versions):

And to pay homage to the OG Scouts that started it all off back in 2007:

Those army shots are breathtaking, I would've been so scared accidentally stepping on something during setup
And great work on the old captain, I distinctly remember that art, even if I wasn't an active player back then.

Mostly, on my phone.

That's astonishing. So many incredible pieces. I like that you included those bits of scenery, adds a sense of scale. Just over 30k points? Not long till you reach the magic number of 40k

That's easily the most awesome looking BA army I've ever seen! Also loving those recent HH models you did, especially the RT era Land Raider looks gorgeous

I have to ask, how did you get that HH landspeeder to stay level in its flight stand? Did you have to glue it to the stand? I'm working on the same model myself and the engine blocks are so heavy I'm having a hard time getting the model to stay level without gluing it to the stand..

That's just ... epic. What's the largest battle you've played using the BA, points-wise?

(The tempered steel effect on the landspeeders' engines looks great, too.)

Either I'm missing it or shocked you don't have a Sanguinius up there. I know it's a 40k army but figured he'd be front and center (behind the scouts)

Thanks Viterbi! Funny you should mention it...as I was setting up and finishing off the arrangement I commented to my wife who was watching that if I tripped and fell into the middle of the pile I would cry ...not from the pain of the pointy swords/bits that would dig into my body but from the loss of models. Happy to report none of that happened and the models made it back safely into their storage cases/display cases after I was done

Thanks inmygravenimage! I'm pushing hard towards that magical 40k number! Should be there in another two or three years...

Thanks tauist! I'm actually going backwards and collecting more 2nd edition OOP models now. I was suppose to move onto the newer Primaris stuff soon but doing that land speeder has sparked my interest in some of the classic models.

For the stand I had the same issue and ended up giving on the normal one that came with it. Instead I got from my bases bits box another clear stand that has a ball and socket joint which was much tighter. I super glued the socket joint to the LS and the the ball stand sockets in securely and nicely into that. Just tried to find a source pic online for it but can't seem to locate one so I have no clue where I got that from...here's the pic of the socket joint: https://imgur.com/a/AzvVHRg

Thanks MobileSuitRandom! The largest points battle I've played using this BA army is...drumroll...0. I'm actually just a hobbyist collector/painter for now so never actually played the game.

Thanks Gits! I have the Warlord waiting for assembly and painting. Should be part of my road to 40k points and will be featured in the next few years

Ah yes, I do have Sanguinus and the Kabandha base waiting for assembly and painting. Wanted to practice my NNM gold a bit more before I work on him as I want him to be done very well.

That's incredible, such a huge army and it's all so well painted. With most collections it's quantity or quality, but you've managed to pull off both - you should be really proud! Also I know your pain regarding setting up for the photo - my Biel-Tan is a third that points count, and they took me absolutely ages to set up and put away the last time I took some army photos.

Thanks Bellerophon! Seems like forever to get to this stage but having them all out for a group photo was definitely worth the effort (both in setup and years of assembly/painting). Hope to get to the warlord build/paint sometime next year!

A spectacular achievement. Is it just bit tempting to do another 10K points so you field 40,000 points of Warhammer 40,000?

Thanks...40k points is definitely the next goal and should be too hard to hit. By then I'll be into my primaris backlog and it'll only grow bigger from there!
