I was just curious if anyone still uses dreadnoughts anymore?  If so, what kind and with what upgrades.  I have a Plaguemarine dread but it never really saw much use

I use one in my black templar list with twin linked lascannons and CCW- addssome much needed punch long range fire power, however I find that the extremely low number of attacks really hapers dreads.

I'm going to try drop podding in 3 furiosos now the new BA list is out, should be quite entertaining.

Siege dreadnoughts.

If you have wisdom of the ancients, these are quite nasty in plural.

Otherwise in apocalypse, this will be fun as well, in plural.

Dreadnoughts are underrated, especially venerable dreads. Smoking ven dreads are a pain to take out. Easily worth the extra 20 points to make them venerable. Plus, you get vet skills with the ven dreads. Tankhunters FTW.

Wisdom of th ancients is your friend.

But you play chaos, so you'll find dreads on the shelf more than you will on the table, sadly.

dreads are sweet and i use 3 regularly

one fire support and 2 podding.

although i must say they should always be venerable(but i play dark angels so they all are even though i don't get the vet skills anymore    )

chaos wise defilers are basically super dreads so technically now that they have moved dreads to elites you could have 3 dreads and 3 defilers in 1 army if your a dread lover. also the FW chaos dreads are friggin beatiful models

I've always loved the dreadnaught models for chaos, but never felt compelled to make one unfortunately. They have great background too, pity it translates into fairly crappy rules. I'd use defilers, but I'd want to convert them to high hell first. Thinking Leman Russ chasis somehow incorportated into the legs for a proper "stalk tank" look.

I don't leave home without two, I even take them shopping with me on weekends

My usual setup when fielding the two is ccw and lascannon, ccw and assualt cannon.

I often take a third dreadnought as I don't use terminators as they don't suit my gaming style. The third is setup the same as one of the above depending on what else is in the army, most often another ccw, lascannon.

All have extra armour(though this may change with the cost now being 15pts for blood angels)

I'm throwing a couple into my mechanized marine list. When there are 9 other tanks on the table, they get targeted much less. That, and firing 2 main weapons on the move is so beastly. I've toyed around with the CCW and it never really has an impact. I suppose you could try and get it into CC w/ a dakkafex or some such, but against normal troopers, it's pretty worthless. It's hard to decide between asscannon and lascannon but I'm going with las to compliment my HB razors.

If it makes sense, then it's not RAW.

I use 3 drop pod dreads with ac/heavy flamer in my drop pod list and they do alright. Better than pods of veterans or devs.

In drop pod lists above 1850, they're basically required. With x-tra armor and a flamer, they run 150pts in a pod, and are always a good time. They also get better in bulk!

I have one in my Black Templars army. Since my army's CC-Heavy, I kit him out for shooting:

Venerable, Assault Cannon, Missile Launcher, Tank Hunters, Extra Armor, Smoke Launchers - 153pts

He's a monster in smaller games where my opponents can't take enough heavy weapons to drop him - the Venerable upgrade is worth its weight in gold, especially when you pop smoke. Glancing hits that re-roll on the damage table are quite nice.

Everyone has different preferences, but I find them to be most effective as a mobile fire base, moving with my forces and providing the necessary light anti-tank and antipersonnel firepower that is highly lacking amongst my troops. Unless you have a decent amount of armor, I wouldn't try to make them CC (except when podding), as your opponent will divert fire towards them if you get too close to their lines, as the AV12 means most armies need to take upgrades in order to even touch them in CC.

They're easily my favorite vehicle in the Space Marine arsenal, right up there with Vindicators.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling, which thinks that nothing is worth war, is much worse. The person, who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

Longshot pursuaded me to try out six in pods, which is quite fun. Tends to win big or lose big.
