Gobert's gubbins, indeed! That compartment is chock full of them, and they look awesome! This ride is going to knock the enemy's socks off.

Oh yeah, that interior is awesome! It's kinda sad that it will be largely hidden now that the tank is assembled, but at least there's photos. A Land Raider is the only tank I've ever painted, and it was when I was in my teens in mid-noughties. No photos of the carefully painted interior, as good quality digital cameras weren't a thing back then...

I think black is the right choice for the exterior. Though if you want inspiration for the gold, PLASMO recently made a Custodes Land Raider painted with actual gold!

Hehe! Yeah, there’s plenty of gubbins in this Land Raider! It’s been great fun and I’m excited to get more progress on it.

Thanks mcmatilla. It’s a shame you don’t have the pics, a flash light and removing the top hatches might reveal the details I suppose? Though some of the viewing angles are a bit tight! That gold Land Raider is awesome, I felt the pain of trimming, filling and sanding the seam at the top of the sides again though!

Yesterday I embraced the fact I’m not at work today and smashed out some work on the outside of the Raider. The main surfaces got a thin coat of Vallejo Black to try and reduce some of the roughness that the primer left. Not sure it worked, but it was worth a try!

My Leadbelcher bottle seemed to have dried up as the neck had split. I managed to rescue a good portion of it with flow improver and airbrush thinner and then I decided to mix it with my old Boltgun metal. It turned out pretty well and has a nice consistency now, something I often struggle to find with metallics. In the end it went on pretty well although doing the tracks was pretty time consuming!

I went to town on the gold embellishments, getting plenty of the raised areas and recessed shapes along with the iconography. I think I has a bit of a Black Legion look which is exactly what I was going for!

I then forgot to do the purple areas and jumped straight in to the Nuln Oil wash. This was my first time using the new formula and honestly, it was pretty good. It even seems to have a nice smell! The only downside is it pooled a fair bit (that was probably more on me not watching out for it) and some of the finer recesses didn’t get particularly dark (mainly on the printed Panthers). I can probably fix both of those later on with a bit of sanding and delicate brush work when I tidy up the black.

Really pleased how she’s looking so far, pretty much how I imagined and I’m surprised how much I’m enjoying painting it. The Land Speeder was a bit of a chore so I was a bit worried this would be too. Maybe it’ll be the edge highlighting that does for me!?

Thanks for looking

Beautiful work on the internals of the LR, mate. Will be a proud moment every time you unload the termies. It's looking a treat already with the gold trim & boltgun parts. Good luck with the edges...there are so many!

The tomb blades look great as well, you've really unlocked a winner with that cold metal scheme. On a painting unrelated note I think it's really funny how GW sizes their flying bases - just like Eldar jetbikes the small bases look so tiny underneath them!

Also can't wait to see the Labyrinth minis painted up - what a nostalgia hit.

Keep it up mate & thanks for sharing.

Thanks Olthannon! I’m honestly really enjoying the Land Raider, so I can highly recommend getting one!

It really is a shame the internals are hard to see, but it was fun and the internet has evidence that I did it!

Thanks tzurk, I’m already dreaming up the new display shelf it’ll live on with matching Terminators disgorging from its lavishly gubbinsed interior. . The tomb blades were I nice quick project, and yeah, the flying base sizes are a bit funny!

Another evening of painting got the steel all dry brushed; Boltgun Metal followed by Mithril Silver. Went back and picked out all of the rivets with Boltgun Metal. I then painted all of the bits I wanted to be purple with Liche Purple. Recess shaded the purple areas, all of the gold panels and the exhaust cooling jacket with more Nuln oil. Used some black Templar contrast on the narrow bits of the printed icons. Tidied up the gold areas with Retributor Armour (forgot the sponsons ). Then finished off by tidying up the black areas on the left hand side of the Raider.

I’m loving how it’s coming together! Can’t wait to do some more work on it!

Thanks for looking!

Indeed, it’s a classic look!

Well, I’ve been creeping closer with the odd hour here and there this week and I capped it off by watching 2 Movies (Air & Drive, both really enjoyable ) tonight and finishing off the Land Raider! The edge highlighting was quite a slog, but I’m satisfied with the result. I then had a bit of fun with the view ports and various lenses before finishing off with the lights. It’s stupid late now, so I’ll just attach the pics and fix it in the morning

Thanks for the encouragement along the way!

That would be cool to see, would it be in Deathwing or Greenwing colours? Or some other chapter? I was surprised how motivated I was to paint this, much more enjoyable than the Land Speeder I did.
amazingturtles wrote:Nice to see the Void Panthers are still going strong!

They are indeed turtles, still plenty more to come. I’ve got a few characters, command squad and Devastator squad sat ready to prime. I also have 3 squads of Terminators needing some Chapter icons too. With all this talk of Sternguard being Last Chance To Buy I’ve been low bidding on eBay but also tempted to convert some Dark Angels Company Veterans. I think shoulder pads are the main missing items to do that successfully so we’ll see!

Yesterday I had a little play, settling the Land Raider in to its temporary home on the Panthers display shelf (it’ll move to a new one with the first company when I make it). I should take some more pics of it individually too I suppose

You can barely see the Land Raider in this, but I like how the running marine is pointing out a target for his brother

I tried out a few background pics for this, but it was hard finding a decent one. This seemed to fit the best but its resolution is a bit low. If anyone know of a cool 40k city picture that’s at street level, please send me a link.

Thanks for looking

Thanks Olthannon, I’m very pleased with it, need some elite troops for it now!
youwashock wrote:I love all of that. Great shots, gobert.

Thanks youwashock, it’s what the Hobby’s all about right?

After no success low bidding on eBay and deciding against spending almost as much on bits as complete squads we’re going for I decided to convert up my Dark Angels Company Veterans to Sternguard. Some of the iconography removal was tricky, but I managed to clean it all up. I’m actually quite pleased how well removing the sword from the chest eagle went and I even managed to find a tiny skull to replace it too .

Not content with these fiddly bits I decided I didn’t have enough Crux Terminatus (I think that’s what it’s called). So I found a few skull crosses from the Venerable Dreadnought kit and filed them thinner and curved their back before softening them with poly cement to fit the shoulder pad curvature

Still not content with their blingness their back packs all got toppers from different banner poles. I think my favourite might be the Blood Angels winged skull with its blood drop removed. The 2nd Edition backpack also had its circular bit at the back removed and replaced with a small small crux terminatus (also from the Ven Dread kit).

Something my normal marines have been lacking of late, they all got a mix of grenades and pouches. Then in terms of load out they all got a Combi weapon with the Sergeant getting a power sword. I even managed to find an array of pointing hands in my Blood Angels bits bag!

Quite a long post with only 1 pic, but I’m pleased with what is essentially a free squad of Sternguard made from bits I had no other use for! They might even get bumped up my painting queue I’ve enjoyed building them so much! That wind be for a while though as we go on holiday to Rhodes for half term

Thanks for looking!

Just look at that! What brilliant setpiece photos, Gobert, well done!

I think painting your vehicles in black has really paid off - they are really complimentary to the bling bling of the Panthers without looking blindingly garish.

Sternguard cobblepot looks good - I really enjoy cobbling together units from leftovers

Wow, that Land Raider turned out amazing!

In my early hobby years when I was jut about to transition to 40k from Warhammer Fantasy, I could not make up my mind on which army to start.
The Land Raider along with the classic Dreadnought were one of the coolest models in my opinion.
It's something about the boxiness, the weaponry and the front hatch, that you simply can't beat.

I remember eyeing them in the catalogs over and over, thinking that I would definitely go with an army that could have multiple Land Raiders (like I could afford them back then).
Then something snapped, and I became a Xenos scum after all.

Anyway, looking at the action shots, especially the first one with the speeder in the background, makes me remember why I thought that way.
Really freaking cool. Thanks for that.
