there was alot of talk of people making current fighter jets model kits into conversions for APOC.  So i decided to do it.

Anyway i will actually not convert the actuall plane very much.  I will be using a  A7 corsair as it looks suitablly chunky and smal.  My fav are the F14 (yes Top Gun is one of my all time fav films) and the F4 phantom but they are to big and double seaters.

So i have done the cockpit with the marine.  Alot of the detail will be hidden but atleast i know its there.

some progress. the kit was hard to build as it was a cheap kit and the parts did not fit well. I have a hasegawa kit of the same model but was un willing to experiment on that.

Anyway i have primed it white and intend to spray it red. the lines are red gore and fingers crossed will show up darker on the panels lines. I really dont know what i am doing at the moment. I know how to weather stuff as i have read up on it but its better i try my own methods with what avalable.

Hmm seems like nobody is interested in this project.  Oh well.  anyway i will keep posting to the invisible people.  Madness creeps up in stages so i am told.

I will do flames on this thing now.  the weapons are done.  Just the flames ands a few minor details left to do then a matt coat of vanish and then the part i am dredding, the brown wash over the panel lines.  If this plane is going to F up anywhere thats were it will be.

Try using a lacquer or enamel spray as a sealer coat before you wash the panel lines. At least then if you F-up badly you can clean up the offending mess with some acrylic thinner. Either that or try using a watercolour wash.

Oil washes look great, but the potential to melt the paintjob is massive as turpentine will dissolve the acrylic paint.

Cheers

interesting stuff there Beef. Very nice job on the conversion, even if it is a cheap kit.

Nice work on the marine.

However, feels like a 40k figure in a modern day plane. Doesn't feel "40k", just feels like, "I'm an F16 with future weapons". Imperial stuff is really boxy, and I think that's what gives me this feel.

its true imperial stuff is quite boxy.  WW" planes would look more suitables, especially some of the boxiar ones but i like this plane so i used that instead.    the first layer of the flames has been put on with thinned foundation paints.  these will be painted over with reds and oranges and yellows.

In all honesty Beef I think it lookd better with just the black flames without all the added colour.

Yeah, so moved. Black flames ftw. Great conversion otherwise, though.

I agree Black flames look much better. Cant really say it looks great as I have not seen this sort of thing done before.   I will reserve judgement until its finished.

Anyway the model is near done. Its been sprayed with matt varnish. I will now attempt the lining of the panels. Wish me luck.

the flames turned out ok, Not great but they will do considering how little time i spent on them.  I know black would have been better but next time.

You may lose the black flames against the blue (ultramarine) Beef.

It would've been better against the red.

So what would people suggest? The same colour flames?? I know yellow and blue complement each other well?

I agree, the black really stands out. The colour might work, but the black is nice looking in the other pic.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I hate wide threads, can you stack the pictures instead please.

The fighter loks too 'modern'. Iwould saw off the tail about 1cm back from the wing, nice and vertical. Then place card over the end and a huge exhaust in the middle.

then take the tailfin and place it further forward.

Then add chunky rivets everywhere, add skulls to taste.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
