Totally agree that the ASOIAF models really have improved over time and I already like them from the start. The slight scale issues (e.g. compare some NW unit models with Baratheon Heroes) are the only complaint I have, but the details are always awesome.

From the previews I like the Karstark Spearmen the most, from a heroes perspective of course Coldhands on the Elk is awesome.

life.

I'm definitely interested in the silenced men, the baratheons, and all of that preorder stuff listed previously (golden company, etc)

Granted, I use AsoIAF minis for AoS with conversion and re-basing, so your mileage will vary to mine.

Now if I could just find a stockist in the US that keeps decent stock at decent prices.

Miniature Market will probably be the best bet. As they are constantly buying all the trash that CMoN is willing to part with, I think they are getting first dibs on any good items as well. Plus they have a community of ASOIAF that play at their Manchester store.

I buy a lot of stuff from MM, but I don't do them for Ice and Fire, they don't even give you a full 20% off. Game Nerdz and Boardlandia are who I use. Really, it's good to price check MM no matter what the product, their discounts are rarely the best.

I love the new Karstark spearmen, I wish the game featured more commoner units. The Baratheon starter set has 48 troops who are all more heavily armored than most any knight in The War of the Roses, I think it's a little overboard.

MM is just around the corner from my house, so I lose out on ordering stuff from them because I have to pay the local taxes to boot. The nice thing is they are usually in stock and since they carry so many ranges I can get most everything I need/want. Plus they have sales whenever the MAPP pricing is lifted (or on Amnesty days) and you can get some good deals then. Also their store always has dinged and dented boxes from shipping which are usually 40-60% off because the cardboard box is damaged, but those are in store only specials.

ASoIaF is a weird one for me. The sculpts are pretty good, but let down by the PVC. At the same time, there's so faceless nobodies to the game that I'm not sure I'd actually WANT them to be detailed, as I can pretty quickly paint anything to a reasonable standard without a lot of fuss.

Have you seen any of the newer releases in hand? They have improved a lot over the initial Kickstarter batch of Stark and Lannister stuff.

Absolutely. Just got Mother of Dragons not too long ago along with some of the other new NW and Targ releases. They're perfectly serviceable, but none of them stand out as anything I care to display. They're just typical PVC, though I do appreciate that the weapons aren't at all bendy and really help give the big blocks of troops are sharp look.

I think they are a notch above typical PVC, but tastes vary! For my level of painting they are a godsend. Individually they aren't resin/boutique plastic level, but they compare favorably to mass market plastics like Frostgrave and Oathmark.

I definitely agree they aren't as good as GW plastics, but I'd say they are 70% as good at a third the price, so they work for me.

Not trying to convince you of anything, just offering an alternative perspective for those that haven't seen them. The ABS weapons and slightly larger scale really do set them above typical KS big name PVC minis imo, but I agree they aren't display pieces.

They are definitely better than most PVC. CMON is probably the best in that particular business. It's just still PVC though which I rarely find impressive, but certainly functional for games with a large number of models. Like I said, I wouldn't want to be painting a super detailed horde of NW Brothers (though the Sword Bros are very nice, fwiw) but I do find myself disappointed that the quality of iconic characters isn't a little higher.

Zombicide Ghostbusters set images doing the rounds on BGG and Reddit. These might be show exclusives hopefully they get the TMNT treatment release wise.

New Jamie sculpt. Strong tease of separate Stark/Lannister starters with updated sculpts?

I believe new Lannister and Stark starters were leaked on the upcoming release list a while back.

I think there was a hint that they might actually contain new units rather than those in the original starter.

I missed any leak that mentioned new starter sets, and haven't seen it talked about on forums when it would be relevant.

Interesting to think about, could they try to get away from that over-sized, under-selling starter box by not making it anymore? And if they did would Lannisters or Starks sell very well individually either? I suppose if you made new 3 new units for each, and then used that as a way to get their releases into stores, it might work well, the many individual unit boxes all coming out for 7 different factions are kind of clogging up shelves.

Assuming it's not new units, I'd guess the dedicated starter sets would have updated sculpts - compare Karstark Spearmen to Sworn Swords and how far the models have come - whilst the existing SvL box remains at it's current price point, but is stuck with the current ones.

MM has been horrible with preorders of all kind. ASOIAF my last order was about 4 months behind the release or so (barathon heros 1 and 2) and my Mother of dragons and attachments were rediculously long. Same goes for their Star Wars Legion, Marvel Crisis Protocol and Fallout Wasteland Warfare. I had to stop ordering from them because I have like 6 orders pending items still and that was after 6 months they canceled one item. Their business and customer online support sucks recently. I have asked them to redo orders just to get something shipped as they had parts of 12 orders of mine just pending some for almost a year after release just waiting for an item. They need to fix their orders or let you modify them or something. It is like they sit in limbo until you contact them and cancel some stuff just to get some stuff shipped.

Gamenerdz is no better. I can honestly say it is getting really hard to find an online place who can even do any type of preorder.

That reminds me that I have a MM order that’s been waiting almost two years. While it contains some CMON stuff, I’m pretty sure the problem is a Shadows of Brimstone item. Seems like everyone is having trouble getting product to stores.

Oh, and my Ankh pledged arrived. It’s glorious! The gods and monsters came out really well, and the humans are about the same quality as the Rising Sun minis, which makes me happy. Well, except for this guy:

Gonna guess that CoVid's disrupted production of our non-essential plastic army men, and shipping has made cheap overseas labor not-so-cheap anymore. CMON continues to delay the PM for their Zombicide: Undead or Alive KS.

Congrats on the limited edition invisible figure, though.... :/

Seeing it constantly be on deep discount is my main metric. Stuff that people claim is very popular and selling like hotcakes never seems to be on deep discount, and stuff I don't see people raving about sometimes is. If it don't work like that, well, I don't know. It was the Kickstarter product too, the biggest fans start off their gaming experience already owning it before they go into stores to get more.

While improved sculpts would be nice, I'm not sure I about the economic viability. They'd be asking people to buy the same thing over again, when likely they have enough as it is. Sort of like when they announced Legion would be changing to sprues one of the designers made it sound like they would be going back and redoing previous released units on sprues now and all the Legion Youtubers I had repeated this like it was going to happen, and I just thought there was no way. These products sell the most when they come out, after that sales fall to a trickle. Why spend all that money redoing tooling when you can make something new I don't have 4 units of already?

During the height of it's popularity I got Gloomhaven for under $90 on MM. Sometimes it's about having a loss leader to pull people into your sale. Something needs to be pretty desirable for that to work.

Since it's PVC, it's generally produced in large orders. Discounts don't really surprise me. There's almost always unsold stock with PVC.

Popular unit boxes have sold through multiple waves.

The starter shows up cheap occasionally because they gave away a bunch of boxes at some convention to get things kicked off. I rarely see the starter for less than $100 USD shipped these days.

You can occasionally get them for less on eBay, but not at retail.

This really is a game more people should try. The range is pretty large, and you rarely have to go more than 6 months without something being released for your army.
