Last year at GW stores you'd get the free novella, postcard sized art cards and a selection of cheapo pin badges, both sets depicting the books on (re-)release that weekend, so probably the same again this year.

edit.

Last year's free swag, this'll probably be posted a week before the event on various social media pages of participating stores:

I got a leaflet for the event from my local GW, and along with the already talked about stuff like the books, badges and the Models, there's what appear to be 2 bookmarks and one of those wristband things, but I've not seen any mention of those anywhere else. I hope those aren't what the extras are compared to badges and art cards last year had.

I liked Kobo, but not getting it from BL to the app. Thankfully, this makes it much easier to get the mag.

Hopefully, this leads to buying rulebooks too(I uploaded a free sample of CSM II, so this can be possible)

They've pushed the release dates of the upcoming two horror novels, Sepulturum and the anthology novel, back by a week, to the 7th of March.

I'm guessing there's still no mention of any free art cards or badges like last year, then? A shame if so as a few events have had art cards over the past year or two, thought they'd have them again.

Either later this week, at the latest on Friday. I'm keeping an eye on my local GW store's Facebook page, just in case they share something but I kinda doubt it, as they see books as something they shouldn't bother all that much with in the first place.

GW appears to have forgotten to mention the new book and subscription for the stories for the week. Also am I right that there's no confirmation yet of the stories in the free printed book that they are giving away for online orders/in shop? Ergo if they are repeat stories or unique to that book (thus two sets of short stories from the week).

Last year they didn't announce the short stories for the free novella either, it was a surprise until you had the book in hand.

Chances are it'll mostly be repeats again of eshort exclusives.

I'm a bit unsure as to what the actual exclusives are for the day. Obviously there's the books that specifically mention being for the day on the cover and once those are sold out they're gone, but I don't know if anything else is for that one day only. Last year I thought the Sister Superior was a limited item but it seems that turned out to just be a normal thing that's still available.

There's a print on demand Skaven Lord book from the Old World setting (which considering Skaven basically catapulted their main city into the underside of the Realms means its mostly pretty accurate for them even now). I'd expect that to last for perhaps a week on order and then vanish. Though as its print on demand, at least it won't run out of stock.

I believe there's also Sabbat Worlds Crusade lore books translated into German/French.

There's two characters up for grabs too, though no idea if they will be short or long term

I think a lot of the exclusives tend to be things like hardback books sold until they run out of stock.

The characters will be permanent additions to the store. Chances are they'll sell out on the day itself and be out of stock for quite some time to come, but they will make a return, just like the previous BL day exclusive minis.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Was it said anywhere whether the Loathsome Ratmen POD will be hardback or softcover?

Asked my local store on Facebook about if there was any free stuff along the lines of the Art Cards or button badges of last year, and they said the Bookmark and wristband are instead of those this year...Free stuff is still nice, but yeah, that's quite a bit of a downgrade I think...

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Well based on comparing products from NZ to UK, looks like Loathsome Ratmen will be about 15 quid, which means deffo a softcover.

I'm kind of hesitant to buy it now - cheap(by GW standards) print on demand softcover means it'll probably be perfect-bound(ie, loose individual pages stuck together with glue), so I doubt it'll last very long if you actually read it more than once and as a cheap softcover it's not really fancy-lookin' shelf material either.

What's galling to me is this kind of thing is exactly where I want to spend the extra for hardcover with proper binding and fancy faux-leather with foil lettering, so it'll last decades and look nice when I'm not reading it, but GW seem insistent that they're only going to bring back these classic background books for a new print run in the cheapest & lowest effort way they can get away with.

I'd even happily wait longer to get the book if they did a proper preorder for a fresh run of quality hardbacks.

Unfortunately you’re about 15 years to late for the limited edition hardback. Keep your eyes open I bet there’s going to be a reprint of the Vampire Counts Liber Necris book out soon.

I don't want "limited edition" anything either. There's a middle ground where they just make a nice, basic hardback with a foil-stamped faux-leather cover for these kinds of books - neither cheap tat, nor hideously expensive and extremely limited availability.

What you’re describing is GW standards for a limited edition codex. In most cases GW and BL have a foil-stamped, faux-leather bond, hardback limited edition and or a normal hardback first print, then a later soft print edition either perfect or burst bond. After those sell out and if they deem demand if high enough there might be a perfect bond print on demand edition.
We’ll have to see what the next print run of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade book is going to look like. Will it keep the all of the hard cover, foil stamping, edge gilding, and ribbon divider like most limited editions or will it have less?
As for this book I haven’t decided if I’m going to get it. I got a copy of both the limited and soft bond when they were first released, but I kind of like this Jim Henson Dark Crystal style cover.

I love nice limited editions of books. And at the risk of some Games Workshop higher up seeing this, the Black Library ones are cheap in comparison to other deluxe editions I see. I wanted a copy of The Scarlet Gospels by Clive Barker but the £400 price tag cooled me off somewhat.

Far as I can tell store exclusive is a bookmark and wristband. Everything else is sold online as well.

Of course for products of fixed limited stock with no recast/print (like the special edition books); online might run out of stock whilst some retailers might still hold physical stock. So its worth calling around if you want something specific.

Yeah, I don't care what GW standards are, I'm talking about what I'd like to see, and my opinions on "limited edition" guff aren't a secret(they're not positive, you'll be shocked to learn).

GW as a company seem to have largely missed the point of PoD as a concept - they treat it like their "made to order" thing, a very short-term preorder for a single run of product. What it's meant to offer is a way for individual customers to pay a modest premium for access to a product when it's convenient for them to purchase it, and there's no reason at all it can't be done for "fancy" versions save for GW's own fetish for artificial scarcity and their desperate desire to be seen as making "collectibles" rather than products.
