Oh, here and there.

I'm going Dark Eldar pretty soon, and I've been figuring out what I want to field. I'm going with an under-water theme, with blues and silvers, rebreathers on the bare heads, etc. I'm also trying to pick good, themed models for a dark, oceanic look. For example, my warp spawn will be the Screamers of Tzeench from the WFB store. For those who don't want to look it up, heres the link. (http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.us?do=List_Models&code=303068&orignav=301030&ParentID=251196&GameNav=13)

I've always hated the Talos model, particularly the heads adorning the front. I would end up shaving them off, because in a universe of thousands of worlds not every Talos would have mounted a SM helmet on the nose. Even if it was gone, it's an ugly model (Sorry if you like it) that sort of is overshadowed by the rest of the army.

Anyway, I was thinking of using the dark Elf War Hydra, (http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.us?do=List_Models&code=302020&orignav=22&ParentID=212778&GameNav=13) with Balrog wings green stuffed on. That would accommodate the skimmer rule, the 5 heads would explain the big shooty gun, and the teeth could explain the d6 attacks. Rule wise, it's all modeled appropriately, it costs the same, and I think it'll look nicer.

For the wyches, while the GW model is great, I like the Daemonettes of Slaanesh better, and they also aren't too far-fetched to field, and fit the aquan theme better. (http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.us?do=List_Models&code=303061&orignav=301030&ParentID=251193&GameNav=13)

So, what do you guys think? Would these proxies be allowed in a tounament? It's all GW merch, it's just a matter of what army it's from. I happen to like some Dark Eldar models, not so much with the others.

Any help is of course appreciated. Thanks guys!

I would suggest getting the WFB Witches as Wyches - much better models, and nobody would ever gainsay you from using those.

Oh, here and there.

They're cool, but the hair drives me nuts. I don't want medusa running around. Also, they have two blades. You need a S. pistol, right? I guess I could model that, but I'm not predicting too many bitz. The Daemonettes though, I can green stuff one claw into a S. pistol.

Personally, I would wait until the end of this year and see if the new codex comes out. Since the entire range is goign to be redesigned it would suck if you went with something only to find out everything is way, way cooler looking when the new codex comes out.

Edit: this would be better in the modelling forum

If you use it against Tau you should make a diarama of the Talos fighting a new crisus suit-mechagodzilla, while in the distance Tau brown and water caste civies are fleeing Tokyo er, the city.

I love the idea myself. I can't stand the talos model, the fuirst time I saw it I thought it was a joke.

I have to disagree slightly Yakface. This is a unique concept. As long as our guy understands /models it so it can be adjusted, that any new codex might change the Talos, then I would say go for it. It sounds like most everything is converted to a central theme.

Of course I'm the idiot modelling an entire demon army using nid rules, knowing full well some sort of demon codex is theoretically coming out next year.

If I ever did Dark Eldar, nearly the entire army would be conversions from the Dark Elves line in WHFB plus bits from the DE Warrior Sprues.

The only thing I'd say for the Hydra as a Talos is to look for a way to mount some kinds of guns on the thing. Other than that, go for it.

I always thought the brass scorpion was a very good representation of the Talos.  You would need 2 defiler kits and the wings could still be the skimmer rule.

Just an idea.

Cooler than the previous models?

I would wait also. I have always like the rules and fluff for the DE but like everyone else cannot stand some of the models. Raiders look good but are to big and spikey and are a bugger to transport. I like the bikes but that's about the only model that looks good in the line.

I always thought the combination of a defiler and carnifex kits would make up a suitably powerful and live looking monster.  And heck if necron tomb spiders can just fold there legs under and be "hovering" I think you could do the same, and have an excelent looking model too.

Oh, here and there.

Thanks for the help you guys. In response to yakface, even if the whole army is redesigned, If I go with the custom stuff, I'll still have a good themed army. I already have a Guard army, though only half decently painted, so this DE army is going to be my non-newbie army. I sort of rushed through my Guard, just to play with it, but since I have that one to play with I can do a good job on these guys.

Oh, does anyone know where to get these kind of bases?

And are they legal, cause they must to be a bit bigger than the normal bases.
Thanks again guys!

The Talos's I have have the small flying base. You should be able to use that base without much problem.

I think the Talos usually comes with the large flying base. Probably the best solution for play is to use that, or a slightly larger/more solid one (like the dreadnought base, which is 60mm), with the Talos still mounted on the flying rod or another rod to keep it floating.

The base in the picture you linked to appears to be a Privateer Press base. The large one they have is the 50mm round, which is the standard for Heavy Warjacks and Heavy Warbeasts in that game. It would probably work quite well for a Talos.

You can buy them 5 for $5, from PP:
