From Warseer:

A little birdie, that works at bugman's bar, told me that Jervis Johnson himself gave up this little piece of info. He said that the new codex won't be compatible with the current chaos space marines codex. He said that the two would be seperate, so if you wanted to field the new daemons they would have to be taken as allies. He also confirmed that it would be all daemons and lost and the damned. Take that for what it's worth

^^ Interesting....the name of the new dex is rumored to be "Ruinous powers"....so I guess LATD could fit in..

i'd find it difficult to believe GW, would not permit deamon and maybe even LATD to be taken in a normal Chaos Space Marine army unless as allies say in APocalypse. the only reason i'd see for them doing that is they go over the top on pushing the apocalypse system which ok wouldn't surprise me but would eally annoy me and i think a lot of other players

potentialy gw rolling a ?

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

Perhaps it is the same reason you can't take imperial guard in a space marine army.

Who's the Warseer source on this?

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

I dunno, I like the allies idea.. I like how allies work for "Imperial" armies.. between the 2 inquisition codexes and the guard or marine codex you can come up with some really unique and flavorful armies. Don't see why Chaos can't benefit from that too. If you want marines with a few good demon units you take demon allies, if you want demons with a few marines mixed in, you take a demon army with marine allies. If they do it the same way as Inquisitor allies you could have 1 HQ, 2 Troops, 1 Elite and 1 Fast Attack from the other army.. that's a good bit of stuff.

Okay, so this rumor comes from Jervis Johnson's ale wench? Somehow, I am not filled with overwhelming confidence as to its veracity.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

The key question would be i they are planning any models. Supposedly GW will no longer make armies without models, so unless someone see cultist sprues, or even a conversion kit for Plastic Canadians this has a very low reliability.

With the way GW has been going with the allies idea, I tend to believe this although I'll still be skeptical until the codex comes out. As for models, aren't there already existing sprues that are usable for LATD conversions? Okay, they aren't IG-model specific, but they are usable IMHO.

They are usable with a lot of effort and modelling time, much more so than a standard kit. I personally used Catachan IG, Orks, Zombies, Kroot, Marauders and Beastmen to make my mutants. That's six different model kits. Six. And that's just for one troop type! They'd need to have a mutant boxed set, a cultist boxed set, a traitor guard expansion kit to add to current guard models, and possibly a few character models.

There's SO much that could be done with all the Cult armies; I know in my head why GW isn't doing anything with them now, but my heart is screaming WHYYYYYYY!?!?!

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

One bit of news from the last year is the GW will no longer do half-baked armies that require conversion. It will either be a whole army with plastic kits and support, which they will keep in production indefinetly, or not at all.

The Demons books will require 4 plastic kits, or 5 if they include furies. L&D requires at least 2 more, mutants and cultists. So I think a good way to check this rumor is to see if there's any work on those.

The old mutant kits were a mix of Catachans, orks, zombies and a now OOP mutation sprue.

I agree. I was pretty wary before regarding LATD but it keeps popping back up...not unlike the Demon Dex that was discounted for so long. Add the LATD data sheet, the amount of people who keep asking for them and the continuous rumors....I'm starting to believe.

Ooh, yeah... I'd be careful in starting to believe if you are basing it on what people are asking for... GW isn't particularly known for responding to what their customers actually want....

hmmm. Mildly encouraging. But GW muckety-mucks on other occasions have sent very different signals, suggesting that the Demon Codex would not in fact include traitor/mutant elements.

I'd trust reds8n's comments in that Warseer thread. It's very doubtful that LatD are happening.

As to why not? Why not Horus Heresy tie-in miniatures and supplements? Why not a 40K skirmish supplement/game? Why not an hundred other things that would make sense? Because management knows better.

I love you too.

And they're not in the book, if for no other reason than it leaves them free to be done in a proper book at a later date.

But we'll all be playing 5th edition by then anyway. .. well 4.5 might be a more apt name but I'm sure you get the idea.

I'm not a chaos player but confess that the LatD army holds a lot of appeal to me. It'd be a shame to see the army go as it is definitely one of the more true to form army builds out there. Chaos cultists and demons, Blood Pact, all those Gaunt's Ghosts books. I find IG style models with some small component of marines, and a bunch of demons more true to the core of Chaos. Just my opinion though.
I hope they keep it.
