Subject: IG Officers and Independent Character

I had a question. I was on break at work and wanted this cleared up for reference sake so I dont have the codex in front of me.
The IG officers are IC. So as the rules say an Independent character may leave one squad and join another. Here is my question:
Does the codex say he CANNOT "LEAVE" THE SQUAD?
or
Does it say he must stay within 2"?
I cannot remember.
If the latter is the case I am suggesting that he could "leave" the squad as per standard rules so long as he stays within 2" of his "retinue" and join another unit. Like I said I cant remember what the codex says.
Thanks

Pg 38 "Character: the Officer is an independent character. However, he must remain within 2" of his Command Squad at all times and may not leave it. If it is wiped out, the Officer reverts to an independent character."
Even if the rules had just said he must remain within 2" he still wouldn't have been able leave the squad and joined another. An IC leaves a squad by breaking coherency with the squad it is currently a part of, i.e. by moving more the 2" away from the squad.

Imriel is quite right. The rulebook clearly states that the IC has to move outside if coherency, i.e. the 2", to leave the squad. Furthermore, if that wasn't enough, the rules for an IC also states that ICs who start with a retinue or similar cannot leave that specific squad to join another squad, unless the entire retinue is killed.

Except several of the newer codices completely do away with that rule and allow Independent Characters to leave their retinues at will.

*cough* I stand corrected, Ghaz.
I guess it had been a lot smarter to actually consult the IG Codex from the beginning. It clearly states at page 38, the special rules for the Command squad;
Character: The officer is an independent charachter. However, he must remain within 2" of his Command squad at all times and may not leave it. If it is wiped out, the Officer reverts to being an independent character.

Darn, I can be utterly confused at times... Ahem, here goes...
Imriel, I saw your post the first time I read the thread, and I just thought I'd make thinks even more clear upon ICs with retinues in general.
However, Ghaz corrected my post, and for some reason, I conpletely forgot that you hade already cleared thing up, so somehow I got the notion that the original question still remained.
That I could have re-read the threas was of course completely out of the question. I mean - actually read what the thread is about before posting? Preposterous!
