Im a Tyranid player who uses Hormagaunts. Hormagaunts are terrible at standing up so i need a way to weight their base's. A friend has recommended coins but because the Hormagaunts are on slotted bases i would have to cut the coins up which is impractical to do to the 20 odd Hormagaunts i have. What would the good people of Dakka recomend?

Also while on the topic of Hormagaunts and their base's, when the two get separated is there an easy way to get them back together and still have them look like everyone else? This is difficult because their only attached by a few mm of plastic.

Any help will be much appreaciated

As a part time 'Nid player I have ran into the same issues you bring up.

On weight. I went to the hardware store and bought a bag of small washers. I super-glue 2-3 of them to the bottom of the slotta base on one side, and then one or two more on the top (they are pretty thin) I cover the whole base with sand, static grass, and rock, so you cannot tell there is a washer there.

I also used some small fishing weights, which worked well too. Both of these, the washers and weights, fixed the top heavy gaunts.

On the broken gaunts, I drill a hole up through the base, and then into the gaunts hoof and leg. I run a thin piece of brass wire through the hole and into the miniature and super-glue it. This makes a very strong bond. If necessary I will add a bit of grass or sand to conceal the joint, but it is usually smooth and un-noticable.

at the hardware store look for 1" x 1/4 fender washers. they cover the entire base and are fairly hefty.

in addition, if you get a magnetic roll (12" x 24" available at places like Michael's) you can make a tray to carry your army so the models don't slide everywhere.

take care,

what I use are fishing weights. I get those little fresh water ball kinds that you squeeze onto your fishing line. I'll squeeze em flat with plyers then just glue 3 or 4 to the under side of the base. Works real well and a bag of weights is only gonna cost like 75 cents, or $1 if the place wants to rip you off.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Yep, lead fishing weights are the best for slotted bases. For unslotted bases a small coin is quite sufficient.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
