I have an entire box of various bitz that are waiting to become a LATD army. But the list is no longer legal. So what am I to do? Well, make the next best thing i guess.

I want a list with lots of shooty (I have a neat heavy/special weapons idea). I also want a list with lots of variation in the same manner as the old LATD list. I even want to include things that could rep large muties... I was assuming ogryns for that.

So what would work? Bastardized Witch Hunters with Traitor guard as allies? A straight guard list with traits enough to represent HTH mutants?

Let me know what you think. Oh, I really don't know much about guard so please let me know what traits would work well. Do the old WD alternate traits still work? There's certainly some fun stuf in there!

Thanks, ender502

Either witch or demonhunters with attached guard should do nicely.

Grey Knights as Chaos Terminators... mmmmmmm

I think it really depends on just how mutated your guys are, and what power they serve. Nurgle, for instance, would work really well as Orks, while Slaanesh could conceivably work as foot-slogging DE or Eldar.

Orks are by far the best list to represent LATD. You're going to have psykers, lots of ramshackle vehicles, big tough guys, little wussy guys, guns that are over powered..... everything a LATD horde needs.

I am gonn ahve to take a look at the Orks as well I guess. At least then i would have the ability to field a killer CC lord. Though a defiled grey knight does seem awful neat. But ramshackle/mad max vehicles are pretty tempting! And some of the orks can be shooty. We'll just have to see. Can any of the orks be akin to big muties? Perhaps killa kans?

And just to give you an idea of where I am coming from.... I don't like specific gods so much. I am more interested in the mutated and twisty pure chaos. A specific god entales more rules than I think are appropriate for "chaos."

I'm gonna have to also vote orks. I'm doing a theme list using those myself...

Ive seen some crazy conversions using ork, catachan, IG and Nidd parts. It looked awsome.

Just some thoughts on what to use

Warboss- CC Lord
Warp Head (Wyrd Boy)- Crazy powerful but wussy psyker
Gretchin- Little Wussy Mutants
Orks with Shootas- Normal Mutants
Nobz- Big mutants that have been experimented on, give them 'eavy armor and cybork bodys and model them having metal plates coming out of their skin and replaced arms and such.
Lootas-Mutants armed with stolen autocannons, heavy bolters, multi-lasers, etc.
Warbuggies- Ramshackled vehichles with big guns on top
Warbikes- nothing quite as fun to model as a big mob of mad max bikers
Deff koptas- these were practically taken from mad max
Battlewagons- big ol' looted vehichles,
Killa Kans- Use sentinels with the chainsaw blade

I have one idea that you could take two different ways, depending on your list and your play style.

The one idea: Daemonhunters.

Sub-idea 1) Radical Inquisitor.
You take 3 Daemonhosts & and =I= Lord.
For troops, you can use Stromtroopers, but the models you use are your mutants.
When i stopped playing DH, I was collecting an army like that.

Then, you can add in IG units and "counts as" them appropriately (Ogryn are Big Muties, regular IG are traitor IG... it's simple.

Sub-idea 2) "Pure" Daemonhunter
DO NOT use Daemonhosts.
You can have some larger models "Count as" grey knights, you can still use mutants as Stormtroopers and you can use IG allies as above.

The problem is that if he does that, he won't have a horde, as stormtroopers are expensive, can only be taken in groups of 10, and not to mention DH stormtroopers suck.

And the problem with idea number two is that DH suck

I disagree that DH suck. As allies they are incredibly efficient. Any IG or shooty SM army can be made better with the addition of an Inquisitor lord with Emperor's tarot, and a Callidus assassin.
The tarot helps you get that first turn to shoot and the callidus pulls the target of your choice out into the open to shoot at. I'm working on a Traitor army right now using the IG list to represent the
rebellious guardsmen and an Inquisitor Lord representing a fallen SM. Mounted deamonettes and flesh hounds will take the place of rough riders. My traitors are not too converted but I've worked
in some WF marauder and beastmen bits to add flavor. And IG can compete with most other lists with no problems.

I'm running my LatD as a Guard army now with allied Demonhunters. The Traitors are just normal IG, and I've been toying with the idea of using the Mutants as Conscripts.

I use a Grey Knight Grand Master to represent my Dark Apostle and take priests as it's fluffy for a Word Bearers LatD army.

If you go the IG way you can use the Big Mutants as Ogryn and take the Warrior Weapon doctrine so your traitors can have a pistol/ccw combo.

I'd be interested to hear ideas on how to represent LaTD warbikers. Anyone got any?

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Definately Orks, especially if you have little interest in guardsmen.

They can even be chaos orks. Or former orks that have been corrupted by chaos along with a bunch of other rabble.

If you're going guard you could use kroot mercs as mutants and/or cultists.

WhiteDevil, you could always use the rough riders to represent LATD bikers. You could make some
pretty cool conversions with stripped down SM bikes and Marauder horsemen bits.

Or.... how about the new ork bikes? Plop a marauder body down on one of those and call it a day..... with a little green stuff work it'll be great..... And remember, this is LATD, so you can use ork bodies with human heads.... you can use ork bodies with kroot heads, ork bodies with tentacles for heads, eye stalks, nid heads... nid arms, tentacle arms..... this is the one army that if you can picture it in your strange, demented little head, you can make it happen. And seeing as how I have a strange, demented mind, this army works perfectly for me.

I am thinking all kinds of insanity to rep big muties... ogres.... collections of random claws on a flying stand. Just whatever I can throw together.

Could you do big muties as killa cans?

What I can't wait to unveil is my heavy weapons guys.... Thos ewill be sweet and hopefully a little disturbing....

What could represent a choas spawn?

Is it possible to make a missile launcher heavy ork force? I have afun idea for that.

I would use IG and either SM or WH allies.

Obviously guardsmen for Traitors.

Terminators or maybe Penitent Engines/Arcoflagelants for Big mutants.

Conscripts for mutants.

Marines for Chaos marines.

Inquisitor/Librarian for psykers.

Penitents for Spawn.

Rough riders and bikers and all manner of sentinels and land speeders as well as tanks can be made into whatever.

The main trick is to be careful of who is allied with whom, so you don't run afoul of the slots available.

You could throw in demon hunters with witch hunters if you wanted scary terminator big mutants and penitent chaos spawn or something.

I definitely agree with taking priests for the Word Bearers heretics, or even just standard heretics. All in all, it would probably make for a really fun little list!

Why orks? because the new codex is coming out? Why humans? Is that all you play?

How about nids,,just think about it. Swarm army or a mutantzilla list. Pick your poison

I bet just about any list can be approximated using 'nids. That might be a good challenge for someone who knows 'nids really well to take up. We describe the army concept that can be approximated in another codex, they tell us why 'nids are better for it.
