When using Sisters Repentia (from the WH Codex), they run forward 2d6" if they fail a morale test from shooting (they autopass in close combat). They come with an upgrade character who is Ld10, but the basic Sister Repentia is Ld6.

Can you choose to use the Ld6 instead of the Ld10, thereby improving your chances to get an extra 2d6" closer to close combat?

There is nothing preventing you from doing so in both the rules and the rulebook FAQ (which is kind of shocking, actually).

However, the vast, vast majority of players play that you must use the highest Ld value in a unit for your Ld tests. Playing otherwise will make many people not want to play against you ever again, even if it is what the RAW seem to allow.

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?
yakface's 40K rule #2: Friends don't let friends start a MEQ army.
yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!

It's as yak says (though I do think people would cut you some slack simply because you're using the worst unit in 40k; it doens't exactly scream "cheesemonger" to me!).

Why not avoid the issue altogether by pulling the Mistress as your first casualty?

Hmmmm. Page 51, Main rulebook, Characters as Leaders, "One advantage of a character being part of a unit is that any Leadership tests the unit takes are then made using the character's Leadership value, if it is superior to the unit's." Not much leeway in that statement, no "may use" or "can use" clauses. Character joins a unit and has a higher leadership, you use that Leadership.

True, that applies to ICs. Missed the bit above about the character in question being an upgrade.

Doesn't she have a 3+ save? Wouldn't the mixed armor thing mean she can't be pulled from damage inflicted by shooting until it's her + 1 repentia?

Or did that mixed armor rule go away / change since 3.5?

Don't let looks fool you. She has exactly the same armour save.

Ahhhhh I had forgotten.

Mistress in power armor sans backpack = 4+
Repentia in rags, chains, masks/hoods = 4+

Silly me

Don't forget that IG tank tops only give a 5+. Guess the sisters rags are of superior quality.
