How many army lists do you make in an average week day?
Huh? What are you talking about? I've got one list and I play it whenever I game.
I don't generally write down lists or think about them until right before the game or the night before a tournament.
I'll think about a list for a while, and then sometimes write it down. I've got a collection over there.
I write down list ideas all the time, especially when I'm bored at school/work. I generally write up a few lists a day.

I'm curious how many army lists people theorize about in an average day. Humor me if you will.

I theorize about 40k frequently; however, it is rare that I write up an actual list unless I'm going to be playing a game.

Threads should be like skirts: long enough to cover what's important but short enough to keep it interesting.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I'm somewhere between #3 and #4 but once apon a time someone I knew and I were 10 to 25 lists a day men.

Yeah we don't talk much these days .

These days I usually try and make Eldar and Inquisition lists that have "all the cool stuff" while day dreaming about Lost and the Damned. Speaking of which I also have some developing ideas about the actual rule systems rather than army lists.

I use my Army Builder at least 4 times a week because I am in 2 leagues and I play in a few RTT's a month. I guess I am an addict.

I think about lists all the time. The amount of time I spend thinking of whether or not to include a unit in a army is one way I justify spending so much on models. So as you can imagine, it's a pretty significant amount.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

I only make one the night before a RTT or league game (then I spend the rest of the night finding my figures for it).

For GTs I pull up and modify my list from time to time. GTs are different, because you need a higher standard of painting, so if you are creating a new army, you need to start early with what models you will need.

I'm honestly flabbergasted (I have checked my flabber and it is indeed gasted) that I'm the only person to have voted for the first option.

I really hate writing army lists – I can't think of anything more dull, to be honest.

One list to play against everything, forever, is the best way to really learn the strengths and weaknesses of your army, in my opinion.

In the case of my armies, there tend to be more weaknesses than strengths!

Maybe your armies have more weaknesses than strengths because you have not updated your list and gotten rid of the units that have proven to be weaknesses in your list. Just a thought.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Different strokes for different folks I say.

One of the reasons I posted this poll was to confirm my suspicions that one of the areas people get enjoyment from the hobby is in theoretical list building. I guess I'm not alone in the fact that people like to imagine lists and work out ideas either with Army Builder or a spreadsheet in my case. It's a HUGE part of what keeps me interested in the hobby.

I've actually heard some people complain that the problem with the DA, BA, and Chaos codexes is that they don't lend them selves to limitless imaginative list building. My friends don't complain that they aren't powerful, everyone thinks there are powerful builds within them. It's that there is only a couple of powerful builds and once you figure them out you're left with nothing to do at work when bored.

The nice thing about DA is that with everything being a multiple of 5, I can make a list of a given points level in about 2 minutes from my sheet of paper with my available options written on it.

It's great for players like me who never field the exact same list twice.

I make or tweak the occasional when I'm building or tweaking an army. So I have some lists, but less than 1 per week on average.

100+ a day?

That would have to be the howard hughes of miniature gaming (and that's pretty scary to think about considering some gamers level of sociability already).

Sitting in his dark room all day scribbling out army lists, peeing in jars and drinking milk.

Why not?

Acctually writing lists isn't done much anymore but I do theorise unit combos and ideal tactics for units in given situations.

Currently working out what magic to go for with a 2nd gen slaan against different opponents.

That sure sounds like the "I think about a list for a while and then write it down sometimes" category to me.

I'll write up a few different lists when I'm planning a new army, and post it on a few different sites to get more ideas so I know what to buy and/or how to model something. Then I buy just the models I need and play a bunch of games, then I start tweaking. In the end though I usually will just have 1 big master list with every unit already figured out, then I just pick and choose what I want for a game up to the right amt of points, so I don't have to make all new lists every time

I never really make armylists. I just think about my next purchase or what sounds cool at the moment. I don't recomend this approach though as I always start armies just to realize I only liked one or two models and then I sell them on ebay or lose them.

Note that you didn't specify a game system: I'll play with AT-43, WM, Hordes GASLIGHT and 40k lists at various points throughout the week, as the mood strikes me.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

I often think up a lot of ideas for lists, but only write them down when they really strike me as interesting. Usually for Flames of War, I'll try to think of a focus or two, and build a list around it. For example, I'll do something where I try to max out my infantry platoons, and then try to fit support units in, or try to use a lot of artillery. Sometimes I try to add a lot of tanks in an infantry list, or try to see how much infantry I can fit in a tank list, or something like that.

Blend of the first few. I have a set of standard all-comers lists, but I keep modifying and tweaking them to try and make them stronger. If I lose a game, I figure out what went wrong and what didn't do it's job right, and fix it.

I used to have a spreadsheet set up for army lists, so I could just throw stuff at a point limit and see what it threw up, which took a LOT of the time and effort out of lists.
But my comp crashed and I don't have Office on this one, so I have to wait to sort more out.

In the old days I used to make a list a day, or in some cases ever more.

Now I find it rare that I write any lists other then immediatly preceding a game.
