In an attempt to create a unique army for the deamon prince I've been building (a WIP for several years now), I apperently jumped on the bandwagon...
The original idea for the army is a Khornate warband, led by two worldeaters techmarines turned deamon princes, one with brains and one with brawl. The bulk of the army will consist of deamon and spawn infested dreadnoughts, backed up by a trio of big gunservitors and supported by some smaller deamonic minions.
The best fitting list for this idea turned out to be, surprise, surprise, a godzilla choir list...

To keep myself from gaining an unfair advantage and punish myself for creating such a blasphemous "counts as" army, I have decided on the following:
All the models I build will be bigger and based on bigger bases than their tyranid counterparts.
To give my opponents a chance to know what model represents which codex entry, I've also tried to intoduce a bit of WYSIWYG into the models:
Khornate chain weapons will count as rending claws.
Living icons or models carrying an icon of Khorne will be Synapse creatures.
All models with the collar of Khorne will have the Psychic scream ability.
Plasma cannons will represent the warp blast psychic power.
Multiple Heavy bolters or bolters will count as twin-linked devourers.
Biggerized autocannons will be used as venom cannons.
Hellcannons will count as barbed stranglers.

Well, on with the pictures:

Rhug'guari'ihlulan, the Wings of Khorne:
(counts as Hive tyrant with wings, double scything talons, toxin sacs and fleshhooks)

The gun arm for one of my manflayer dreads:
(counts as an elite carnifex with a pair of twin-linked devourers)

Two squads of skulltakers:
(count as naked genestealers)

Two hunters of Khorne:
(count as raveners)

Two deathdealer fire support dreadnoughts:
(count as heavy support carnifexes with venom cannon and barbed strangler)

One of three possessed servitors:
(this one counts as a zoanthrope with warp blast and psychic scream)

The whole army, except for the winged deamon prince, is all very much a work in progress, at the moment none of the models are finished.
All comments, criticism, etc. are appreciated.
Pleas pick them apart

WHOA*

At first I thought you were actually making a chaos army with especially monstrous models, loading up on spawn, defilers, princes, etc, etc. I was very excited as no one has done that ... But I won't fault you for choosing C:Nidzilla instead (much better army, of course), and you've done a rock solid job of matching your models with the Nid entries. Possibly only the bolters tacked onto the prince, or the power armor on the stealers, throw things a bit, but honestly nobody should be noticing those things with so much AWESOME going on across from them.

My favorite part? The legs on the "gunfexes," very impressive with the biotek look (cables ftw). My second favorite part? The floating obliterator, particularly the great extended plasma cannon arm, very rocking. His head I don't like, would have preferred just the spawn head or perhaps just a nest of targeters inside the armor's head cavity, but ah well. Got me thinking about putting my own together, as I have all the bitz you used ...

The ravener idea is solid too, though hard to tell if more putty is needed to blend all those parts together a little better (paint will help tell I think). The amount of hoof sticking out of the "genestealer's" leg armor is a bit odd too, but does make them taller and suggests a second joint.

Think that's all for now. Great job so far, intense conversions are well thought out and very interesting.

The raveners and genestealers are the best parts of this army. The weapons on the Raveners look amazing, you did an excellent job putting those together. I'm really excited to see some paint on them.

I don't like the Daemon prince at all. I feel bad about saying that, because it's obvious you put an ass load of work into him. I don't know if it's the pictures you've taken or what, but it looks too cluttered and really sloppy. And is it furry or is that my imagination?

Overall, I think you have an excellent idea, and your execution of that idea is coming along quite well.

wow, now that's breathtaking. my personel favorite is the dreadnought with REALLY. BIG. GUNS.
the corrupted tech priest is also a great idea.

we need more armys like these, obvious theme, but unsuspected rules....well not that unexpected since you can't really build cool armys with the chaos 'dex.

what I don't like now are the beastman. they just don't look dangerous enough to pass as stealers.

edit: did I mention that I am terriefied of genestealers.... :S

First I thought "wicked". But after seeing all the other stuff in think you put the idea of chaos to a whole new level. In my opinion these modells deserve their own rules.

Awesome.

The conversion work you did is unbelievabley good.

The paint job on the prince looks like it's unfinished. It could just be the photography.

Dead sexy man. It really makes me think that the current Chaos models are lacking. Deeply lacking.

You and Lemmingspawn need to have babies. I'd be willing to put cash down that they would have goat heads, or at least a 9 pointed star birth mark.

Thanks for all the comments, please keep them coming
You just made me realize that I didn't mention that the paintjob on the furry prince is still far from finished.
Actually it only has its basic colors slapped on and is on hold until I have finished building the remainder of the army (mostly for motivational purposes...).

I would very much like this army to be as scary and imposing as I can make it, if only for the unlikely chance that an opponent gets a bit unnerved before the first die roll.
So I will try to make the beastman a little more scary and disturbing, I was thinking of drilling their eyes out and insert cables attached to some cybernetics on their back, on the face the cables would preferably look a bit like this.
Do you think this would help making them more impressive?
By the way, they are indeed meant to have double jointed legs, to represent fleet of foot and move through cover.

@ Clang: please do use the lascannon legs yourself, I just nicked the idea from someone at the B&C. A word of caution, the sponsons aren't that strong, I drilled them out, inserted nails and filled them completely with a filler glue to make the legs rigid enough.

A little update:
Some work has been done on the servitors. The first one is coming along nicely, it still needs cleaning, detailing, gapfilling and more cables/spikes/skull runes/ arrows.

The first of the wound counters, just 27 more to go:

A quick mockup of the other two servitors:
Second gunspawn (another Warpblast and Psychic Scream Zoey):

Banner bearer (Synapse and Psychic Scream Zoey):

My love for the floating oblits continues on. Damnation, that's the coolest threesome ever ... o_O

And any model that incorporates nails instantly wins.

Thanks Boss_Salvage,
By the way, I love your deamon prince, the nails make him much more brutal.

I've done a little work to make the skulltakers look a little more scary and less like fantasy beastmen.

After seeing the awesome ripper terminator lemmingspawn built, I realized that faces without eyes are always scary.
So I stole the basics of his idea to cyber up the beastmen. (I'm still not too sure about making chaosbabies, though...)

Anyway, on with the, again still very early WIP, pictures:

And a little size comparison:

Does he look dangerous enough to pass as a genestealer replacement and not a slightly altered beastman?

Piercing the heavens

well, the eyes (or lack of them) are certainly a step in the right direction, but for me, it's still not scary enoguh. the thing I'm really afraid of, when I see a horde of stealers aproaches me (and usually it is a horde, since my gaming buddies know I hate them) are their rending claws. I mean, those things can tear through Terminator armor, and a "normal" khorne chain axe just won't do it IMO.

let me think what would work instead....

1. how about double-bladed chainaxes with a longer handle, that would make them look a lot more powerful

2. maybe the krüger-style fingers from the necron nightmares (or whatever their called on your side of the big pond)

3. a friend of mine uses parts from the plastic dryads, painted in shiny red, which looks like really bloody claws.

4. or you go way over the top in size and power and use the same claws I used back when I build my possessed marines. when demonic claws were an option and not a possiblity

For the record, that DP was made by an ex-Dakkite named Kironor_Dread. I combined and saved the pics he posted to preserve his, er, legacy

(But seriously Kironor, I miss ya pal )

The "genestealer" is certainly looking spooky and imposing, hadn't realized he was so big. But I think Anung is onto an easy way to make them a) even spookier and b) instantly recognizable as 'stealers -- arms ending in a mass of claws capable of rending. Loads of ways to achieve this look, though I like the flayed one claws option the best personally, and have done it on several models meself.

Have a few extra drinks tonight man, and we will see how you feel about those chaos babies. (There's a reason so many of us are born in September.)

I really like the look of the models. I don't know if they scream rending or not, but then I never really liked the look of the genestealers. They always seemed to have so many limbs and fingers that they were over crowded.

Perhaps the problem is more that they look like they should be hitting once or twice with Str6 instead of a mess of times with str4 and rending?

No pregnancies yet, at least, none that were my doing...

I ran into a bit of "converter's block" with the skulltaker weapons:
Although I very much like the claw idea, I am also set on using khornate chain weapons because the "raveners"(my only other source of rending attacks) also have a modified chainweapon. So, to prevent myself from doing something I might later regret, I've decided to leave the skulltakers alone for now.

Instead I started building the first of the three manflayer dreadnoughts (dakka-fexes).
The huge grinder is there just for the 'fex his basic attacks and to represent the wrecker strategem, while the gun arm represents his two twin-linked devourers. He is, ofcourse, still in a very early WIP stage (no hip joint, no gaps filled, not nearly enough pistons on the close combat arm, almost no details, etc.).

Pictures (the wooden toothpick is just there to keep him from falling over):

How do you like it so far?

I love the beastmen with the chaos legs. Objects stuck
to a scrapped model don't give me as much of a hard-on,
but I guess I just really dig the beastman conversions.

Re: The beastmen:

Perhaps combine the knives and chainaxes, so each beastman has 2 weapons that have a chainaxe on one end, and a knife on the other?

Re: The dread:

It's hugely offbalance, needs to be reposed. Also, the little dinky feet (and to a lesser extent, legs) look, little and dinky... Need to be bigger, and spikier/clawier.

(Is clawier even a word? It sounds good through)

Thanks for the comments and advice (@ tragic nut: you were quite right...)
I've done some work on the first "dakka-fex" and made a 1700 list (the dutch GT size).
This list included 1 min-sized squad of termagaunts, for which I had no "counts as" idea, that is, until I saw lemmingspawn's walking vindicator and realized I wanted a bunch of walking guns.
Enough ranting, time for pictures:

The new legs really make the dread work for me, it looks much more "I'm going to RIP OUT YOUR SPINE" and much less "Oh @$#^ I just tripped!".

The stalker gun seems like a cool concept. But I'm not that familiar with the old bloodletter models, and so I don't know if any of their necks will result in the guns pointing more or less forwards. Also, it might be slightly creepier if they had arms too. Just ordinary arms, nothing particularly scary about them.
