For my WIP Imperial Guard (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/205727.page#213997 ) I
've decided I'd like to use the Tallarn rough rider models. Horses don't really do it for me,
so I'm trying to decide what kind of animal to mount them on. Someone at GW suggested
I use some upcoming camels from the LotR range, but that doesn't really do it for me either.
And as mukhalii (sp?) look like... well you know what they look like, I've decided that from the
GW range, Cold ones are the best bet.

Tallarn Rough rider blister:

As far as I can see, these are regular GW horsies. So fitting them onto different models shouldn't be
that much of a hassle. Does anyone have any experience with this? Furthermore, after some browsing
I've found these two types of Cold ones, available from the GW store without riders:

'New' Lizardmen cold ones:
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99120208006&orignav=13

Dark Elf Cold ones:
http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=99060212047&orignav=13

So which of them to choose? From reading IA:3 - Taros, it seems mukhalii are supposed to be calm
herbivores. While that doesn't really matter too much as far as modeling goes, I believe the DE ones
would fit that description better. On the other hand, they look a bit... fat to me. I really like the Lizardman
ones, but they're alot more 'feral-looking' than the others.

What do you think?

I like the lizardmen ones. They have a more dynamic pose and they remind me of labradors for some reason. I can picture it now:
Sergeant look it's licking my head. Oh you just wanna play dontcha. Crunch.

Where ever I am...

I personally would do the Lizardmen steed...the Dark Elf one looks like the baby Godzilla from the live action movie... which to me would seem more like a jungle type enviroment animal, and if for some reason they dont fit, you can always reshape the legs to fit...

When was it cool to not be a Marine?

I would go through the Reaper and D&D lines and track yourself down a giant sandworm (or 10). Fedaykin FTW.

You mean something like this?

Imagine the GW staff once you show up with 12 of these, saying 'it's just my rough riders. And kudos to you Syr, I'm suprised nobody
made the Dune connection earlier. The mini-series (not David Lynch's thingy) has had some influence on how I'll model my 'real'
tallarns once I get them. Perhaps I'll use this one above, and make one just for show

High elf lions: These look great! Sadly, it seems impossible to get them without buying 6 High elf chariots :(

Labradors, Snorkle? You made some really interesting posts last night, must have been a fun time (I have a labrador myself, I see what you mean)

Christ... now I have the idea of Rough Riders on the giant 19th century bikes, the ones with the huge front wheel and tiny back wheel...

I am glad I am not home to start glueing things together for that... The compulsion to build a Monty Python-esque army is always just below the surface.

Penny Farthings, is what they're called. And they're good enough for the Queen, why not the emporor?

Or perhaps the God-Emperor prefers his Rough Riders to go out on Unicycles?

Found another sandworm for ya ...

So that purple worm is a D&D prepaint. Can I tear the rocks / model off the base easily? How about stripping it / repriming over the prepaint?

Thanks for the help, not much experience with pp stuff.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

If you use the D&D purple worm model add three or four Tallarni on each with a pin (unglued). Count them as wounds and take one away for each wound suffered. Instant death immunity should be included.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

First time around I didn't really get what all the 'penny farthings' comments were about. From my topic
title, I guess I should have seen that coming.

On a more serious note, I've decided to go with the Lizardman cold one route. Simply because after
checking out some finished samples at the local GW store, I can't help but love them. That, and the
fact that Snorkle pointed out how much they resemble labradors. Being the proud owner of a black
lab myself... you get the picture.

Anyways, order has been placed for the first six rough riders. Sadly, with the time it takes GW to deliver
these days, I won't be able to start working on them for about a month :( Once I get them, I'll toss them
up in my P&M blog (link in my signature)

Now for the fun part:

as Syr8786 pointed out, 'Shai-hulud must ride!' So I bought one of the purple worms for a couple of $ (literally)
off eBay, hopefully it will get here about the same time as the rough riders. What it will be used as (if anything)
is still being debated in my gaming group, but for now the most likely candidate seems to be a 'summoned
greater daemon' from the Daemonhunter adversaries rules. I'm thinking of using the tallarn sergeant with
plasma gun and sword on its back (provided the scale fits), but that's something I'll get back to once I have the
model.

Shrew:
I really like those WIP pictures of yours. Suddenly, I got the urge to grab some skavens and make a 40k version
of 'Biker mice from Mars'... I hope someone stops me before I start that

Boss Salvage:
I don't have any experience with these models myself, but a while back I came across some pictures on the web
where someone had simply primed it with Skull white. Seemed to work fine. I'll let you know how it works out once
I get it

Thanks for all the comments, lads and lassies (pun intended)! Hopefully I'll have a progress report soon

Alright! Personally I was going to use it as a knarloc for my subterranean tau, but your idea is a good one too. Some poor dude goes out as bait, and either is eaten by the worm or hops on top for a wild ride ...

The Hammer

If you don't mind a general lack of effectiveness, you could probably have some great fun running three of those Wyrms as Daemonhosts...run the "Mahout" Sergeant as an Elite Inquisitor, call the deep strike "burrowing," and you're off to the races.

I've seen a really great 28mm camel that is sold for $10 with permission to cast it. The store also supplies armatures and modeling putty - I guess camels are tough to sculpt or something. I'll edit in with the link soon as I get around to digging it up.

...and I hope no-one stops you from making "Hrud" bikers, because I would laugh heartily at those pics.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.
