Hi all,

I am finally getting around to painting my meager space marine force (at this stage 2 platoons of Marines, 1 platoon of Scouts and 2 Landspeeders), and I can't decide what paint scheme to use. I originally designed my force to be Blood Ravens - BEFORE I found out that was the chapter used in the Dawn of War series. I picked them out of the Marine Codex because they had the combination of Chapter Traits I was planning on using anyway

So I don't want to use this colour scheme:
.

I have thought about using a scheme similar to that of the Skorne from Hordes:

but I have now decided I don't want red at all

I've been looking around a bit but I haven't found a scheme I really like yet, although there are some I'm considering.

What do you guys suggest? The chapter is going to be based around scouting and quick reaction forces, with an emphasis on Infiltrations, Deep Strikes and Drop Pods. As a result I want a scheme that my Infiltrating units can use which isn't Neon-bright, but also one which will stand out on a table (as the Deep Strikers and Drop Pods can be any kind of colour really).

What do you guys suggest?

Cheers,
Viperion

How about bleached bone armour with black shoulder pads and crimson red helmets and tiny gold trim accent details?

The bone armour would stand out on most boards, especially as it's a light color. You can paint it easily, and it will tolerate white highlights, dark shades, and most washes. The red stuff simply adds some color, and the black pads add weight, while the little bits of gold will add sparkle.

That's an interesting idea.... I did a quick mock-up of that idea with the "Interactive Marine Painter" on the GW site and it looks really interesting... only I'm not sure how good a job of hiding a Scout Unit would do in off-white armour

Does anyone have any pics (or links) to figures painted in mainly Vomit Brown? With the Marine Painter above it looks like an only-slightly darker shade than Bleached Bone, which with Camo Cloaks would work OK for Scouts.

Thanks for the idea,

Viperion

Ok, Recently I tried making some traitors and mutants outta my bro.'s IG stuff, I thought I'd think of an evil paint scheme that wasn't freakin' red and black. So, after playng around with my mithril silver, and purple ink, I'm proud to sy I found my new SoB color as a byproduct! Seriously, if you do mithril silver, and just lather on the purple ink, you get a metallic purple that just says "Hi, I'm going to be kicking your ass today, are there any questions?" lol.
For the cloth (if there is any) I did the good ol' chaos black, and I drybrushed HEAVILY on some space wolves grey. I finished the grey pants/shirts/cloaks with some black ink, and BAM! There was some highlighted black pants!!!!!!
It worked wonders for me, maybe you'll have the same luck I did.!!

I am a fan of the quartered look. Basically take any primary color plus white or bleached bone, paint the marine in quarters, and viola! regal looking space marine! I am working on a DA green and bleached bone quartered army right now.. It is quite daunting.

A charcoal grey with dark greens or browns might work well. The brown would be nicely trimmed with gold if used on shoulder pads etc.

Another thing that works is to swap colors for the terminators and scouts/tacticals like I did in my Paterno's Lions. The squads are all blue uppers and white lowers, with white helmets, while the terminators are all white with a few blue accents. It really makes them stand out on the table.

scout could be painted black / dark grey, with only the shoulder pad in off-white, to link them to the rest of the army

May I suggest neon purple and gold?

They shall be known as the pimpmarines, who ride around in pimpmobiles.

On a more serious note, white armour with grey trim, or boltgun metal trim could look good if done carefully.

I actually like purple and gold.

'The Assyrian came down like the wolf on the fold,
And his cohorts were gleaming in purple and gold;
And the sheen of their spears was like stars on the sea'

I've often thought about doing an Assyrian inspired marine army, purple armor and gold trim.

OK, so I've got an old arm+bolter sprue I've VERY quickly painted up in the suggested colour schemes. I know which one I like, but I'm interested in y'all's opinions

(Again, a disclaimer: This is a 30minute paint job (the whole thing, that is). There is no shading, no inking, and no drybrushing. This is merely an indication of colours).

Whatcha think?

Feh, the purple isn't lurid enough. (for the pimpmarines idea) However, the top one has potential for being absurdly flamboyant, I like it.

I'm talking something absurd... like this: http://images.buycostumes.com/mgen/merchandiser/19801.jpg

There is no purple on those examples; the only thing approaching is a straight-up Red Gore. I'm not doing PimpMarines
