If you want army composition advice, I'd start with the 40k Tactics forum and explain that you're new and ask for some advice.

Welcome to dakka! Iorek speaks the truth - the 40k tactics forum will be able to help you a lot. One thing to note though, please refrain from using IM and text speak like 'thx 4 ur help' as we have a lot of non-english readers who need to use translation software to read the forums. IM/Text style typing breaks their translators and they are unable to enjoy the threads so we have quite a hardline stance of not allowing it. We have quite a few older users who get cranky at the sight of it too so please take the time to type things out fully

welcome! good advice already, personally for getting started I'd look at the boxed sets, they give a bit of variety and usually a good core to start with if you want a 'normal' codex list army. If you have particular tactics/themes in mind then it's worth asking around first. Good luck!

Welcome to Dakka! Haven't been here long myself, but it's a pretty good place to get your info. You've picked a good army to start out with; from what I have seen orks are pretty ascendant right now. That will probably change in time, but that is the nature of GW. Enjoy it while it lasts! They also have some of the best and easiest opportunities for modifications and personaliztion of any army out there, in IMO. Good luck!
