I´ve put the train engine on the backburner for a while to try out some ideas I had for an Ordo Hereticus warband. This is both an opportunity to play around with some new stuff like the very juicy Empire Wizard sprues and to get some use out of older sprues I´ve got laying around.

The Inquisitor:

The Preacher:

The Warrior:

The Sororita:

The Culexus:

While the Preacher is finished and I only need to decide on the final weapons loadout for the Inquisitor there´s obviously still some work to do on the others. A backpack (Seraphim or otherwise) for the Sororita, proper legs for the Culexus, arm placement and general detailling on the Warrior for example. I also plan to build some more warriors and zealots.

The Empire Wizard box not only accounts for the preacher (with some added Ecclesiarchy symbols and re-sculpted flames) but also provided the rose entwined scythe and the life energy/soul drain for the Culexus. And there are still enough parts left to build a convincing Cogitator!

Damn you! I want to have the coolest Witch Hunters force!

Now I might as well melt mine down, and find something even more obscure to have the nicest figures for.

I do like the start you are off to. It hadn't occured to me to cut up the pilot from the Immolator to make a new girl. I have so many spare bits from Exorcist kits laying around, I will have to give that a shot.

And by shot I mean "Shoot myself in the head for shame". Can't you stick to making psychotic trains and the like? You gotta leave SOMETHING for us less masterful plebes to work on!

Nice conversions!

The sister is a great use of the plastic crewm... uh, crewperson. Person of crewn... uh, chick that shoots tank stuff.

I do have two little things to point out-

Not so much on the Necron bit as the Culexus eyepiece. A bit too bulky for that face, even if it is supposed to be the ridiculously huge animus speculum. Maybe with some bulk going towards the back of the head too, though. That head is great, by the way.

Also, the Warrior is a great Arbites-looking fellow, but I really hope you'll trim that neck down and get his helm close to his shoulders. He is supposed to be a brute, right? I know it's a test fit, but thought I'd point that out.

Nice little band. hope they fry some witches real soon.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Aw, rats. When I read the thread title, I was thinking we may have finally convinced you to do some 54mm Inquisitor figures. I know you said before you had little interest, because you prefer working in plastic to metal. But that is why you're the perfect person to figure out how to go about doing that!

Anyways, they look really good. Specific thoughts

- I'm not sure the waist of the torso on the Inquisitor is big enough to fit with those legs
- shouldn't his falcon have eyes?
- Where did you get the bit for the symbol on the preacher's hat?
- really cool gun for the Warrior
- I don't think the beastman legs work at all for the culexus. Especially in a witchhunter warband

I like everything so far except the Culexus. However, it will
probably look better with paint on it.

I really like the soro with the scythe, the Inquisitor however isn't as impressive as an Inquisitor should be IMO

Thanks for the comments. To address some of the points so far:

Yes, the helmet on the warrior will sit a good bit lower for the final version. I might also work on the helmet itself to get it closer to this:

The warrior will also get a backpack.

I´m also not quite sure about the culexus´ "eye" but we´ll see how it looks with some additional piping and cables.

I´ll either add some grenades, books or other doodads to the inquisitor to de-emphasize the transition between torso and legs or use the positioning of his weapons to do so. The falcon is wearing a cap which incidentally works just as well as some sort of cyber-psionic control thingy. The fleur-de-lys is from an ornamental shield from the Bretonnia questing knights.

The culexus will indeed get proper legs. While the inquisition has no problem employing literally soulless abominations it would certainly draw the line at goat-legged freaks.

Wonderful stuff ESDK, digging on the stripped down Inquisitor, I can appreciate that style. Reaper sister is of course money as well, and I have high hopes for the culexus.

Meet the Lexmechanicus:

Did I already mention that I like the Empire Wizards? I might give him some outward signs of bionic modification (cables runnig into his head or something) but he already looks the part as it is.

that is a sweet model, i love the way he handles the techno device like he is casting a spell instead of pushing buttons.

SM- Lets roll to see who goes first
Nob- Urgh...ok, I got a 6
SM- Oops, looks like I got an 8, so I go first
Nob- You got a 8 on a 6 sided die?
SM- Um, yep.
Nob- Space marines.....

I built a new helmet for the warrior from some old Empire bits and I´m very pleased with the result:

The visor still needs to be cleaned up a bit but otherwise that´s pretty much exactly what I had in mind.

Some additional detail for the culexus:

The eye is quite oversized but considering the official version looks like this,

my version looks downright sleek.

NICE as always!

What is the Arbites head from?
And what does ESDK mean anyway?
If you tell me I'll tell you the secret meaning of HBMC.

The helmet is based on an old Empire halberdier helmet with the visor and neckguard built from slices of plasticard tube. I´ll probably add some rivets and tweak the shape of the visor a little and then see if I can cast it for the remaining warriors.

ESDK are simply my initials and since I already know what HBMC stands for, I´ll have to decline any further information. If I remember correctly telling someone your full name over the Internet grants them voodoo powers.

I especially like what you have done with the empire wizards. The Lex. looks extremely cool. I like the assassin but he looks like he needs some bracing or a balancing weight on his neck/head IMO. Maybe beefing up hi neck or give him a mechanical collar or something like that??

Very characterful and inspiring stuff overall.

After adding some more detail to it, I made a mold of the helmet and cast two more. I was concerned I´d need to make a two piece mold but the silicone RTV is actually flexible enough to pry the whole piece from it. The first is marred by two air bubbles but the second one came out fine except for one edge of the visor:

I also improved the Sororita´s grip on the scythe and carved out the legs:

Those Arbites look great!¨I like the use of scout legs. But what are you using for their torsos?

They are from the Bretonnia Knights sprue which is also a rich source of fleur-de-lys iconography. I´m also looking into using the knight´s legs for something though it will be tricky converting them from their riding stance.

I´ve been hampered by work and some of Nurgle´s blessings recently but I finally got around to put the Eversor on proper legs:

Obviously there´s still sculpting to do on the legs, adding bulk and muscle definition, but after several attempts I´m now content with his proportions. I purposely used a Gor body rather than an Ungor because I kind of like the idea that the one Assassin which mainly relies on psychic/"soul"-powers rather than martial prowess would nevertheless have such an intimidating physique.

Ah-ha! This is the thread with the great scratch-built flamer. I'd wanted to link to this earlier in another thread, but couldn't find it at the time. I love the simplicity of that flamer conversion. Great stuff.

No, the second one is just there as a height comparison. I made casts of the head to have something to experiment with concerning placement of the Oculus and just put one on an unmodified Gor body to get some sense of proportion.
