I’m a long-time 40K player but I’m starting to learn WHFB and am thinking of running Tomb Kings. I haven’t bought any units yet, I want to see what kind of list I can come up with first and then get the units needed. I also want to take advantage of the box set for TK’s to the extent possible.

So I came up with this list and would appreciate any comments/suggestions.

TOMB KINGS 2000
Lord/Heroes
1) Lord: Tomb King, chariot, spear of Antarhak, Crown of Kings, Golden Eye of Rah-Nutt
General
315 pts
2) Hero: Liche Priest, Steed, light armor, Enkhil’s Kanopi, Dispel Scroll
Hierophant
171 pts
3) Hero: Liche Priest, light armor, Brooch of the Great Desert, Hieratic Jar; Casket of Souls
168 pts

Core
1) Chariots
6 x Chariots, Icon of the Sacred Eye
290 pts
2) Light Skeleton Horsemen
10 x Skeleton Horsemen
140 pts
3) Skeleton Warriors
15 x Skeleton Warriors, bows, Banner of the Undying Legion
145 pts
4) Skeleton Warriors
15 x Skeleton Warriors, hand weapons, shields, Banner of the Undying Legion
145 pts
5) Skeleton Warriors
15 x Skeleton Warriors, hand weapons, shields, Banner of the Undying Legion
145 pts
6) Skeleton Warriors
15 x Skeleton Warriors, hand weapons, shields
120 pts

Special
1) Tomb Scorpion
85 pts

Rare
1) Casket of Souls
165 pts
2) Screaming Skull Catapult, Skulls of the Foe
110 pts

Total: 1999

I picked lots of core troops because basic troops win battles Also, I like the idea of chariots and horses, and I put the hierophant on a steed so he can keep up with the horses and also go elsewhere quickly if needed.

Keeping your Hierophant alive is a lot more important than keeping your King alive, I would look into a collar for him

you can't have all those magic banners, one unit of skeletal solders get a magic banner, aside from which I'm pretty sure you don't get to repeat banners- about this i could be wrong.

You may want to think of a high priest, that way our archers and your catapault can fire twice

beef up your skeleton blocks, 15 is not a lot, 20 min, i run 30

Light Skeleton horsemen should be smaller units (no rank bonus) or keep them bigger and make them heavy for a punch.

just my two cents, based on how i.ve done

You need a third Liche priest 2 just won't cut it in 2000 points. Also as Shaman said you cannot have more than one of any magic items unless it is a scroll or stone (Usually Dispell Scroll and Power Stone). For the third priest I would put him on a horse and make him the heirophant.

Brake that chariot unit into 2 units of 3. You are not going to be getting rank bonuses with that unit and its better to have more flexibility than larger numbers with Tomb Kings Chariots.

I also have never liked the casket of souls. In most games that I have played it just makes that Liche priest the first target for both enemy shooting and flyers. If you need points for anything else in the army this is where to get it from.

The main advantage from Tomb Kings comes from its magic. Without a solid magic phase you opponent will simply walk right over your army like it was not even there.

that banner should not go onto the archers, you'll want it to keep the hand to hand skeletons alive
i would say give it to your sword and shield guys and combine the units...a 30 strong with banner unit of skeletons isn't going anywhere

the steed to make your hirophant mobile is nice, but keeping him with your archers and giving him the collar will work some serious wonders too.

for manuverability also consider cloak of dunes
