Greetings,

I have decided to make an entire 1500-1700 point Space Marine army entirely with the Mk5 Heresy Armour. I originally planned on making it a Mk6 Corvus Armour army but decided that it had been done before to varying degrees and thought a Mk5 army would be a nice change.

The army will be in the scheme of the Angels of Vigilance.

While I admit that this isn't much of a start to a log, I have mostly completed a single model. A sergeant for a tactical squad unit.

Since the picture, I have converted the last pad to have no trim. Also, the head isn't glued down so I can position it better if need be.

The left arm isn't quite right but I think it'll do for a sergeant and he'll blend in to the unit/army once I get more stuff assembled.

Until the next update,

Cool idea. where is the tabard from?

Sounds like a cool idea, where are you getting all the studded pads from?

oh an the tabard looks like a Mordheim Skaven cloak

The tabard is indeed the Mordheim Skaven cloak. I've traded for a large number of studded pads, so hopefully I'll have enough for the army.

Also, I've finished the test model for the Mk5 army and here he is:

More to come soon I hope.

Nicely painted. I can't wait to see more models

The armor color looks great in practice so far. Some touch up work on the highlighting will solidify things a bit more.

However, the detail colors aren't really doing much for me. The violet and the green just don't seem to compliment the colors here well at all. It might just be the shades you have right now, or it might be seeing them both on the model isn't giving a very pleasing effect.

I definitely would like to see a 100% completed mini.

Would a red work better than the green for the seals? I want to keep the purple but wasn't sure what to do about the seals so I did them green like the Dark Angels.

I see red seals and blue tubes/glowy bits, maybe black shoulder pad markings?

I'd definitely give red a go and see how it looks. I think it will compliment the base armor color better, and could also help draw in the violet.

I've taken some shots of a couple colours of seals.

The first is the same green as before:

The second is a darker red:

I'm not sure which one I like better.

I vote red, as it matches the warm tone of the yellow.

The red is better for sure but i agree with grey_death that the violet doesnt add up for me.

Red is better and the blue idea for the coils sounds like it would work very well.

I'm gonna say red as well. Though one more stage of highlight for the red could help bring it out more too.

Blue on yellow would fit more in my minds eye, but you said you want to keep violet for those bits.

Lovely paint-job. Question though: Does the studded shoulder pad reallyt go on the left hand side?

How should I base them do you think?

Really it all depends on what you imagine as their home world or where they're fighting 'right now'.

Normally you want to try and base them close to the terrain they'll be used on most.

The revised colors are really great.

But it's not a tabard! It's a darn loincloth!

I like. Just curious, why not add some studding to your legs and the other shoulder? Not a whole lot, don't want to kill yourself after all, but a few studs I think would really help break the flat areas up.

The other shoulder is supposed to be flat and smooth. I thought of adding studs to other parts of the body, but don't have anything to make them out of.

It's happened and I knew it would. I've hit a snag and have lost most of the urge to paint these guys any more. I need to come up with a consistant colour for the wash over the armour and I can't seem to make one. I've been painting the head of the 2nd test marine and it's a shade off from the 1st test marine and the body that it belongs to.

If anyone can suggest a good yellowy brown paint that would be good for the wash, I'd be greatly appreciated. If not, I'll be moving on to something else, for now anyway.

I managed the get the 2nd model done.

Here he is:

Not as good as the 1st one IMO, but he'll do for a regular trooper.

Greetings,

I've begun work on a Mk5 Tech Marine. I don't know if I'll end up using the model, I may if I use vehicles with this army or get a couple dreads.

Anyway, here he is:

Neither the head nor the backpack are glued on.

Second model looks pretty good for a tabletop quality trooper. I agree, you seem to be having wash problems. I saw over on warseer someone mention doing them in batches and I agree, you should probably try and get them all washed around the same time or mix up a big batch of the wash to do a lot of them with.

I'm diggin the Techmarine so far. Love that left leg. Not so much the right foot >_<.

@grey_death: The right foot is how it comes and everything's pretty well glued, so I think he's stuck with the chicken foot.

I've done another marine for the army, didn't want to go the regular two handed bolter so I did this:
