You are invited to take part in the 2008 Miniatures and Wargames Survey. This survey is designed to gather information from hobbyists regarding how they play and what they are interested in. Like our previous survey, Miniatures Survey - Summer 2007, we have tailored the questions to help find out what your interests are, and have have taken those questions further still in order to get more exact information. Many of the questions are the same from that survey in order to help generate trends over time, as I intend on doing a survey every winter in order to see how things are changing over time.

This survey will remain active until February 29, 2008, at which time the results will be compiled and posted on my website for anyone who would like to see the results. Past surveys will remain available in order to show trends from year to year in terms of gaming interests and other habits of hobbyists. Feel free to repost this announcement everywhere you frequent, as the more people who take the survey, the better the results will be.

In order to take the survey, it does require an email address in order to verify users. The address is not kept with your answers, and it will not be used to contact you or released to any third parties. However, if you would like to take the survey - but do not feel comfortable releasing an email address, contact me via PM and I will generate a token for you to use to take the survey. I would like to reiterate though, the email address is not used for anything other than creating your unique survey ID. It will not be sold, traded or added to any mailing list.

So please, take 10 or 15 minutes to fill out the survey and let your voice be heard. So far we have had over 1000 surveys completed, but the more responses - the better.

Take the survey.

Ok. What is this survey for?

yeah i get that it is regarding wargames, but what is this for? A company? Personal interest? Games developers?

Not trying to see conspiracy, but when someone asks if I want to take a survey, I want to know exactly what this info is being used for.

Not a problem. Mostly it is for personal interest, however beyond that - I hope that it will serve some purpose to game store owners, developers, painters and anyone else who might be interested in miniatures and wargames.

With a few exceptions, most companies who deal with miniatures and wargames don't really have the resources to do much market research. They cast some minis and see if anyone buys them. They write some rules and hope that they sell. Quite often it ends up being a situation where the various companies follow suit with others in a genre that seems to be popular. You can see this in the rise in WWII alternative histories that are coming out now.

The downside to that business plan is that many companies don't last a year. They guess wrong in terms of scale or period and the investment in sculptures and castings never ends up paying off fast enough to cover the initial investment. Same happens with game stores and rules developers.

Anywho - for me...it is mostly just curiosity. If other people can use it to help their businesses succeed...so much the better. I just put the information out there for others to use as they can.
