More good minis painting so good! Barzam never disappoints

Half of my Rubric Marines are now finished.

I noticed after I took the pics, I forgot to finish cleaning up the gold lines on the backpacks. Whoops. I know the bolters look plain without the hieroglpys painted in, but they're really tiny and my brushes just aren't getting the details right. So, I think I'll just leave them unpainted. I may go back and undo them on the two with the glowing runes.

Now that I'm halfway through them, I'm stopping so I can work on some other stuff. For right now, I'll be working on a 15mm IFV, then some Tartaros Termie Death Guard, and then I'm going to attempt to work on some Stormcast. After that, I will likely get back to the Rubrics. I want to sneak in some metals here and there, too. I just got my Last Saga Kickstarter stuff (finally) yesterday. The casts look good and I can't wait to start painting some of them.

So how'd you do the gold on them?

Might be handy to know if I ever try tackling some. Especially as I start to replace the missing figures from Execution Force.

You ever decide on a Stormcast paint scheme?

These guys were painted following Warhammer TV's turorial. They were sprayed gold first, using Tamiya's gold spraypaint. Then washed using Reikland Fleshade. That was followed by a bright gold drybrushing and then filling in the blue sections. Again, I recommend not fully assembling them before painting.

As for Stormcast, I want to go with silver and blue. However, for simplicity's sake, I'm going to do the Storm of Sigmar guys in gold.

My Plast Craft Dropzone Commander building arrived today. I had to build it. I was really curious how well these 10mm buildings would scale against my 15mm figures. I have some N-Scale buildings that just didn't work out too well. But these ones seemed like they could work.

I got it built up fairly quickly and yeah, it looks like it will work out rather well with 15mm figures. Hopefully the others in the line would work out just as well.

As you can see, the building is quite tall compared to the figures. If one were inclined to build a downtown or business district table to fight in, these buildings would work very well. Outside of MDF kits, you don't often seem to get this kind of height in 15mm buildings.

I took some pics comparing various lines' 15mm figures against the doors to show how well they scale to the doors.

These are Critical Mass and Peter Pig, both of which I would say work almost perfectly.

A couple of Khurasan figures. I think the space suit might be a bit too bulky to get through the door, but otherwise, both figures look about right to me.

Then we've got Rebel Minis and Ion Age. Rebel's figures can vary pretty wildly in proportions depending on who sculpted them, but most of their stuff tends to be more "true" 15mm like this special forces guy. He looks like he would work pretty well wit that building, though some of my zombies might have difficulties getting through the doors. The Ion Age figure is just a smidge too big though. She doesn't look like she could fit through that door. Thankfully, the size difference isn't so huge that it would completely destroy any immersion a table of these buildings might create.

So, overall, I would definitely consider getting some more of these Dropzone buildings. What I need though is a proper mat/table to put them on.

It does look like it would work well at 15mm.

What are those other buildings? Papercraft?

Yeah. The tan buildings are papercraft from the Heavy Gear website. They're also 10mm, but some, like the ones pictured are workable in 15mm. They'll just be very small buildings. The orange dome off to the side is from Ion Age and is resin.

While waiting on some other stuff to dry, I painted up a couple of Mantic's Walking Dead zombies. Gotta say, these are actually pretty nice figures. If Mantic's early restic casting had been as good as it is on these, I don't think anybody would have complained about the material.

Sculpts and casts are really top notch on these figures. The humans look just as good, but I'm less inclined to paint them right now since they look so normal. Now, I thought Mars Attacks' figures were pretty nice quality, but I would say the Walking Dead figures are actually better. I'll probably work on another one tonight. Probably the cop zombie.

Not much to update with. Didn't get much painting done over the weekend, but I did pick up a whole bunch of stuff! So, despite adding several blisters of minis and a Konflikt '47 walker to my painting pile, all I managed to actually do was paint up a Death Guard Terminator.

Had a pretty good gaming day on Saturday though. Met up with Bobtheinquisitor and he, along with Highlord Tamburlaine and my cousin had a pretty raucous game of Gorechosen. Sadly, I died first, but my fans were sure to mess up the fight several times. We'd planned to get in a game of Frostgrave as well, but we just didn't have the time to do it. Hopefully we can meet up again to give it a go.

For those who have an active gaming group, I really recommend Gorechosen. It's a damn fun game.

I primed a whole bunch of figures today. I'm hoping I'm not biting off more than I can chew with them since there were ten. But, while they were drying, I got to work on that zombie cop from Walking Dead that I'd started back when I did the other two.

Highlord Tamburlaine and I have plans to attempt to play Frostgrave this weekend. So, I started looking into putting together a warband and I realized I needed some figures to stand in as thugs. Oddly enough, I don't really have any that are painted that I felt appropriately fit the profile. My plan is to use some of the Frostgrave Gnolls, but I'm afraid I may not have them done in time. Thankfully, I just so happen to also have some Cephalyx Drudges sitting on my work table! Problem solved. These guys should work great as thugs until I can get my hands on something that is thematically more Menoth. I went ahead and whipped two up tonight, giving me a total of three. Just one more to go and my warband will be complete. I still need to do some basing though.

So what're you going to use as a mage to go with your drudges?

A Cephalyx (if you have one)? Admech stuff like a Magos? Cawl?

I'm actually surprised you don't own any Wild West Exodus Enlightened. Their corpses strapped into weapon systems or with buzzsaws for hands. Seems like something up your alley. They even have monowheel cav guys with gun arms.

Hey, you never know where Heresy might pop up.

I've been slowly working on part of a Storm of Sigmar box this week, among everything else. I got the three Stormcast Liberators finished up tonight.

I'm happy enough with them. My preference is actually for silver and blue, but I figured I would use the gold spray can I had left over from the Rubrik Marines and it would make things faster. With these three done, I'll start working on some Frostgrave minis next. Actual Frostgrave minis that is, as opposed to minis for Frostgrave. Once I'm through with all of those guys, I think I may go back to working on sci-fi minis.

I also completed a couple of old minis today. I picked up a couple more of Ground Zero Games' old 25mm Stargrunt figures last month and I've been working on them off and on this week. I figured I'd try out a different faction this time and get a couple of the Japanese figures. I kind of like their regular troops, but man, their power armor is UGLY.

Here's the long Ashigaru corporate trooper I picked up.

I know his fatigues look brown in the pic, but they're a lot more red in person.

Here's their ugly ass, koala looking power armor.

I think this may just be the only picture of one of these on the internet. Sure, you can find pics of the old 15mm ones, but I've never seen any pics of the 25mm versions. So hey, those of you who actually follow my plog, you're seeing something exceedingly rare here. I think I got the version with the plasma rifle. I'm not sure anymore and there's no visual references to check. It doesn't look like an HMG though. Despite how godawful ugly this guy is, he's got a certain charm to him. I don't know why, but I would actually consider getting some more of these suits.

Yeah, the white head and body are giving me some panda vibes moreso than koala.

Since you painted a couple Stormcast, want to try Age of Sigmar? I have enough Bloodbound stuff actually painted to play with.

I get where you guys are coming from with the panda comparisons, but I see koala way more than panda.

I finished up my Mullo IFV from Ion Age tonight. I have hosue sitting duties once more, so there's going to be little to no hobby stuff going on for the next week. Goody. I get to do it at the end of April, too. I figured I'd finish up my Mullo before I go. The Mullo IFV is basically a sci-fi version of the US military's Bradley. I've painted mine up to go along with my GZG USMC Lunar Marines, hence the drybrushed scheme. The blues and reds were really just chosen to break it up a bit.

This one is armed with a pair of heavy laser cannons, so it would act as a decent backup for my marines. Here's a few extra shots.

The rear doesn't look so good, but that's pretty much all my fault. I'm not so good at filling/cleaning up air bubbles. I also tried using Vallejo's liquid putty for the first time here. The stuff is much better than GW's liquid Green Stuff (the putty actually is a liquid). While it works well, I'm just not so good at cleaning it up. Oh well. It doesn't look that bad in person, plus this thing isn't that huge anyway. Easy enough to dismiss it.

I got my first actual game of Frostgrave in tonight. I played against Highlord Tamburlaine. He and I played with both of us using full teams. I had
Wizard
Apprentice
4 Thugs
1 Thief
2 Crossbowmen
1 Knight
The hardest part of the game actually wound up being the list building. Once we actually started playing, the game wasn't too hard. There's a bit of record keeping, but not too much and nothing too crazy. Once we actually knew what we were doing, the game moved pretty quickly and had some good moments. Chief among them being when my Knight, down to 2 HP, charged Highlord Tamburlaine's Wizard and killed her in one blow. That, plus my own Wizard pulling a Leeory Jenkins and actually surviving were pretty awesome moments. It's not really normal for me to win these types of games, so I was pleased with the results. I even managed to level my Wizard up two ranks, got some treasure, and established a base of operations in a brewery. So yeah, really fun game. I'm going to continue my rather Menoth heavy warband, too.

Ugh, it feels like I've been away from my painting table for weeks. House Sitting really causes a backlog of painting. I manged to sneak back to my house a few times in the past week and slap some paint on one of the Savage Core Amazons that Warlord made. I was surprised at how rough the cast was in some areas. I'm pretty happy with how she turned out though. I even painted her eyes!

Nah, I just like the 25mm figures. They're hanging out on my desk at work. I do have a fairly good sized pile of GZG 15mm figures and vehicles though. I love the Moongrunt stuff they put out, but I haven't really had a chance to actually work on any of it. The AD Police guys I'm planning to use in Red Ops 5, but that only really needs four human figures.

Speaking of 15mm, I got my Griffin from Conflict Horizon finished today. I'm still not especially pleased with my skills at painting camo, but this turned out well enough.

I based his colors somewhat on a piece of artwork on the Conflict Horizon website which shows a Griffin in jungle camo patrolling through the woods. I liked it a lot, so I figured I'd give it a try. Next Griffin I get though, it is not getting a camo scheme.

For a 15mm mech, the Griffin is unfortunately a bit on the small size. Here you can see how it compares to a White Dragon marine and a Bandai Federation pilot.

Both figures are more on the "True" 15mm side of the scale, so they're thinner and smaller and yet they still look like they'd have a hard time squeezing into it. Maybe it's remote piloted?

Here's how it compares to the Hoplite, also from Conflict Horizon.

The Hoplite is quite a bit bigger and probably wouldn't have a problem fitting most 15mm figures inside of it.

I didn't just work on 15mm stuff though. I actually worked on a GW figure, if you can believe it! I painted another Death Guard Terminator. This time with Autocannon.

And last, but not least, I painted one of several Frostgrave figures tonight. This guy is the Cult Knight.

I really like the look of this guy and the Cult Templar. Since my Frostgrave warband is based primarily on Menoth figures from Warmachine, I thought he ought to match up with them. On the downside of things, I actually already have several figures that would work better as Knight class and are actually Menoth figures. I still like him though, so maybe I'll work him in anyway. As you can see, I actually tried doing some freehand on him. I attempted to paint a Menofex on his shield and cobblestones on his integral base. I think I pulled the Menofex off a bit better, though both look pretty rough to me.

My next plan of action is to paint up an old Choir of Menoth guy I've had sitting around, the Cult Templar figure, and probably another Amazon.

Made in us
Thermo-Optical Tuareg

California

Tonight, I painted the other half of that Frostgrave set, the Cult Templar.

I also finally got around to finishing that remaining Choir of Menoth member I had sitting around.

I bought the set from the consignment case at the FLGS. It was the older, now out of production smaller set and this particular guy was missing his left hand. For some reason, this one guy has a separate left hand while none of the others do. I managed to repair the issue using a Bones mummy arm, which I gotta say, matched up with the bandaged arms these guys have pretty well. Next time I play Frostgrave, I'll be using the Choir's singers as my Thug class fighters.

I've got some new WIPs to share.

I assembled my Trench Fighters from Anvil Industry. Yes, there's a guy with an axe bayonet on his shotgun.

I also wound up painting something I wasn't intending to work on yet, one of my Nexus aliens from the Icarus Project. So, yeah, last night I pretty much completed one of my Nexus Savages.

He just needs some basing and he's done.

I thought you knew I backed it. I only got the Nexus starter, some mod parts to give their actual troops helmets and an LMG, and the armored human merc they lroduced first. Painting the savage was pretty fun. I may be tempted to toss the other one on the painting table in the near future. I just wish they'd done one of the savages holding their pistols. Both are only holding knives.
