So after finishing the StormBlade conversion, I decided to finally start on Kage for my last chancers platoon. GW does not have a model for this figure so I had to get creative. He is always by Colonel Schaeffer's side and in the books, he's depicted as a bad ass tough guy that's mostly crazy. So I figured some catachan parts, with some custom made items and some Forgeworld pieces would work out. I'm happy with the way he looks, but I need a paint scheme. What do you guys think this guys should be painted like? Any idea would work since he does not have to fit my current desert scheme that the rest of my army is painted with. Let me know your thoughts.

(By the way, if you guys are wondering what the pack, mask and hose are, here goes. So the guys is described as being crazy. Well, he needs his meds, and they come in the form of a gas that he has to breath. Schaeffer can regulate how much of it Kage gets during battles. If they need him to storm a bunker single handed, then just turn down the gas and he goes freakin nuts like the zombies in 28 days. If Schaeffer needs him to guard him while sleeping, then turn it up and he's almost normal. Cool right?)

also for his skin colour make sure he looks a bit grimey, i alwasy got the impression kage wouldn't be the universe's most higenic man

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

Very characterful! The "guns in the air"pose is also made much more believable than usual by the model's forward lean.

One thing- the mold lines on the pistol- my eyes! Aieee!

I agree 100% about the mold lines. I had to wait till the glue dried since the arm and gun were to different parts. They will be removed very soon. Thanks for the posts so far.

I would say he's probably not the healthiest either with the gas and all. You could make him kinda pale and gaunt which would look good with the dirt from the previous suggestion.

I don't really know what kit the head came from, but it was a FW item for sure. I think maybe the breather head kit was the one I got it from. Its been in my bitz box for almost a year.

Honestly, I don't like the head.
They never did that to Kage, so you're taking a lot of license there.

IMO, if you're going to represent someone, you should represent him as close to the source material as possible.

That being said, I'd make him gritty & dirty looking. While he was definitely a militay man (and, IMO, hygenic is a part of that), he got in a LOT of nasty situations in the field. Most of that would have stayed on him.

I kinda agree with your point about source info, but it would make for a boring model. Since GW does not make him, I was free to get creative so I went for a bit off the wall. The breather system makes the guy what he is. Even if I see your point I had to make him stand out in my army. This was the best way. Thanks for the comment anyway.

Kage comes with the other Last Chancers in the boxed set. He's not necessarily sick, he's possessed.

However I do like your conversion alot better then GW's. You probibly will have a hard time finding the guy, but you arn't really missing much. He looked like a regular old IG officer, with wraps on him, kinda like the cover of the second book.

He was a boring model. DO what thou will, it is a better conversion, plus it has more, " Get out of my way or I'll kill you!" look to it.

Great job on it.

Well, you have to be happy with it. that is, by far, the most important thing.
If you've hit THAT standard, then you're golden.

Tell you what... if you want the more feral look for him, from when he was in the prisons & going crazy, you could use a head from the WH Empire Flagellants box. there's one that has lond hair & a long beard. it resembles one of the heads from the Chaos Marauder (?) box.

It would stand out. That's for sure.

Either way... if you like it, then "Good on ya," mate! You're set.

nice model man. want a tip for the scars though man? they look a bit like tattoos they're so dark right now...

Mix up some "lower lip" color (skin tone of whatever you used about 60/40 with blood red) and paint it on like you hae now but leave off the "stitch" marks, then go into the line with a very fine black line (if you're steady you can put the stitches back now) I promise it looks very convincing.

AFAIK GW never made a Kage special character. The original Last Chancers box set included:

Col. Schaefer
Hero
Scope
Demolition Man
Animal
Warrior Woman
Brains
Shiv
Grease Monkey
Ox
Rocket Girl
Fingers

Now, I've never actually read any of the Last Chancers books (refuse to read Gav's stuff ), but unless one of these are supposed to have been Kage, I don't think GW's produced a Kage mini. Because of this and the lack of pix online of Kage, I've often wondered how I would model him.

While I don't know if I agree with your fluff about the respirator, I like it on the model nonetheless. I really like how you've modeled him, particularly the resp. head, although I agree with Kil Kil Kil that the scars look a big much.

These pics really came out terrible. I will retake some tonight that really give a better impression of the true colors. The red in the pics looks black but I'll update them later today to give you guys a better idea.

Here is a small tip to anyone looking to add Last Chancers to their army. The best thing about chancers is that you can make them into one man recking crews. What I mean by that is that if you make them specialists they can each take plasma guns, melta guns, flamers or any other special weapon. You pay for the points just like any upgrade in army builder, but think of the fire power.

I run Schaeffer, Kage, 4 guardsman with lasguns, as the command. Then I run 20 last chancers with meltas and plasmas. They freaking run around killing eveything from Tanks to Termies. They are also a BS 4 so they almost always hit and you can add armour so they have a 4+ save. They totally rock, and they can start anywhere on the board as long as their broken up into 5 squads. They don't even have to be even squads. You can have a 7 man melta team hunt tanks, You can have a 4 man team hunt Termies. You can do 10 snipers and put them on a hill top and let them just clip away. They are by far the best part about IG. Also, I've heard that you can run some kinda of system where they are all shycers. Its crazy how much can be done with a 20 man squade of these guys. I'll get the new pics of my squad and Kage in a few hours.

There's a couple nice models in the box, but most of the minis aren't that great. I'd say that some of them would look really cool in specific armies (like Demo Man in a Valhallan or Vostroyan army, Rocket Girl in a Catachan army, or Hero in a Mordian army) and some are generally useful (Scope is a good addition to any IG sniper unit and Ox makes an easy Try Again Bragg conversion), but really, what are you going to use Grease Monkey or Shiv for? And Animal's just an ugly model.

I don't know - for me, if I were to get the box, I'd use a few of the models and the rest would sit in my bitz box.

If I can offer you a bit of advise, don't buy the box. They really suck, and they are not set up the right way. Like some of the posts say, what would you do with an indian guy with a knife. Really stupid when it comes to gaming the unit. The way I built my guys was by putting together figures from all types of armys. You'll see in my pictures tonight, that I have some older IG guardsman, some new, some sisters with meltas, some Talarens, and even some Necromonda models that just looked cool. That is the best part about Chancers. You can build them any way you like with whatever wheapons you need and they play as chancers. An amazing addition to any IG army. By the way, I have that box set you are talking about, so if you really must have it, just IM me and I'll sell it to you a half the price.

Can you link to an image of this? I have no clue what model you're talking about. The old Last Chance models (minus Col. Schaefer) can be seen here:

http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.us?do=List_Models&code=301361&orignav=301117&GameNav=301115

Is one of those the one you're talking about?

I got to looking at the Cadian Lieutenants and there's a couple of those that I imagine would work for Kage. I've actually been contemplating a Col. Schaefer conversion using the Ltd. Ed. Witch Hunter Inquisitor (http://www.solegends.com/citle/citle2000/prcodes/pr18witchhunter.htm) as a base, but giving him a face with a cigar, having him carrying a power sword, and painting him up with a uniform instead of witch hunter clothes. I'd make him look more like a old-style Cavalry Col with the hat and long coat, but with the sweet plasma pistol carried by that mini.

So here are my version of LAST CHANCERS. Like I was saying, I just went out and got the guys I wanted from all types of model lines. They are chancers, so it does not matter if they look the same or come from the same collection. I have new, old, 40k, and Necro models that all go well together. I also gave them all serial numbers instead of names. Just like real inmates, you are known by your number more then your name ones you are in prison. If anyone is wondering, the Jason Masked dude is not a normal model. He's normally a catachan special weapons guy with some green stuff on his face. Came out OK I think.

All the character that you put into the army through model choice etc. is nicely contrasted by the bases with the anonymous numbers and stripes. Nice start- this would be a blast to play against.

I see that you weren't shy about taking advantage of that BS4 hahaha That must be some deadly (albeit expensive) fire support! My only fear would be a lot of casualties from plasmaguns overheating. But then agian, more than a dozen plasmagun shots in one turn from one squad might be worth it! Woe be to the person who underestimates that! hahaha

I love how the Last Chancers give so much freedom to make your own personalized special characters. The only things I don't like are the WS3 Characteristic and the fact that you can't give them doctrines. Wouldn't that be cool? I think it would give them way more personality if they could be jungle fighters, or sharpshooters, or addicted to narcotics (like 'slaught, kalma, or obscura). It would be expensive, but the Chancers are about being diverse fighters with unique abilities and personalities, in my opinion.

I like how your models are still pretty individualized, even though they are all carrying pretty much the same weapon (diverent versions of plasmaguns helps them maintain a certain amount of individuality in that aspect). My vavorite is the guy with the hockey mask. I focused on giving mine more personality with a variety of weapons. They may have more character, but they are not nearly as tactically effective as yours (especially since I don't have a single model that takes advantage of the BS4 characteristic). But mine were meant to be more like my own personal 'showcase' type squad than one I use in my army. I'm sure you'll plan on using these in battle

I also like the numbers on their bases. It gives that 'nobody cares what you're name is you traitorous scum. You are just a number now' kind of feel, which I think is great for the last chancers!

Oh, and also, where is the big guy himself? You know who I'm talkin about

The big guy with his shirt off is a great necromunda fig. I loved how cool he looked so I added him, and gave him a plasma gun with some green stuff. The link is below, but make sure you check out all the necro figs, cause you'll find a bunch of great chancers there.
