Using WWII para heads from West Wind with Games Workshop Space Marine Scouts and Cadian Imperial Guardsmen the above is the first of my heavy weapon teams for my Carapace Armoured Imperial Guardsmen.

I've made similar models before using Metal Space Marine Scouts and OOP Imperial Guard Storm trooper heads, these models new models were considerably easier to make.

Top: Heavy bolter team (plastic scouts)
Bottom: Hardened veterans command squad (metal scouts)

I cant load the close up of the first pic but from what i can see and the second pic those are really cool! Do you plan on making a full army with that style?

Link seems a little dodgy, try refressing the page a few times. If I can fix it I will.

I already have an army of these guys, two full Veteran squads, a Command HQ and a veteran platoon command squad (house rules). With my troops choices filled by Grenadiers I have a workable 1,500+ point force. The guys in the pic are a Heavy bolter team for a Fire support squad that I'm adding to the army I may also make a Missile Launcher equipped Anti-tank squad and a Sniper equipped Assault weapon squad, again using plastic SM Scouts and West Wind heads.

Nice, like i said i love it, it all fits together very well and has a really unique flavor to them. Makes the guardsmen have a more hardened look with more personality which is super important IMO. Any changes/conversions to your vehicles should you take some?

cool conversions.
Maybe try and shorten the lasguns so they look more elite.

Thanks for the praise guys. I quite like the Cadian lasgun so I'll probably keep it as is, I may attempt to give some of them folding stocks though.

Is that a conversion on the HB? I'm not a fan of black and bright red, but thats a personal preference and overall nice job. How much are the heads?

Those -rock-! I've actually been thinking about how to build a Carapace IG army with plastic scouts - but those Scout heads! YIPES! They look like Human/Ork hybrids! Those West Wind heads look really great!

Thanks again guys. The heads are £3.00 for 20 with lots of WWII themes available. It's just the plastic Scout Heavy bolter as far as I know, if it looks different to yours then I may have built mine wrong. I added the shoulder pad to the upper arm, is that what you meant? These were built from bits exchanged with a friend that were partially pre-built, so I'm not sure what actually comes on the sprues.

The red deliberately stands out against the black and camouflage paint scheme, besides they're space Paras; red berets is part of the theme.

The standard scout heads are quite awful, thankfully I have no need for them.

When they do plastic scout bikes I may make some rough riders.

Nicely done. The Hardened vets STILL remind me of Warzone Blood Berets, but that's not a bad thing.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Thanks for sharing!

Those westwind heads are available from www.warweb.com, I've been thinking of them for my own US themed marine army and now they're a lot more tempting.

Very easy, I had to drill a hole down through the Scout 'neck' to accomodate the Westwind head. This makes them very secure, no need to pin them.

* Bump *

Progress report, I've finished building and painting two of them I just need to pick up another SM Scout heavy bolter model to finish the squad.

They look awesome!!
Do the scout arms fit the lasguns well? Or are you using Imperial Guard arms?

Thanks guys. They're Scout arms with Cadian hands. You could probably get them to fit perfectly with a bit of putty. I was lazy so the wrists don't quite match on the left hand, you'd have to turn the model upside down to notice the fault.
