Some time ago, I acquired a large amount of metal terminators for one purpose or another. Okay, the purpose was a Deathwing army. When the new models came out, I was a bit upset. What was going to happen to the forty metal ones I already had? I refused to replace them at $10/model! In fact, I was so upset that I refused to buy the new models at all.
Then I thought about it a bit. I had 9 of the Grey Knight Terminators, which I loved. The "hunched bulldog" look of Terminators never seemed right to me. Since I had all these models, I figured I had one or two that I could cut up and play around with, right? Using the GK Terminators as a guide, I hacked the terminators at the knee, waist, hip, neck, head, and shoulders. After a lot of pinning, even more puttying, and some tender loving care, these four were the end result. They were really intended as a "proof of concept" that the metal ones could be modified to be the new proper terminator size, but I've really gotten fond of the look. I guess the remainder of them should start getting worried!

The Deathwing squad.

The Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield assault option.

The rear of the squad. From here, you can see that the hunched backs are gone, the torsos are longer, and the GK sergeant comes close to fitting in.

The Sergeant. The intricate text on his armour has been puttied/smoothed over, and I filed down one of the FW shoulder pads to give him Terminator Honors on his left shoulder.

Shot of the Sgt from the right shoulder. You can see the DA iconography on him (chest and faceplate) a bit better from here.

I picked up some Forgeworld shoulder pads to go with the squad, and was extremely glad I did. They allowed me to take the forearms from these metal lighting claws and ignore the upper arms, get the proportions right, and then just fill the gap between shoulder and elbow in such a way that the shoulder pads covered most of the work. Also, they look cool!

Assault Cannon FTW! Because if you put a purity seal on it, it won't jam...

Oh, and he's got a chainfist, too! Again, the shoulder pads allowed me to use the old metal arms from the elbows down, and sculpt (roughly) for the upper arms without letting too much of it be visible.

"Snikt!" Ugly paint on this one. Again, I was going for proof-of-concept, not Golden Daemon.

Okay, maybe it's not so ugly, it's just the angle. Naah, it's both.

The arms on this guy are off the new sprue, courtesy of battle wagon bitz. I may end up using the plastic thunder hammer/storm shields, because Neil has them on there fairly cheaply, and I don't have a lot of them sitting around.

Shot from above. This angle (hopefully) really drives home how flat these guys are on top. No Brother Quasimodo required for these suits of tactical dreadnought armour!

Another from above. He looks like he's hunching over, but he's leaning very far forward. Swinging Thunder Hammers moves you around, y'know?

From the rear. You get to see the ugly cut seam in the waist, and the green stuff that was required to elongate the legs. I didn't want to do the GK oval underneath their air vents, but I think I might have to, just to fill space. Again, the top of the back is flat, not arched.

If there's enough demand, I'll try to do a tutorial/walkthrough of the next batch I hack up.

Those are great minis. I may have to try that with my old termies. The thunderhammer guy look awesome. AS do all the others. I can't wait to see all 40 when you've finished them.
