What is the most inspiring saying to you and why - i want to see what motivates you!

in my case it is

"It is not the great who are strong, but the strong who are great"

This single saying has stuck with me since i first heard it in year 3 at school - i suffer from dyspraxia AND dyslexia as such my handwritting was awful as was spealing, ballence e.c.t. but then one of the teacher in histroy said this when we was doing some sort of war topic, and something clicked

it lead me to belive i could do soemthing, you make you self great in other words, and as a result of this one off, off hand saying i managed to get 3 A* 7 A and 5 B at the end of my GCSE result and am currently in 6th fourm doing maths physics and ict, all this after hearing this one saying and going from bottem of my entire school year to being on of the top, and one that is actully quite respected because of it! But my greatist achivment is probly being in the bottem set english group and still getting a B i was wuite stunned, adn i do belive i owe it to this completly random moment

Your turn

Remember to say why! - and yes you can have more than one as long as you explain why in turn

For me it was a line in an Amy Grant song.

"I will stand for the truth I've seen, so that truth is seen in me."

Honesty and integrity are EVERYTHING to me. I'm the one that has to look the man in the mirror in the eye every morning. That, and my son needs a good demonstration of what it REALLY means to be a man.

Mine goes something like this:

I cannot promise that things will get better with change, but things have to change, for them to become good.
-Albert Schweitzer

I like it because it really made me think about things and realize the truth of this quote.

Meaningful and amusing, and any time I doubt it, something will happen to remind me that it speaks the truth.

LOL einstien did say some weird stuff he once said

"I know not what wepons WWIII will be fought, but WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones"

Personally don't see that happerning, but i think he emtn WWIII would be a nucler war / all destroying and that humanity would have to start again, because nothing would be left.

Oh yes mark twain one of the greats - unless im very much mistaken one of his most honist and relevent quotes was

"The most danogrus thing to us isnt what we don't know, it what we know that just ain't so"

I cannot explain how relevent i find that!

I like this quote of Mark Twain's:

The absence of Jane Austin's books alone, would a quite good library out of a library that hadn't a book in it.

It's not relevant, but I like it anyways.

So many to chose from…

“Best brock [block] is no be there”
Mr. Miyagi

I have no idea how often I’ve applied that little gem of wisdom. Point of note, I don’t do martial arts or engage in any sort of physically violent activities that would require dodging but it can be applied to all sort of other things. In 40k it has taught me to stay out of range of my opponent’s weapons or just out of line of sight. If I do that, I don’t need armor or toughness to help me (good thing to because the eldar don’t have either).

“There is no limit to the human spirit…but sometimes I wish there was”
Scuddman

Ever looked at something somewhere and thought “someone has too much free time on their hands”? I know I have. I’ve also seen some horrible stuff that people have done with said free time and really wished they would have just sat around playing video games instead.

“Never underestimate the power of stupidity”
“If you make something idiot proof, they’ll make a better idiot”

People are dumb and if you try to make it so that people can’t possibly screw it up, someone will still manage to do it.

“Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity”

This one has saved me on a number of occasions. When someone does something to wrong you, think about it for a second. Do they really have a reason to mess with you or did they just screw up / do something dumb. Most of the time it’s the latter. There isn’t any sense in picking a fight over a mistake.

I always thought that was a pretty lame quote from some Christian who never read any of his works but thought they were clever yet didn't realize at the same time the hubris, even in humor, to try and speak for god.

"Trial by trying"
KMFDM

I'm sure I can think of more quotes that I carry with me everyday, but this is the latest motivator (in a line of shouted rabblerouser phrases from KMFDM) that is pushing me along of late. You will get nowhere without going, and achieve nothing without attempting in the first place.

Phoenix wrote:“Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity”

I've tried to explain this to my fiancee every time she gets torqued off at stupid people f-ing up and making her life harder. They aren't doing it on purpose, this isn't some scheme that the universe has going to just bash on her (which is a pretty ego-centric view of things), people are just freakin' stupid and make mistakes. It's what we do, except some do it less than others.

Actually Ive read a bit of Nietzsche and I thought it was funny. I imagine that Nietzsche was enough of a smartass to think it was funny too.

A quote that meant and still means a lot to me is from Breathe, by Pink Floyd.

"For long you live and high you fly, and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry, and all you touch and all you see, is all your life will ever be."

It's easy to realize who you are if you follow that criteria. For some reason I find it comforting.
