I've been looking at the heads on Pig Iron Miniatures for World War One-ing Cadians. Are there any other 40k-scale metal or plastic heads I should consider? Has anyone had experience with Pig Iron heads? Are they of a similar detail level as the Cadian originals?

Oh my god are those cool. Since the Kolony Rebels don't have helmets (an evolutionarily non-successful adaptation in trench warfare) I was going to "settle" for the Kolony Militia heads but I was concerned they weren't WW I-ish enough.

I'm still going with the Kolony Militia heads. But I'm not "settling" for them.

They were excellent work for sure. The helmets/gasmasks are a brilliant look.

BTW, Did you actually READ the Usernames on said page???

What's up with that-and those freaky avatars???? Or the Sigs???!?

Great minis, though I was thrilled to open that at work :-P
I definitely will take my hat off to the brave fellows who first thought "I bet we could sell seperate heads that can be used with various mini lines". A brilliant idea which really fills a niche. I sincerely hope they make a fortune.

While we're on the subject, has anyone tried West Wind SOTHR heads on Pig Iron Bodies? I'm curious whether the British heads in particular would look good on the Kolony militia...

Well because of this thread I must now convert my entire IG army with pig iron heads. Thank you so much for bringing this up because I feel like my army will be more complete now.

I've been toying with the idea of starting a guard army after digging out an old armourcast baneblade out of my piles of unpainted figs, bitz, etc. After seeing these heads, I'm more convinced I might.

I hate to semi-necro the thread but these models would be unplayable at a GW facility/activity because they have non-GW parts, right? I ask out of interest not concern. I don't do tournaments or hang out at the GW store.

No, custom, kit-bashed and scratch built models of good quality that are painted are generally allowed as far as I have seen.

As always, check with your Tournament Organizer to see
as to the validity of your army. If it's just a head swap I
can't see them denying you a spot. As for the GW facility
and general play, I'd ask the GW manager of the store.

Once you have that, no one can try to disqualify you for
breaking a rule since you've gotten a go-ahead from the
people in charge.

And you can always play on the likely ignorance of any sticklers by telling them that you cast the heads yourself. Anyone that is a big enough toolbox to object to such a minor parts-swap deserves to have the wool pulled over their eyes. Fortunately, Pigiron and West Wind aren't well known to most GW-only types either.

I believe the old standard for tournament legal minis is 75-80% GW product? Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure that's it. Which means that if your IG have non-GW heads they would still be fine as long as the rest of the guy is a Cadian/Catachan/etc.

USGT rules

Conversions, WYSIWYG, and “Counts As”
Non-Citadel miniatures are not allowed in the Grand Tournament and will be removed in the same way as unpainted miniatures.

Conversions must begin as Citadel miniatures and contain a majority of Citadel components. All other models will be removed from the table. They must be of the appropriate type for the troops they represent and comply with the “Counts As” rule below.

ForgeWorld miniatures may be used to represent models or options from the Codexes and Army Books allowed. This means you could use a ForgeWorld Demolisher turret or Death Korps of Krieg troopers in your Imperial Guard army but would not be allowed to use Heavy Mortars or Centaurs.

A head is not the majority, so yay.

Just yesterday I got the brilliant Idea of converting New Cadian helmets to the Classic Cadian helmets(as I can't stand the new helmets). It's a painstaking conversion as you have to cut off the bottom part of the new plastic helmet then use Green stuff to add on the rim of the classic helmet....but I am really happy with the results.

Even with zoom, that's a bit hard to see. Closer pic please?

And aesthetics are worth working for, if you're going to the trouble of painting all the little buggers anyways.

Last necro, I promise. How about Ogryn heads? How hard would green stuffing a helmet and gas mask combo be?

I guess I could get masks and helmets off of 35 or 40mm figures too. Anyone seen it done?

Heh. My thoughts exactly on both accounts.

But I'd never heard of Pig Iron before, and now I really REALLY want to get my hands on some of their models!!
