Just was wondering what the current "tournament" level armies and builds are popular right now. I am more specifically looking for possible Dwarven, Chaos, Empire, VC or Tomb Kings builds but I'd love to know what people are using and how effective that they are even outside of these armies. Give me everything from ultra beardy to super balanced (my preferred style)
Thanks Dakka

In general there is no cookie cutter Chaos Army at all I have yet to see 2 non-daemonlegion lists that look the same.
With that said the most popular of what you listed would be Tomb Kings w/ the following
Litch High Pries w/ Cloak and Jar
Tomb Prince with what ever
Litch Priest 2 scrolls
Litch Pries 1 scroll and some bound item.
2x25 Skeleton Units w/ LA HW + S
2x10 Archer units (or 1x20 in some cases)
2x6 Light Cav (I have seen 2x8 a few times)
1x25 Tomb Guard
1x4 Ushabti
2 Tomb Scorpions
1 to 2 Catapults.
For VC since the new book is out look for alot of summoning hoards rather than elite knight armies.
For Dwarfs its usually
Runelord on Anvil Or Dwarf Lord with the Oath Stone
Rune priest w/ 3 spell breaker runes
Thane with some runes
Thane with some more runes
2x Flaming Bolt Throwers (1 with the 2+ hit thing)
1 Flaming Cannon that does D6 Wounds
1 Organ Gun
3x25 Warriors with Heavy Armor HW and Shield
1x25 Iron Breakers
2x12 Thunders or X-bow men
Every thing else would be a filler
For Empire its usually a lot of infantry backed with Cannons
Detachments are very common.

Wouldn't the Ultimate Empire Cheese List be popemobile, 1-2 stanks, 4 cannons, some scroll caddies, some knights, then xbows?
Hard chaos lists seem to be based in speedy units, very few blocks if any. MoK for the frenzied chosen knights of madness or MoS for a magic heavy, very fast army. 5/5 herd for doing stuff, furies for all the flying goodness, fiends for zipping in and 360 coverage, etc, etc. Chariots in pairs as usual, MoS for not giving a crap.

I agree with what's been said so far but I am looking at 2000pts only, most of these builds are 2250 or more

The more hardcore tourneybuilds I've noticed now that 7th ed is up and running. I'll assume there's little to no comp/restrictions involved:
Bretts: Well, these guys have the flying circus of multiple pegasus knight units for the win. 3 or 4 units of Pegs, a flying hero or 2 and fill the rest with lances and you have quite an army there.
Chaos: For mortals, a dragon with golden eye is the winner here. Add quality support such as flying demons, chariots, maybe even hellcannon, and that's pretty annoying list
to face. The SoC made some pretty nasty stuff possible due to the demonic list there, but you'll see that changing as the new daemonbook will be out in a couple months. Beast of chaos aren't really ott (especially due to the 7th ed ranking nerf for the herds), unless they'll start wielding 6+ chariots.
Dwarfs: Anvil gunlines with miner support are the most common sight. At this side of the pond, Thorek is usually nerfed to having only 1 reroll in a game, so he's sorta out of the game that way.
Empire: Generally almost every tourney empire army will run popemobile (lector on altar), a steam tank and at least a pair of great cannons. The rest varies a lot, altough the nastiest lists will have all the hard stuff such as 2nd tank, 4 cannons and knights. Depending if a tournament allows special characters, one could replace pope with Karl on a dragon. I have no idea if that's a good idea, though.
High Elves: The new Helf book hasn't been around too much so the standard build is a bit in the air still, altough on paper at least the most dangerous variants seem to be fast stuff with a lord on a star dragon, or magic/shooting heavy with Teclis in particular.
Dark Elves: Let's wait for the new book, eh? The tourney darkelves I've seen often contain a hitty guy on a dragon, though.
Lizardmen: It's usually either 2nd Gen slann for magic dominance or hitty (jaguar) oldblood for combat beating. These list won't usually take more than one unit of saurus, or not even that and spend instead on skinks, salamanders, kroxigors, terradons and on some unit who has the huanchi banner.
O&G: There seems to be a lot of choices here at least regarding what troops to take. Pretty much every list contains at least 4 chukkas, though, as they are quite a bargain. Nasty command sections include either a wyvern warboss or lots of wizards for magic domination.
OK: MSU Ogres with Tyrant and max magic.
Skaven: Cheap fodder, Magic and shooting is the key, altough the ratty stuff is certainly unreliable. Grey seer, warlocks with gadgets, lots of jezzails, ratlings and 2xwpl are all things that'll find their way to tourney builds very often.
TK: Magic/character heavy FTW here. You'll often see either defensive list with dual catapults and several blocks of infantry or a speedy list with lots of chariots. TK should never leave the house with at least 3 tunnelers at least (2 scorps & a couple tomb swarms), as they are quite good.
VC: The new book hasn't been around too long, but I'll have to say that magic heavy (which is kinda build in as you often take at least 3 vampires) with at least some black knights will be the backbone (lol, pun) of many a new vc army.
Wood Elves: A pair of treemen (one of which may be the ancient with netlings) seems to be pretty annoying with bsb hanging around. Welfs have lot of (semi)cheap "fodder" to fill the rest of the list. A possibility for taking a dragon with the 3+ ward doesn't sound too shabby either.

Thanks for the responses, went with a Empire Stank surrounded by lots of knights and a couple of war machines. Tourny went well, went 2-0-1 with two massacres, draw came against a Teclis led HE army with a couple of RBT and a Dragon mage (made some stupid errors and omissions in the game or I would have won that one too) and came out best overall. Thanks again for your imputs

Grimgor with his buddies is supposed to be intensely unfriendly as well, though been a while since I heard him hitting the table in a tourny. And nice job on the placement Papa, props on just 1 stank + buddies - Salvage

Problem with the good ol' Grimgor is that he has m4. Even with the waagh/animosity/magic tricks he (and he's bodyguard) is awfully easy to avoid and/or divert.
