the reason I ask is an old friend gave me a load of old minis he came across when moving...

I got:

2-3000 pts of Salamader marines
loadsa metal chaos dwarfs - 12 warriors, 10 blunderbuss, characters, lammasu, taurus, earthpounder, 3 bull centaurs
36 mixed harlequins
about a dozen RT era eldar
4 realm of chaos champions
4 minotaurs
2 RT era greater daemons

woot! theres enought for a full Harlie force and the start of a chaos dwarf army.

he also fished out a FW eldar Phoenix but wouldnt part with it

Can any Dakkas beat that?

Friend of my little brother went nuts with warhammer for 2 years of high school, amassed a Cadian army, an Empy's Kids army (with now-invalidated FW noise dread) and a Skaven army. Then senior year he got into pot and kinda disappeared, only to show up the last day of HS to collect ... the Slaanesh marines

My brother shrugged and kept the Cadians and I got:

- 2 ratling guns
- 2 jezzails
- 2 plastic rat ogres
- warp lightning gun
- 4 plague censors

My game group used to play 40K, BFG & Epic before settling down into just 40K.
I ONLY played 40K.

In an effort to get me to play Epic, one of my buddies offered to buy me a SM Epic force. Probably would've been about 15K points.
I turned him down because I knew I'd never play & it would be a waste of his money.

Turns out I was right.

I had a friend back about 6 years ago who was getting out of the hobby and he offloaded his entire collection on me, including a beautifully painted Saim Hann army, a partially painted IG army, a Wood Elf army, and loads of individual minis. I can't remember the extent of what he sent, but he had to send it in three separate installments.

I walked into a store once and got to talking to a guy. He handed me 30 2nd ed Genestealers, 2 2nd ed lictors, and 1 2nd ed hive tyrant.

I picked up an armorcast baneblade/shadowsword for $25 at a bits trade at my FLGS though.

I fished out a load of guardian figures to try and sort out a paint scheme, I just cannot paint eldar! has anyone any good schemes or tips? doesnt have to be actual craftworlds, just as long as they look good.

I got five ork boys from my OCD collector friend. He's one of those people that collects thousands of dollars of stuff he never does anything with and will absolutely not part with any of it. So just five ork boys mean the world to me because he trusts me that much to let go of something.

Seriously, please don't kitbash the wrong bitz onto that Pheonix. I'm sure there are dakkaites who would give you them, or trade them for some of your free minis. Just check out the trade forum.

And my best score- free Brettonian army, plus an 8"x10" box full of random non-GW minis perfect for D&D.

I've put a post looking for canopies on here and on warseer. no luck yet.

As I remember you get 2 canopies with every falcon or variant, I may have to buy a one and get thm that way... bloody hell!

When I first got in the game, I ordered a bunch of Eldar from the FLGS. I gave them my credit card, no problem. Picked the stuff up, and waited for the bill. I'm still waiting--he never charged me for about $75 worth of stuff (and yes, I did remind him). He retired and closed the shop (an old Hobbytown in Hyannis) shortly thereafter, so he may just not have been paying much attention at that point.

More recently, I ended up with a PILE of old RT-2nd ed. era orks--including an old rocker, the old dread, boar boyz, freebooterz, grotz, and mega-armored boyz. They'll get used for something OTHER than 40k, however.

I've also given lots of stuff away. I gave away an entire 4th-5th ed. Dark Elf army (probably ~1500 points for those editions), About ~750 of Sisters, some tau (probably 500 points) ~1000 points of marines, and probably ~3000 points of Eldar over the years to various people. Example: when the new 'dex came out, a friend's son's friend wanted to get into the game, so I gave him 1000 points of eldar to get him started. It wasn't the best 1000 points ever (I think it was a farseer, two guardian squads with Heavies and warlocks, some scorps with an exarch, maybe some banshees(?), and a war walker), but enough to get an 11 year old started without blowing his parents' money. Also, it was all 2nd ed. stuff, so his friends can ooh and ahh over the antique army.

When getting back into the game after nearly a decaade out, a friend gave me
4 untouched boxes of RT era plastic space marines. (80 marines)

2 boxes of RT era rhinos (6 rhinos)

and oodles of rt era ork plastics.

1 1st ed space hulk game with all expansions.

I later sold the marines for $350, and they guy who bought them was ever so grateful to get them.

The only free GW thing I've ever got was three Land Speeder missile launcher sprues from Ozymandias. Hardly a patch on the stuff on this thread, but considering I live in Singapore and he gave them to me free of charge, shipping and all, and him not knowing me from Adam, I think that's pretty damn generous! Now I just need to get around to turning them into Exorcists.

Only free stuff I've gotten is various little bitz for conversion projects I've managed to mooch. Zombie legs so I could get cloth wrapped feet for my John Mclean model, a couple of Meltaguns for my chosen squad, will hopefully be getting a couple of High Elf shields in the near future to amke a shield for my Protoman, things like that.
